Okay well I will bet you that there is a less of a game difference in the 8 ball between the two then the nine ball. A friendly sweat of $100 sound good? :smile:

I agree 8 ball will be closer. Shane is a stronger 8 ball than 9 ball, but Corey is VERY good when he wants to be.
If Corey soft breaks RYO 9ball it could get VERY interesting!

Anything could happen -Corey could win 2-0. As a semi non sequitur. How many times you see a 1P player and a 9B player match up and play a set of each. The 1 Hole guy wins the 9 Ball and the 9B Player wins the 1 Hole. Happens almost as often as it dont.

10 ball is the only game where Shane would be stealing.... They are both going to have to pack a good lunch all three days, IMO. If Cory is playing right this may be the best TAR match ever. Epic one you've put together here JCobbler!!!

I hope it's take what you make. They have done it the other way in the past though.
Here's what I suggest if they decide to play open after the break.
Either run your choice in rotation, or play last pocket on the 8.
With just regular open after the break, it'll be a run-out fest (at least on Shane's breaks). I, and I'm sure a few others, would prefer to see a little bit of strategy. Having to run out in rotation or playing last pocket will do a good job of making sure that happens.

I can understand the traditional rack for 8-ball & 1 Pocket but 9-Ball? Racking their own? That could get interesting with what these guys know about rack manipulation.

Here we go. A rematch of TAR #1 with an all around format. Corey Deuel taking on Shane VanBoening November 1-3, 2013. 8 Ball. 9 Ball, and 1 Pocket. Available live on streaming PPV.
All games are rack your own with a traditional rack played on the TAR Diamond 4.5 x 9 table. The schedule is as follows:
November 1: 8 Ball Race to 30
November 2: 9 Ball Race to 30
November 3: 1 Pocket Race to 8
Start time is 5PM Pacific each day. The prize fund is $5000. The winner of each day gets $1000 and the loser $500. Whoever wins the all around gets a $500 bonus.
This is a match that I have had in the back of my mind for a long time. It worked out that now it will actually happen. Hopefully everyone that is interested will join us next month for what I think will be a great match.

I'm not sure why a lot of ppl have Corey on the ropes already. While I agree that SVB is the better player, I also feel that some of the gaps are smaller with this format.
SVB's biggest advantage is his big break. The same could be said that Corey's only big weakness is his hard break. That said, the only game out of the three, that favors the big break is 8 ball. 1 hole is gonna be close, IMO. And, RYO 9 ball, with soft breaking allowed? I think this one will be a genuine barnburner. Corey is a mad scientist/evil genius when it comes to figuring out this shit. Corey also was an influence on Donny Mills' RYO 9 ball game. Anyone remember TAR 17?

I would definitely want to watch some local or regional top players duke it out with a so-called professional and I'm sure people will pay to see that.

If they had a magic rack I might call it a coin flip with corey in 9b. But without that,
there will be a handful of breaks where the wing ball doesn't go, and that may favor the harder breaker.
In 8b I think both guys run out equally well but Shane's hard break will give him a big edge.
Corey's doomed here. See Bustmante vs. Alex playing 8b for a clear illustration of this.
Alex had youth and arguably straighter shooting on his side, but Busty won handily on his huge break.
I think this is the only game where Corey is truly an underdog.
One pocket is a funny game and we know Shane plays it well. It may be down to who has the patience.
I can see Corey taking some creative flyers and selling out while Shane just keeps plodding along.
After dozens of lengthy races to 25, 30, 100... Shane doesn't run out of patience.
