Just got a texted reply from Terry Ardeno, a much loved member of the forum old timers won't have forgotten! Lost touch the last few years so that made my Christmas.
To give some idea how popular he was, he was having a major surgery years ago. He being a rough and tumble guy with a heart of gold I couldn't send flowers but I hit on the idea of a large balloon bouquet. Manly enough plus a huge bunch of balloons showing up at his room would embarrass him a bit making for a good laugh for both of us later.
Then I had the "brilliant idea" to involve the forum. I posted one afternoon. Five or ten minutes later there was $75 pledged coming from a half-dozen people. I tried to slow things down but everyone wanted in for Terry. I woke up the next morning to over a thousand pledged!
Money kept pouring in. Terry wasn't going to be able to do stairs for about a month and would not have internet access. We bought him a nice laptop, lots of pool videos, and wired internet to his bedroom. As much for our benefit as his but to say Terry was floored would be an understatement!
I hope to catch up with Terry for a conversation soon. He has moved on in life and wasn't playing pool last I knew but I'll try for an update.
