... It doesn't matter what the relative size of the OB appears to be at a distance for the CB will impact the OB 1/4" outside of the edge of the OB. ...
Well ... actually the CB is hitting the OB somewhere inside the OB edge. What's 1/4" (or half a ferrule width) outside the edge of the OB is a line or vertical plane through the center of the CB on its path toward the OB.
Shane was cutting the OB to the left down the rail at a cut angle around 40 - 45 degrees. In order to do that, he aimed the left side of the ferrule at the right 3:00 edge of the OB which put the center of the ferrule 1/4" outside of that edge of the OB - which would be correct for that shot.
The thing about this is that having an actual physical item to use as an aid helps immensely. For Shane and others it's the ferrule line. For some it's the shadows or the reflections and for others it's the edges and centers of the ball.
It's not always just pure feel or HAMB but instead is often a deliberate physical system that a person uses, which they certainly have to use some feel and some experience to dial in. But the fact is that Shane and other pros are starting to open up a bit more on the various ways that they aim and it's little surprise to some of us that it's not all just Hit a Million Balls until you feel it.
Imagine trying to build a house without a level and a tape measure. You could certainly do it but you'd probably have a lot of things to fix after the first good rain. Building a house isn't just hammering a million nails and building a strong pool game isn't just hitting a million balls. It's hammering those nails with the right technique and hitting a million balls with the right aiming method (right for you). As we know there are plenty of them which are better than Ghost Ball. Most of which use physical objects as the guides to aiming rather than invisible points on the ball or the cloth.
That's what I got out of this. And Rodney, and Johnny and Stevie and many others also use techniques that can rightfully be called systems to aim. All you have to do is catch them at the right time in the right frame of mind and they will tell you about them.
Drive cross country with David Matlock once and your head will explode with systems and pool theory. Professional players think a lot about ways to play the game. They may not always want to share things that they think give them an edge but it doesn't mean they aren't trying things out and trying to discover easier and better ways to play.
Does the ferrule tell him where the cueball is going or HAMB tells him that ?
Just asking.
I don't have that book, Lou, so I'm at a bit of a disadvantage in trying to see all they are saying. But the portion you quoted is not the same as Shane's 3-reference alignments.
It works because it is a trick of the eyes, it doesn't work on paper at all.
Previously on General Hospital... yes, the physical aiming aid would definitely be a plus. Once again, one of the reasons something this like this might help some folks just not for the advertised reasons.
Lou Figueroa
What are the advertised reasons?
I mean *nearly* straight in. Where a stop shot will miss but its a very thick cut. I mean, I know how I aim it, just wondering if this system has something for it.
Nice try, but not goin' there

This guy is a dinosaur and not good for the advancement of the game! He is a bad influence to to future of the game and this board because he is so set in his ways with his ego and arrogance. I understand AZ has a big influence in the pool world and we shouldnt let guys like him influence the game and people. He does not play 8,9 or 10 ball, his game has not advanced in 30 years and he has a few league old timers on here that follow him. He believes because he coughs up some money for open tournaments once or twice a year too play against pro's he knows everything about pool. he needs to look at other sports were they are constantly trying too get the best performance out of the players with new ideas, specific coaches for all parts of the game. The difference between him and a pro is the pro is always looking for ways to advance there game and trying to find an edge over the other guy and if you follow Lou Figawhatever and listen to his ways your game now will be the your game 20 years from now.
Why doesn't Lou Figawhatever post a review about how no pro's use aiming systems and dont use edges of balls for aiming again in the main forum, again? I like how he is hanging out in this thread trying to save himself from looking like the biggest dumbass on this board but unwilling to shoot his mouth like in the past about how no pro's use systems for aiming.

It seems to me that you're overreacting here. I haven't read anything by LF that warrants this response. Can't you just respectfully disagree?
Champ, stick around.. you'll find more people than you can handle that'll be more than willing to tell you everything you're doing wrong and everything that you need to do right, who have been playing the same speed for 20+ years. I found that out real quick in APA.. then I left 'em in the dust. It doesn't mean that you should ignore everything people say, just understand that you've gotta sift through a lot of dirt to find a piece of gold. Lou's no worse for the game than you are, it's just that you two harbor a lot of animosity towards each other based on personality and a nearly opposite view on poolplaying growth.
I just want to improve.. is that too much to ask?![]()
hey banks, i hear what your saying, its just that Lou figawhatever did pretty much everything possible to belittle aiming systems, users, instructors, the creator of pro1 and now we find out Shane admits he uses a aiming system that is similar in some ways to the system he trashed repeatedly on this board for years. Lou is just not a good person and he is an arrogant dick and people should use common sense when reading his posts because of his arrogance.
for someone who has a lot to say and critic better players and the game and its instructors, he sure doesn't have much of a game himself! here he is playing his game witch is not to impressive, no cue ball control, bad decisions, bad stroke also, missing straight in shots (that one was for you banks)
what did it cost him to go 3 and out $200? The man who brags that he palys world champions!

Well, I certainly can't act like a saint, since I've said some things and am not exactly on board with the aiming systems. They're for some people, not all, just like tips and sticks and LD shafts and so on.
I know he's better than bad decisions and a bad stroke on his average days. We all have off times.. I've had a few when they mattered - APA singles and the regional BCA singles. Everybody's got a lot to say.. well, a lot of people have a lot to say, regardless of their skill. I'm getting use to dealing with blow-hards, being a barbox APA player, who plays off-handed, doesn't take lessons, blah blah blah. I stick by my guns in that I will watch pretty much anybody play the game, looking for something to learn. That also goes for people that I agree with or not and so on.
$200 to go 3 and out? The last BCA tournament cost me about: $50 entry, $150 lodging, $50 in gas and my last few vacation days.. to go 2 and out. Breaking even playing much better players afterwards? Priceless.
You guys can continue running round and round.. I just wanted to try to interject a little calm. A lot of people would probably have better reputations if it weren't for things like this, myself included.
And the link was to Mr. 400's 154-ball run.
I think after a while, especially once attaining a high level of ability, anything that you do can pretty much fall under the definition of a system, due to the repetition of the actions.
