Tell 'em like it is, Alex!

Since time immemorial, they've been at odds on a lot of things. They (Puyat
and his stable and the BSCP) don't see eye to eye and this Alex incident
might just ignite something that's been dormant for years now. Don't worry
Phoebe, Alex is in good comany who can make their own tournaments with or
without the BSCP's blessings.

Yes, this is one of the so-called "politics" that are involved. He mentioned that Puyat and the head guy of the committee don't get along. Funny how the one guy (Alex) the BSCP decided to cut out of the tournament was the lone representative from the Puyat stable. Cause as we all know Busta and Efren have not participated in any of the Guinness events this year.....things that make you go hmmmmm?

I'm just wondrin' why Japan isn't included in this tour? Alex looks more like Jap to me! :D
I dont appreciate your using the term JAP for Japanese. Its derogatory to us Japanese.

I dont believe "politics is the main killer of the sport". When Don Mackey ran the Camel tour sure there was a lot of political problems but it was a great time with a lot of great tournaments and cash for pool players. Even Kevin Treaudea brought in a lot of excitement and cash. Politics comes along with organization of any sport and it needs to be tempered by good soul. I dont think it destroy's any more than pool players who come in drunk, or high on drugs, or comes in like a slob and throws tantrums for the silliest reasons.
I have always been a fan of Alex. Since I first saw him when he came over and played in the Reno event. But I just think his game will suffer if he decides to get into politics of the sport. It takes a lot of ones focus and energy to do that. I guess thats why Efren and Django have been uninvolved where that is concerned and just concentrated on their game. I hope Alex continues to develop his game and he matures into a seasoned master.

hi phoebe. the thought has entered my mind as well. seems pretty screwy how things went. and it was unfair for the BSCP to try and paint alex as a player who would have to resort to sharking. however, in deference to bandido (who seems to know more about these things), i'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. it's good to hear though that puyat is supporting alex all the way and i'm sure that everything would be straightened out.

anyway, all the best to you and alex!

I am not Japanese but I agree with you. Some people are lacking in social skills and respect for other cultures.

By the way, Japan is represented on the Guinness Tour by Oi Naoyuki.

I wouldn't rush into conclusions like what you said. probably he didn't know it was offensive in nature for japanese. just to remind you that that person is not Japanese or knows Japanese culture. but to mind you that his statement was of no malicious intent as you perceive it to be. as you yourself said that you're no japanese. ;)

Well I am and am here to ask him not to use that word. You dont call Efren a "Flip" or Yang a "Chink" or Charlie Williams a "Konk", etc. The word Jap comes from when they were enemies during the War. It is derogatory. Any one who has some intelligence malicious or not should have some idea of its meaning.

Shows you I must not get out much because I have never even heard of two of those terms.

Here in D.C., folks try to be "politically correct" when referring to race, culture, or gender identity. There always seems to be an effort to categorize people, though, when communicating with others, whether it is Asian-Pacific Islander, African American, Native American, Hispanic or Latino or Latina, GLBT or LGBT, et cetera. It never seems to be black and white [no pun intended].

One of my favorite summer pastimes is to go to the Greek fairs in my area. Man, do I love dolmades and avgolemono soup! I always admired the Greek culture, the pride they have in their heritage, and to be a 100-percent thoroughbred.

I think what makes America the best country in the world is that we are so diverse when it comes to race, creed, and color. Though most of us in the States are of the Heintz-57 variety, shall I say, there is something to be said about American pride. Yet, to be an American is as colorful as a rainbow when it comes to race, ethnicity, or gender identity.

BTW, the National Powwow is coming up here in D.C., August 10-11, at the Verizon Center: http://www.nmai.si.edu

These are my people! :p

Ironically, this morning, I received this link by Led Zeppelin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mh8-ks6FpeE

Bottom line, we are all the same when it comes to the human race! :)

As the human race, we should place our priorities where they belong, which is to preserve our natural resources. The division of cultures shouldn't be the problem. Yet, it seems to be why there are wars in all societies, since the begnining of time. :(

not to disrespect but I believe you did not also consider that he might have used it as an abbreviation. it was ok for you to ask him not to mention it. the request was enough. I was merely pointing out the unnecessary remark given by another person. there are times that malice is created by the one who perceived them. btw, Efren is no Flip. he's a hombre ! :D :D :D

Sorry, I didn't know that and no offense meant...

