A one-eyed detective

In the 60s i used to play a lot of pool with Peter Falk at Tournament Billiards in Culver City.
I remember him asking me to play straight pool and, without thinking, I said "You can put what I know about straight pool in your eye," to which he smiled and said, "Which eye?" Red Fox hung around there a lot.
My ten years of living in Aspen spoiled me in Star gazing. When it becomes commonplace to see Jack Nicholson, Antonio Banderas, Kevin Costner, Kurt Russell and Oh My God, Ann Margaret, along with any number of celebrities on a daily basis you get kind of numb to it.
The sweetest of all is Goldie Hahn. She's just Goldie to everyone.

In the '70s I was working for Ed Sharp, the owner of "The Golden Cue" in Bladensburg, Maryland when Sugar Ray Leonard walked in with his brother. He was a young man back then, and not being certain about my dates, I think it wasn't long before that he had won boxing's Golden Gloves Award.

Well, I couldn't help myself, so I asked him if he would be interested in playing some nine ball for a few thousand dollars a game. HIs reply stopped me cold. "Sure, we can play for as much as you want but I have one condition. We box one round first". :eek:

Sorry to kill a cool story, but Pink Floyd hasn't toured since 1994 and hasn't toured with Roger Waters since years before that (1985) due to his estrangement and many lawsuits against the rest of the members of Pink Floyd, so the idea that you saw Roger Waters (maybe 6 years ago) while "Pink Floyd was in town for the long weekend doing a concert" seems a bit unrealistic.

I live in Hauppauge for about 5 years of my life. Speaking of the Gambino family, my uncle is a big time attorney in NY and lived 4 houses away from Gotti. Got his kids out of jail a few times and Gotti and his family would come over to his house for 4th of July each year.

In terms of famous people in the pool room...Nelly would come by the pool room from time to time in North St Louis. Years ago, I drove a Honda CRX. Nelly's bodyguard - Big B - as a joke went outside and picked my car up and moved it so it was sideways in a parking spot so I wasn't able to pull out til the one of the other cars next to me moved. Nelly can shoot a little pool himself.

My last poolroom was at Hollywood Park, next to the Forum where the Lakers used to play. One day who walks in but Jerry Buss, the owner of the Lakers, along with star guard Derek Fisher. Jerry asks for a table and pretty soon a crowd gathers around to watch him play. Jerry is taking on all comers, a game at a time. He was friendly as hell, laughing and joking with the regulars who were always there in the day time. Fisher meanwhile was content to sit on the sidelines cradling his ice cold beer.

I ended up playing Jerry a couple of games, being smart enough to make sure he won one of them. After that he came back in one more time and when I saw him at poker tournaments he always remembered me and asked how business was. One helluva nice guy! And he loved to play pool.
 
I am one of the managers at the Broken Rack in Emeryville CA, near San Francisco. Just 2 weeks ago, on a Monday, Marshawn Lynch came in with a bunch of his friends and played for a couple of hours. They pulled up in an SUV limo.

AJ Griffin, a pitcher for the Oakland A's, came in from time to time with his girlfriend. He gave me tickets to one of the last games against Texas where they clinched the playoffs.

The band UB40 stopped in one time to use our snooker table; they are from England and love playing snooker.
 
Just last night this guy who has a rep for being a nice guy and fairly solid pool player happened to be in the bar we shoot at.

One of our very dear former teammates is living in AZ and fighting for his life against Leukemia. So we made a little "Get Well Soon" sign. This shooter was kind enough to join our team photo in sending some positive energy his way.

Back in the 80's while working at the pool room at our college, James Doohan came in and played before his show that night.
 
Got me on that one chief lol I was pretty certain they were in town. As I said, I was told that it was him, but I couldn't personally confirm... :/ debunked sorry

It was about 10 or 11 years ago I worked for a Bank, since it was Presidents' Day I was off work. I went up to my favorite Pool Room Northfield Billiards and was just hanging around with maybe 7 or 8 guys that included 2 of the owners. It was a dingy cold depressing sort of a day and not much was happening at all. I remember looking out the front window and thinking ( that guy looks like Nick Varner ) and he was walking right towards the Pool Room. The closer he got the more it looked like him then I realized it is him! He was on the road selling his line of Nick Varner cues and cases , when he came in the group all perked up . Nick was the perfect salesman that day selling a good number of cues and cases's to the owners . I went to the drugstore and bought one of those throw away cameras and took some nice photos of Nick with everyone. He had been up in our area before but that day took everyone by surprise . Very good memories.
