Just got a texted reply from Terry Ardeno, a much loved member of the forum old timers won't have forgotten! Lost touch the last few years so that made my Christmas.

To give some idea how popular he was, he was having a major surgery years ago. He being a rough and tumble guy with a heart of gold I couldn't send flowers but I hit on the idea of a large balloon bouquet. Manly enough plus a huge bunch of balloons showing up at his room would embarrass him a bit making for a good laugh for both of us later.

Then I had the "brilliant idea" to involve the forum. I posted one afternoon. Five or ten minutes later there was $75 pledged coming from a half-dozen people. I tried to slow things down but everyone wanted in for Terry. I woke up the next morning to over a thousand pledged!

Money kept pouring in. Terry wasn't going to be able to do stairs for about a month and would not have internet access. We bought him a nice laptop, lots of pool videos, and wired internet to his bedroom. As much for our benefit as his but to say Terry was floored would be an understatement!

I hope to catch up with Terry for a conversation soon. He has moved on in life and wasn't playing pool last I knew but I'll try for an update.

I remember that well. Terry had unbelievable knowledge of the game and players. That is great that he is still out there.

I talked to Terry over two hours last night. I think the last person I was on the phone to that long was Hal Houle listening to his stories!

Terry has suffered some decline in health but not as bad as I had feared so the call was more reward than loss.

I mentioned I had started this thread which he was happy about. He is glad to be remembered on AZB. For those that remember his avatar or checked out his posts one thing he said to tell everyone, he still loves his wife! A pretty lady that has stuck with him through thick and thin, he is a lucky man. Of course she is an equally lucky lady. There aren't many like either of them in this world.

A bit of a sappy post, it's that time of year. I found an old and dear friend I thought was gone. I guess I am entitled to a little silliness!

Guys, nothing I would like better than to get Terry back on AZB. I know there is no chance of that happening for medical reasons. His days are pretty much jammed one way or another and there is no time for the internet. The only thing he does is facebook and he limits that to five minutes a day.

Nothing ventured nothing gained ha ha ask him anyway if nothing else he'll get the feeling of being wanted or needed again .
Which does a body good when dealing with medical situations trust me , as hard as it maybe to believe I was getting tired of talking to nurses no matter how cute they were for those 7 weeks spent in the hospital .
 
Terry was definitely one of the good guys, as nice as nice can be to everyone. I met him at Super Billiards Expo when it was at Valley Forge, and he asked for a photo with Keith. I was getting ready to snap the photo, and he said, "You too, JAM." I was honored to be included. So somebody else snapped the photo. His contributions to pool-related threads was a great read each and every time.

I am reminded of this Maya Angelou quote: " I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. " And that is Terry Ardeno to a tee, He made people feel special.

I accepted the fact we probably would not be talking much in the future. After he went dark on here I thought we had lost him. I'm very glad to know he is still with us.

Jay, his number is still the same. If you reach him I think he would be thrilled to hear from you. He can be hard to reach. Need I say well worth the effort! If you get ahold of him let him know how many posts and likes he is getting on this thread. My best liked thread in ages!

Jay if you have his phone number give him a call , as I've mentioned before it's good for one's soul to get a phone call just to say hello , how's things or what's new and exciting , or take the chance of not calling him and things take a turn for the worse and you loose that opportunity .

Can't call now, I'm in the Philippines. AT&T will charge me an arm and a leg! I can only communicate long distance on FB Messenger or by e-mail. Switching to T Mobile when we get back.
 
Well Jay , have a little fun for me while you're there in the Philippines , my dad told me stories about how they had oranges that were nearly the size of a large grapefruit when he was there during WW II

Ate one like that a few days ago, grown in Laplace LA. Lousiana naval. They aren't pretty like Florida citrus but even just a touch green that tree ripened orange was the best I have eaten in a few decades and yes most of the grapefruit today are smaller.
