A GREAT DAY

Justin, you were hoping for a good turnout for this event and had expressed a concern about future events if this one did'nt draw enough people.
I hope for our sake you are getting enough to continue these TAR matches.

Ditto. I'd expect Justin to keep that # close to the vest. I sure hope they turn a profit for all their hard work, risk and investment.

I hadn't spent time on the associated chat, I wonder if there were more guests than in prior TAR matches. That may be an indicator.

you will know soon, may not get a exact number, but if he puts a post out saying that this format will never be used again, then you know the results.
If people won't pay for this match up, they won't pay for anything.

I am hoping to hear that it was a success and profitable so TAR continues on.

You are correct sir.
I woulda payed for the ppv even if I COULD'NT WATCH IT.

you're wrong. while I won't pay for a ppv of this match I would purchase the dvd.

These are my reasons for not wanting ppv:
  • I don't like to pay for things using a credit card on the internet
  • I would want to view something like this at a time that is convenient for me. ppv you have to be there or be square
  • I don't trust the reliability of the medium
  • matches look way better on my tv than my computer.

I understand what TAR is trying to do and think it's a worthwhile venture, thier ppv product isn't suited for my lifestyle. while these matches are running I'm either at work or playing pool.

I don't think they are looking for charity, I won't buy a product I'm not going to use.

I would however purchase a dvd after the fact. (and have)

I dont look at it as charity, they have streamed alot of matches for free over the years and I appreciate the entertainment I have gotten from them.
I am the opposite, would never buy the dvd but would pay for stream.
And,I understand where your coming from about internet security and reliabity.

I was also wondering how they did on this match. I know there were 80+ people signed in, and 70+ guest in the chat the first day. I do not know if these numbers are good or bad for them, and wheather it indicates the number of people who bought the PPV. Hopefully all the hundreds of people who are there when the streams are free have their schedules open for this PPV:)....(little sacasm)

In 2010, I think your mind should be at ease. I can understand not buying a car, house or helicopter online, though. I like to make those purchases in person.

Valid point, but does this stop you from watching live sporting events ect on tv? Like, the superbowl ect? Watching a game live and not knowing the outcome is a much better experience.

[*]I don't trust the reliability of the medium

Also a valid point. Streaming is still young relative to television and doesn't always go off perfect. I do know TAR will refund anyones money who contacts them while trying to get the stream to work and cannot.

matches look way better on my tv than my computer.

They do, but they are not live.

I'm a little bias here and I do understand your concerns, just think some of the matches TAR puts together are too good to pass up.

TAR PPV = Value

This last TAR match up went 179 racks. OK, so there were some technical difficulties at the start of Day 3, and we lost 12 racks. Let's say because of work and being able to get home in time, you miss another 30 or so racks over 3 days, that's almost 140 racks that you can watch world champions play for $25. Less than 20 CENTS a rack.

During these matches, there are always some new patterns, cue ball paths and definitely safeties that I see for the first time and practice and TRY to incorporate in my game. Hell, I don't even think you can get a one hour lesson for $25.

I have always been less risk averse than many when it comes to e-commerce, but PayPal may be the safest vehicle on the net. Owned by eBay, a $33B market cap organization, it's good enough for me, although I do understand some peoples' concerns. Perhaps a prepayment program?

I actually hold events at my house during TAR matches, winner stays on the table and the losers/rackers-to-be watch the match. I even stream it live on the big screen (haven't tried the projector, but a 55" big screen is pretty good) in the pool hall during our in-house league matches to try to get the name out. Everyone's reaction is always the same: wow, these guys are good, followed by, is it really just $25 for all 3 days?

I happen to purchase all the DVD's as well as the streams, so I would like to see some kind of DVD discount to stream purchasers, but now, I'm just getting greedy. What I would REALLY love to see is the recovery or even a rematch of Earl/Shane, or better yet rematch of Alex/Shane.

Sorry for such a long post, but this is one of those things that I can't believe everyone isn't jumping on. Not sure what the obstacles are, but from an entertainment and learning tool, I think it is the best value PERIOD.

I hope to see more TAR matchups in the future, and you can bet I'll be double dipping with the stream and the DVD's.

I think it's the nuts when pool room owners have matches going on the TV's. Buying the TAR DVD's and Accu-Stats type of stuff just to have going through a room changes the atmosphere in my opinion.

I agree. If TAR put out a combo deal where you could buy the stream and pre-order the DVD together for a discounted price, I would do that. Especially on a weeknight I just can't spend enough time watching live to justify buying the stream.

If they can't get a gang of people to pay $25 how can they get a bunch of people to pay $120?

BTW, there were 118 in the chat on day three. I'm sure there were more viewers than that.

I too agree that a combo deal would be nice, but at just $25 for 3 days of PPV, I'm not complaining about anything! The recent 14.1 world championships and the upcoming US Open are both about $50 for the PPV. These may contain more days, but that's starting to become a lot of $ for something that I can't watch multiple times at my convenience.

It was my first time purchasing the PPV and I bought the last day for $15 and it was well worth it. I can't wait for the next one.

The main reason I didn't order the PPV was I had league pool two nights this week and was busy last night. Would it be worth pushing to get pool halls to get the PPV be worth it in the future? If a pool hall was playing it, then TAR would get more advertising to pool players who may not frequent these forums and result in more PPV buys in the future. I'm glad TAR is supporting pool and would be interested to hear what kind of turnout they had.

All you need is a cable from your computer to your tv. I watched teh entire match on a big lcd tv, it was awsome. this also let me focus on the match and not chat so much, must of made many people happy.
