Thanks to the Bonus Ball Crew...

I am embarrassed to admit in the throws of the streaming train wreck I posted a few posts like everyone else... They were attempts at humor but it was at Nathan and crews expense.. For that I apologize.. I would also like to, in the light of day, say thank you to those very people for trying... Success and failure of the concept will be based upon the long term and not the first weekend...

Until there is more exposure and the kinks are worked out it will be hard to say what I think of the new game. I had a very difficult time following it but if the stream quality was better I am thinking that the commentary would have gone a long way to opening up my understanding....

I liked the score graphics changing to indicate the ball each team was required to shoot and that the BBall emblem at the back of the arena changed color as well....

I didn't really care for the black and white jerseys and would love to see the jerseys in actual team colors instead of the away team wearing white like the NHL... There is no passing of the ball so teammate confusion is not an issue.... The team logos are great and would look great in HD if they were on vibrant colored jerseys... Rigging Full Color LEDs inside of the pockets would allow the pockets to glow with respective team colors and the painting of the pockets wouldn't be required..

The girls are fine but during the match having them out there is odd. Wiping the table down is a nice touch as Lee racks but I would having them holding mechanical bridges during the matches so they kind of have a purpose other than catching the eyes of the viewers...

Camera 1 was static Friday so Lee was cut off at the waist when he was explaining things. I am betting it will be manned as soon as the kinks are worked out.. If that's not the plan consider it please, anytime someone is talking it's nice to see their face.. Commentators of course excluded LOL...

I know there are tons of bells and whistles that Nathan intends to bring in so a few weeks from now the show won't even resemble what was on tap this weekend... Going forward until BBall reaches the point at which Nathan says we are 100% I intend to keep my big yap shut. Everyone has to learn to crawl before they walk.....

Good Luck Guys,

Chris

Thanks for helping this forum get back on track with a positive post. It's time to move on, yet some folks can't let go.

Appreciate your post!

Nathan was told before to drop the dumb white jerseys but he's a stubborn guy. I agree, they should all have the colored jerseys on. The game is really good, easy to understand. The Bonus Ball girls are hookie and need to be saved for the midnight MEN's night out game featuring half naked ladies playing Bonus Ball!

Seriously, the management needs to be replaced, the game is awesome and the team concept and league structure is totally unique. They got all that right!

I agree JAM. It is time to move on. What has been said in the last 2 days was (in most part) needing to have been said IMO. We are all accountable for our actions and words.

There's been a wealth of advice given here on AZB. The WPBL has so much on the line. Though they have made some bad, costly decisions, I genuinely hope they can get it right.

As disappointed in the delays, the feed, and poor WPBL "PR" response as I have been, I want the best for the pool industry. I am still a proponent of BB.

Hopefully they come out next week with a good stream, we can finally see it ourselves and then determine how it appeals to us. My fingers are crossed and am appreciative for what they are attempting to accomplish.

I hope Nathan and crew brushes off the dirt and comes out swinging!

I too owe apologies even though I have supported bb a LOT I let frustration get the best of me.

Hopefully we can all look back and laugh about it... I think the frustration levels were high across the board......

But they still have not addressed the problem that BB has put the players 'in the middle' and they are liable to get 'caught' short.

Why do the players have to choose events?

All could have been avoided with a little bit of planning from the BB people.

Good Post, Chris, yes, there's always going to be "growing pains" in anything.

Good Post, Chris, yes, there's always going to be "growing pains" in anything. I'm just glad to see something different happening, it's like a seed's development, it starts out painful, but ends up blossoming.

Play Well, the Givers are the Winners in Life.

Since they now will have 2 alternates on every team, couldn't this be used to help alleviate this situation??? QUOTE]

Not really. Most of the Alts want to play in the major added money events. And most are a threat to win any event they enter. Hell, Ralf is an alternate and so why would he want to fore-go free money since he always finishes high in the money? There are other great alts as well, I'm not going to name them all.

Question is, if bonus ball cares so much about the players, why couldn't they schedule around other major events that offer added money that ends up in the pockets of those cherished players?

But they still have not addressed the problem that BB has put the players 'in the middle' and they are liable to get 'caught' short.

No matter how many times this is pointed out... it is still the case ... so ... plan accordingly.... maybe it will be better during season 2...

Please, give the dead horse you continue to beat some dignity and let it be buried and forgotten.

Come on Mark!Your not concerned about pro players. Your concerned about Mark Griffen's free professional show. You are not concened about the pro player. Give us a break. Bonus Ball league format has you shaken in your boots and the fact that they are paying players makes you cringe!

And exactly what should Mark be concerned about 4 Post person who took their name from a chocolate bar?

I think you have Mark all wrong. he does care. He doesn't have to do what he does to survive.

Its a labor of love.

Not to nitpick CJ, but a new enterprise only experiences "growing pains" after it enters the market and is so successful that demand exceeds product and/or organizational capacity. BB appears to be having difficulties while in the initial and unproven "start-up" stage. Huge difference which needs to be noted.

You're exactly right

You're exactly right, and I "meant" to write "labor pains" ;) That better fits my seed analogy don't you think, "giving birth to a new pool game"....I don't envy them, that's for sure, I respect what they're doing, the alternative is much worse.

Tough not to admire the spirit in which the original post is made, but the truth is this:

1) If one takes a generous view, those who've watched the opening bonus ball matches, because they haven't paid to watch, are the test market for the bonus ball product. If is not only appropriate but mandatory for those in the test market to provide as much feedback as possible to the would-be seller of that product. That is why a product is test marketed in the first place.
2) If one takes a more realistic view, bonus ball never really test marketed its product to get out the kinks before the product launch. Had they done so, they'd have known that their streamed product wasn't ready for launch. Oddly enough, they believed it ready for launch in January.
3) If one takes a more critical view, bonus ball is a product which, as stressed ad nauseam by the bonus ball management team, was developed by pros for pros and its what they want to play. Far more significantly, it is a game that was not developed with significant input from would-be fans and potential amateur players of bonus ball. Hence, the reactions to the game itself are exactly what one would have expected.

And for those who like to dabble in proverbs, remember that "you never get a second chance to make a first impression." Bonus Ball will have to succeed based on second impressions.

I will continue to watch and support bonus ball and wish the WPBL every possible success, but I will not desist from posting comments meant for both the bonus ball team and the current and would-be fans of bonus ball, positive or negative.

Your way off here. Do your research. Not even close. Mark is the closest the industry has to the Pope (quick somebody photoshop Mark's face in the Popemobile).
