Did anyone know about this thing? Team Canada VS USA going on now.

Border Battle in Trenton, Canada. Its Team USA: Johnny Archer, Corey Deuel, Shane Van Boening and Tony Robles against Team Canada: Jason Klatt, Alain Martel, Chris Orme and John Morra.

If anyone has some results, i'd love to hear'm.

Team USA won! How do I know? Shane just called me. He's flying in to L.A. tomorrow. He needs a chauffeur. :)

I read somewhere that team USA was winning by such a large margin on the first day that they extended the race by 33% to give Canada a chance to make a comeback. lol

Can anyone confirm this?

I'm Canadian, so I'm allowed to make fun of our team (although Morra and Klatt are playing top notch these days).

Nathan take a look at the first post and tell me how you like that match-up.

This is what is wrong with professional pool today.

Here we have some of the top players in North America and they are playing an event that very few people have heard about.
Why wasn't this being promoted, streamed or even talked about.

Can anyone shed some light as to why this thing was kept so quiet and maybe get some suggestions as to how it becomes more public in the future.

I'd have to agree, pool definitely has a daffazut of quality promoters.

And here is another problem with people ASSUMING that something underhanded has taken place....the Border Battle was put together at the last minute because of program scheduling, not the fault of the promotors...believe me we would have loved to have had more time and bigger audience, but the reality was we didn't.....it was not streamed because TSN put up the money for the event to be AIRED on their HD channel in September (NETWORK PROGRAMMING) so why would they show it ahead of time!....In future people need to be careful in how they word messages such as this one, you never know if the sponsors are monitoring these types of forums, I know I would be if I were a sponsor, and BTW I was, Racktight was the official rack sponsor for the event, and we added CASH!...We are hoping that this will be an on going event, it's future is entirely in the hands of the fans!

No one was assuming anything underhanded Grace and that post you seemed to think was uncalled for was very mild. If we have to avoid posts that mild, we might as well shut this forum down imho.

$50,000 in prize money is huge and not a word anywhere until the end of the event. Was this a basement battle or border battle? A few emails and post to the right people and websites would have done wonders to build interest and a following.

I think they just took 50,000 pool dollars and burned it. They could have promoted a Canadian Open with $50,000 added, $300 entry - 128 player field and done something great!

I hope the 3 people that knew and the 2 teams bought $50,000 worth of stuff from sponsors.

If TSN just paid $50,000 to fill space, that changes everything... Better pool than air hockey or something.

Who were the promotors? I see bonus ball was being showcased too. Glad to see Tony R get a nice payday out of it. Johnnyt

I'm with you. In no way did leagueguy's post imply anything underhanded or sinister. In fact, I believe just the opposite.

What I took from his post was that there were some really great players playing in a "Border Battle" which is sure to build hype and emotions in fans, but yet no one knew. I thought he meant that he really wanted to see these guys play and is disappointed that not enough attention was paid to the fans, who are the ones actually important to the growth of pool.

Without fans to support and buy the sponsors products, there is no reason to have an event, hence the other poster saying you would have been just as well served to burn the money. There is a reason there are commercials during programming, and it's not because the advertisers like to see themselves on tv.

It's success will be up to the fans, true, and they should be listening now, to a few fans who only pointed out a couple of things that might help make it more successful the next time. No one was accusing anyone of anything, they only wanted to point out that this could have been something very special.

Grace,

I was in no way suggesting that there was anything underhanded going on. In fact the complete opposite.

There have been numerous threads recently about why the game can not become more mainstream and how we can fix that problem.

I was only trying to point out that if this type of an event could have been advertised better, there would have been a chance of very strong fan support behind it.

My question was why did it not happen and you answered that for me. I was not aware that it was done at the last minute and that it was taped for TV. I can now understand why it was not streamed and why it was not promoted as heavily as it maybe could have been.

There are many other large events that do not get any publicity or coverage and in my opinion that is bad for the growth of the professional game. I do think that there are ways that we can fix that problem but if no one asks the questions beginning with how or why then we will never be able to fix the problem

Again, no disrespect intended at all and in fact if you were involved with putting that event on at the last minute then kudos to you and the others involved. I am sure it was a great event and hopefully the pool community can promote the crap out of it next year.

I would have gone to watch it live had I heard a single word about it. Unfortunately, I heard about it on Shane's Facebook the same day the event began.

Organizing it may have been last minute, but I have zero doubt that "last minute" was still sufficient time to send out a press release and get word out to the fans.

Anyway, all that aside, thanks for making the event happen. I look forward to watching it in September.

I think bottom line is that we are pool fans and would have loved to be kept in the loop.

We were certainly *not* inconvenienced in any way/ shape/ form by the event happening, but if we don't know about...

If a tree screams in the woods, does a tree really scream?
