Don't worry, I've got a few surprises up my sleeve for this match.
Billy Cardone revealed! :D

This concerns me (lol)

With the tighter pockets i like Alex but the way Shane has been playing i think it could be a coin toss. But if Alex gets out to a good lead it could be tough for Shane to claw back

I voted for Shane but I do think this could go either way. I have a hard time believing that these pockets aren't going to make a difference in the long run. I think they will slow Shane's break down a bit and that is all it takes to make this an even match.

The other 2 variables are Alex's frame of mind and fatigue. I think both players will be using up energy because of the increased focus it will take to pocket otherwise routine shots. In other words, the pockets may not take their toll early on but as the players tire out it could make pocketing balls more difficult.

Just my opinion. I'm not an expert on anything but that.

who to pick

This is definitely a tough call to make.
I have a buddy that has really tight (Dominguez tight!) pockets but they are so true that as long as you hit the pocket cleanly the ball will go in. It didn't take long for an average smuck like me to get adjusted to them. I'm assuming that the mechanics on this table will be spectacular so it probably won't be that big of an issue for these two monsters.

With that said.. I'll go with Team USA and vote for SVB!!

---snip---

Side-by-side they look like pretty much the same set up width-wise; however, the distance from the balls to the hole is farther on the Diamond! Both are practically as tight as a frog's rear end .. and that's water tight.

Got to go with SVB on this one. Playing world wide events this last year has brought him up to another level of confidence and play. If the rolls go even he'll win.

if Alex will concentrate and take this serious i think it is going to be tough to call whose going to win.But if Alex will not control himself from drinking...it is going to be a landslide win for Shane.I hope Dennis Orcollo and Shane will also play the same race on TAR

That would be sweet. I'm liking this new TAR Studio -- it's a pocket billiard "stimulus package" done the right way!

Recent on-line performances + Shane seems to be improving as time goes on.
SVB wins....

I think Alex is favored because of the pockets.. shane is all about sheer firepower and this is going to be more of a touch game here.

Way to stir up the action for future matches! :p

Eric

Hi Eric,

I really would like to see Orcullo in one of these. I realize he's not as famous or known as Shane or Alex here in the US, but the guy is a hard core gambler and could be the best 10 ball player in the world. He certainly has shown superiority in 10 Ball tournament play.

I'm kind of surprised he hasn't been in a TAR match yet. Maybe he can be booked next spring when the tourney's are in Las Vegas. This year the tournaments in the Phillipines and Las Vegas were too close together.

I will say that 10 Ball does separate the really top talent like Alex, Shane, and Orcullo from the pack, moreso than 9 ball.

Chris

Ps. The poll goes exactly like the betting line - Shane being a considerable favorite. The money odds and games on the wire betting favor Shane.

Chris,

Just riding ya a lil, hahaha.

I'll throw this out there for conversation; didn't Orcullo and Yang match up some 10 ball, a couple of times, for the title of "best money player in Asia"? I seem to remember watching a stream of a race to 50 (which Yang won convincingly), then a rematch, 10 ball, race to 60, which Yang won again.

I'll throw Yang in there as a candidate for "the best 10 ball player in the world". What say ye?

Eric

I picked Alex, but only if the real Lion shows up. It will be great to watch though. My two favorite players playing right now.

Shoot,
I peeked at who voted how and I see the Billy Incardona voted TOO CLOSE TO CALL. That settles it for me. :D

Fatboys pockets would play WAY better then the other table. The angle is screwy on that green felted table and shots down the rail are going into the point too much. That is one of those tables that shots down the rail turn into a giant PITA. Glens pockets are tight but the angle he cut them at will make his table play WAY different then the other. That green felted table needs the pockets to be flared out more. The side by side pics show how it should be done (RKC), and how not to cut them (the other).

Who will win?

Public opinion has always and always will be a consideration by the odds makers prior to publishing a line on a sporting event, no different here. But how much of a consideration should be taken into account about public opinion prior to the line being posted for wagering? Plus there are other variables one must consider in regard to what exactly drives public opinion. For instance, past history, recent history, venue, country of origin, work ethics, mind set, financial status, conditions, experience, mental toughness, and many more considerations, not to mention who wants it more, and what's at stake?

I'm sure as we all mull over this upcoming event we THINK WE HAVE THE WINNER, but things don't always work out the way we think they should, at least not in my life time and that's to me what makes this match up all the more intriguing. But as we look over the list of variables to consider there are a few that really are more important than the others, too bad we don't really know which ones they are. Or do we?

See you in Las Vegas for what promises to be a very interesting and close match between arguably two of the greatest 10 ball players in the world today.

I also would like to thank TAR for choosing me to do the commentary along with my friend Jay Helfert, i'm sure it will be something special and one to remember.
