The 10 Most Influential People in billiards

Ten most influencial people in pool? I never look because it makes me sick! None of them should be magazine editors.

Fourth estate has always seemed to be in control of who should receive kudos in pool. They love to give each other the high-fives, and they seem to often forget the people who actually do play pool. I never understood it and still don't today.

I noticed the BCA isn't on the list. Sad.

I agree. Mark should be near the top as well.

If Matchroom/ESPN do such great jobs televising and promoting pool on TV--- how comes I never see pool on tv... like...ever?

Watching boring trickshots and classic billiards from back when I used to pull turds out of my diaper and throw it across the room doesn't even count.

When is the US Open on ESPN? When is the World 9/10-ball on ESPN?

We should never glorify ESPN especially, imo. They stick pool in between the "logger games" and the 1978 shot put finals around 3am or so. If there's a MAJOR pool event, the pool promoter has to PAY THEM to get them to show up and film. PAY THEM.

Yeah yeah--- of course ESPN and other stations don't have to get paid to show up to other major sporting events. Yeah yeah--- we know that's because people actually watch those events so they can make money on commercials and advertising. It is what it is. Nevertheless--- we should never glorify them and say they're "Influential." They're only influential when they're taking a promoter's cash to show up.

They will get paid and they all know it. Although not perfect, Barry has a better track record than most.

I dont think that makes it right.

Just goes to show how low the standard is in pool. The oldest promoter in US leading by his example and lowering the added money by 40% then not paying the players (till whenver he has it).

It is what it is and Barry does the best he can. He ain't perfect and he has had his problems but I guarantee there is no one more passionate about doing good things for pool players.

It's easy to criticize while sitting behind your keyboard but promoting big tournaments for over 35 years is a difficult and thankless job.

Maybe you can step up and show us all how you can do things better.

dont need to. there are already promoters who are legitimate and pay off on time and never reduce the money advertised.
Matchroom Sport, Dragon Promotions, Allen Hopkins, APA, Mark Grifin...Probably 500 events between them all with no financial problems and sound business people.
its obvious why they made the list here and BB didnt

The poll was ran by Philippine media. That probably skewed the results a little bit.

We were invited to participate but did not. Not sure if Brunswick was invited or not.

I suppose if it was done by a US media source the same could be said :)
If it was a Filipino media source, im surprised they put 2 foreign companies at top and Efren at #3 and no other asians in top 10. Id expect Mackebenta,Puyat,Alcano,Pagualyan etc to be filling ths spots up.
I remember reading a Billiards Digest poll of the whos who in power in industry and I believe all 15-20 names were all US based companies. At least this poll cared to include foreign votes, not just Amercians. Though I think our vote is important in America LOL

Grady- your quote I must disagree with. One Magazine Editor, who also a billiard promoter for both Pool and 3Cushion Billiard is Paul Frankel, Editor of "Professor-Q-Ball" Magazine, and should be on the list.