And I take my sleeze-bag comment back. I don't know any of the three myself, only what other players and gamblers have told me. But I still say there are far more sleeze-bags today than years ago. Like Billy said, honor in gambling. You make a bet you follow through with it. Johnnyt

Opps wrong thread...sorry.

Thanks for your response gopi-1. Yes JAM we are a wonderful country, the best. But sometimes we got to be sensible. Recently on a pool chat line some fool posted that the Filipino's should get booted out because they stink up the place. I heard that kind of crap before and that kind of stuff should be called out.

I think it has something to do with Trade Regulation way back when it was still SMB sponsored.

True, my bartender got plastered when she uttered that certain "light color" to refer to something else, but the Koreans heard it kinda wrong. She was like, "what????"

So I told her, don't call them "yellow."

I'm a honkie!

Well, when it comes to racial slurs I am told that I am a honky (honkie?) cracker. I kinda like being a cracker as that is something crisp and tasty. And my love for mexican food does create some honking so I can't really ***** there. Frankly, while I am against purposefully insulting anyone I think we have taken this PC stuff a bit too far. Now I am told that the phrase 'those people' is racist and I gotta shake my head at this.

Oh come on Jerry. Youre old enough to know the terminology. If you want to make yourself feel less guilty for using it in the past thats fine. But using it now doesnt cut it. Its not PC if it is offensive. You just dont use it.PC has nothing to do with it. If you came into my neighborhood and used that terminology JAP you would be risking a lot and using the "too PC" excuse just wouldnt cut it. So lets cut the crap and be honest.

You'd probably cringe if you heard how my brother signs off with me on a telephone conversation. :o

When I ask him when is the next time I'll see him, he'll reply, "My people will get together with your people, and we'll do Chinese!" :D

Speaking of Chinese, when Parica stayed at my house for a short spell, I noticed he did not like most American food. I made him a tuna fish sandwich with mayonaise, and he picked at it, like a child who didn't want to eat his meal. He ate the bread and left the tuna fish salad uneaten on the plate. I soon found out that Jose actually does prefer Chinese food. :p

One time at a Joss tournament at Turning Stone Casino, me and mine were chowing down at the buffet and along comes none other than Francisco Bustamante who decided to sit down and join us for dinner. He had 45 minutes to kill before he had to play in the FINALS. Bustie proceeded to stuff his beak by chowing down on a full meal, consisting of a huge T-bone steak! :p

He then moseyed on upstairs to play his finals match against Dennis Hatch, and Bustie won the whole shebang!

Most Asians are lactose intolerant. Not too big on dairy products, except for warm buffalo milk in the morning Filipinos hardly eat food with predominantly dairy taste.

We need a new thread now . . .

Now why would I cringe. After all over a billion people eat chinese food 365 days a year. LOL! And anytime you are in the LA area you and your brother have a standing invite to some of the secret Chinese Restaraunts that only the locals know about.
I'm not so thick skinned as I cant take a joke. And gopi-1 made such a matured and honest response. I just like to say my side of the story. Can we agree that the term JAP is derogatory and insulting.
Getting back to Alex Im sure he has his side too as to what he deems offensive and what is not. I hope they work it out. I do think in Asia there is a different concept of sportsmanship. I dont think that getting on top of a table as Karen Corr and Earl did after defeating their opponents would make a lot of friends. I dont know if you ever watched Iron Chef competition but when Bobby Flay stood up on the kitchen counter in victory that pissed a lot of Asians off as they consider the cutting board a sacred place to a chef.
As far as Philipino food goes Im sure you might find it a rough going. I grew up with my Philipino auntie and her children. You must try the BAGOONG. It is fermented fish guts over rice and BALUT which is half grown chicken embryo. Or Dinaguan. You know stew made out of pigs blood and innards. Yummy!
