TAR Podcast tonight with Ronnie Alcano and Jayson Shaw. 9PM EST. Questions for them?

Of all the fundamentals of pool; which particular fundamental was it or is it that gives or gave them the most difficulty in mastering?

I would love to hear more about Ronnie getting his teeth removed. Why? Why? and Why? oh... and WTF WHY?!?!

I saw that TV interview where Ronnie said he pulled his teeth out so he could look like Efren. I would like to know if would do that again. I would also like to know if it is embarrassing for him that people know that he did that. It just does not seem to be the brightest thing a person could do.

40" Jump Cues

What do both players think about the short sticks? Do they take away from the game? Should they be banned?

For Jayson
1. How do you line your body and head and eyes up for a shot?
2. How do you aim?
3. How do you grip the cue with your back hand?

Ronnie switches cues so much. I'm curious to know what he looks for in his cues (tip, not using a 314 anymore, etc) and if its simply a matter of superstition.

Love the format you've started to do with the podcasts and I'm really looking forward to this one, not to mention the match as well! :)

Thanks so much Justin and TAR crew!

Just some advice: Don't ask personal questions. These are professionals, treat them as such.

We'd like to see these players back on TAR and elsewhere (like AZB), but who could blame them if they refused to go through "that" again?

There were some pretty embarrassing moments in the SVB/Dechaine interview. "Gee Mike, why is your head so big?" That was immature back in Mrs. Johnson's fourth grade class.

Unless of course, you want to be the National Inquirer of pool.

There are stories floating around that Ronnie pulled his teeth out with pliers to be like Efren. Can you ask him about that. Is it true?

I was wondering the same thing. This according to the Philippine Daily Inquirer:

Alcano started his billiards career playing rotation in Calamba, Laguna. And like his hero Reyes, he is soft-spoken and humble. Alcano?s remarks were always measured and he avoided personal attacks. And like the toothless Reyes, Alcano had all his teeth pulled so that he would look like his idol.

I know this question comes up alot, but if you at all possible you can ask them about their equipment, both players, such as, cue made? tip they prefer to use and why? weight of the cue? and to alcano what exactly is the orange part of the cue at the top of the forearm of his cue just below where you screw up the shaft.

I think personal questions are fine, not all personal questions are insulting.
"What do you like to do when you're not at the pool hall?" is a whole different planet from
"LOL why is your head so stupid?"

in their opinions, what is the most overlooked and under-practiced aspect of the game that keeps most decent to good amateur players from reaching the next level?

I wish this question got asked automatically on every podcast, it's probably the most
"useful" question I think... that and maybe some version of the "lightbulb" question
posted the other day in the forum. Something like "what was a realization that made you
feel like you just figured out something important that brought up your game?
Could be about spin, stance, mental game, whatever"

Nothing personal, but to me equipment questions are kind of boring and not useful,
I wish players would stop focusing on equipment. You can borrow ronnie's exact cue
for ten years and still never shoot like him (well, maybe you will, but it won't be
because of the stick).

If you find out one likes a 13 mm hard tip and the other likes an 11 mm soft
tip, what useful information did you gain that could improve your game?
Or even help you choose what tip to buy?
Let's skip these questions in favor of something interesting and useful.
You can just search the forum to find out what 100 different pros use.

What was the key factor in being able to make anything you shoot at. This may be in multiple stages over a period of time. Could you please elaborate on your answers.

For Daz: would you make more money if you lived in the UK and focused on Snooker?

He compared pool, snooker, and English 8ball in the previous podcast (which was great). But he did not explicitly mention why he does not go for the bigger Snooker payouts.

Questions

Ronnie, what do you think of Svb"s game , and that he refers to your us open match when he struggles?

Jayson has played quite a bit on the Diamond 10 footer. Matches include Ronnie, Busti and Archer is scheduled in April. What is his opinion of the 10 footer for pro competition?

Would he like to see more events played on it? Is he doing the "Bigfoot" at Tunica?

Well, guys, you really knocked this one out of the park. Best TAR podcast to date IMHO! The addition of Daz was awesome. Just loved his insight, and the drills he and Ronnie shared.

Can't wait until tomorrow to see these two GENTLEMEN play each other. First time I'll pay for all three days ahead of time.

Kicking myself for missing it damnit! What were the most notable questions & answers? How was Ronnie's english? Who's gonna win tomorrow? Thanks in advance.

Ronnie was hilarious. It was one of the best podcasts we have done. The 64 gig 1080i file is converting to a web friendly format now. It should be up early tomorrow morning.
