How many players do you actually think will show up in Chicago expecting a check?
They should re-name it the "Titanic Tour" because none of the blamed people were in the original "Un-Sinkable Tour" plan that was presented to the public. Even the thought of the Idea of the Chicago and KOH events being blended into the same event (I doubt it will happen anyway) shows that they are readying the life boats.

Some form of very firm and clear statement of promises to players is due within a week.
It needn't include all dates and exact details, but very clear language regarding guarantees.
This announcement did not provide any of the assurances hoped and asked for.

This reads a little like, 'if the merger doesn't go through, then there is no guarantees of payment' as appeared in the previous announcements which said the players will be paid.

I think what might help is a letter from Ho and KT outlining this intent. Still no guarantee here but at least it helps substantiate a bit to the players.
If by some margin this is not successful, I do believe that all is not lost. Clearly most of billiards, at least in the US, has been nothing more that those organizations sucking players money and leaving the industry dry. If nothing more, KT has stated this and probably more so has Mike S. and we all feel it.
I am not sure the prize money was the selling factor, instead it was respect for players and the game is what we bought. Players have been offered huge prize money in the past without delivery, so many were not takers at first. So, at least me, the prize money was the excitement only after I realized that just maybe here is an organization that represents fairness for the players and fans.
So if for some reason this does not pan out, my thoughts would be that this same idea could work quite well. The only way I could feel comfortable is to have players create an organization themselves and be accountable to everyone - no more self interest dictators. Voted in and voted out, insurance guarantees for prize money and audited. Right now there are to many organizations that are self accountable and this stuff just doesn't breed trust, at least not in this industry.
This is an opportunity and there are many positive ways to build up what we hope to gain by the IPT. Again my interest is for the success of the IPT, players deserve it, fans deserve it and so do vendors - our industry.

Yep, he read the message boards, cut out the stuff in it he liked, and pasted it into a message of his own and delivered it to the IPT players.
I'm surprised he didn't mention the Bible.

The only question I have is why bother with delaying tactics? The longer it goes on the more people forget about it and it all goes away? Maybe there really is no need for him to file bankruptcy after all. He just can forget about everything that happened and go on with his life.

In the interest of PR, why hasn't / didn't he pay the players from his own ammassed wealth and recoup from Ho?

The only reason other player funded million dollar tournaments haven't happened is because people didn't trust the people behind them. KT created an illussion that this tour would be personally funded which we can all see is clearly not the case. The aim from the start was to fund the tour poker style via qualifiers, this was the one area that they steadfastly refused to waiver on. Of course its been pointed out that these funds didn't come close to covering the costs of the events to date.....which is why we are where we are today, events cancelled, players, venues and suppliers not paid.
No doubt a ballsy plan, but fundamentally flawed. The question now is can anybody see a future in the good that the IPT has done and tweak the format and the way it is funded to create a sustainable business!

The problem is even if a miracle happens and he sells this dead duck the cheques would go out in 2-3 weeks. Most overseas players wouldn't get them for another week and then they would have to wait for them to clear. This would mean players won't receive funds until maybe a few days before chicago, IF the Ho deal isnt BS.
This is going to be a real test of the players faith, I know a few players are already considering not going if they got the money today. You just cant book flights/hotels etc days before.
It doesn't take a prophet to see whats going to happen next, turn up to chicago to get your cheques, IF he hasn't bailed by then.
