It's Thursday now...
...and no reports of anyone getting paid.
I guess we can probably put the whole "forgot to check Saturday delivery" theory officially to rest. If they actually have problems with cash balance that's really bad. Running a business at a loss for a while is one thing, you expect that in the beginning, but actually running out of cash is a whole different story. When you're out of cash it's game over. In fact, I'm kinda stumped because I can't imagine that anyone with any business experience at all would run the risk of running out of cash in this way. I mean, they have known for six months that they had a hard-deadline $3mil expense coming up last weekend.
On the other hand, if they have the cash, the worst thing they could do for their reputation would be to botch the payments. And, like Jay Helfert said, getting the checks to Reno is a hanger. I mean, if they had the cash, they could get the checks delivered to the south pole if they wanted, on Sunday, with a few hours notice. They're a business, it's not like they need to wait for the first national bank of Bumblef**k to open on Monday morning. And yes, FedEx delivers on Saturday. In fact, they deliver on Sunday. They deliver same-day. This is a modern economy, we're not talking about the Pony express. Also, this is a bunch of checks that need to be delivered, it's not heavy or fragile. And by the way, you don't need to actually mail physical checks to get cash transferred from one place to another. If you wanted to get $3mil to Reno because you wanted to play some high-stakes blackjack on Sunday, I'm pretty sure the casino would find a way to make that happen.
Also when they "accidentally" missed the payments in Reno, the first thing you do on Monday is overnight the checks so they arrive on Tuesday morning. And then you issue a big apology to all players and you fire everyone involved with the botched checks.
Not sure what's going on here. Either huge mismanagement of cash, or huge incompetence. I hope its incompetence, but with every passing day, cash problems become the more likely explanation. Or maybe there's some other explanation, but whatever it is, at this point it's no mistake, and the players haven't gotten paid because the IPT has intentionally decided to not pay them yet for whatever reason.
If the checks come next week, then I would guess they don't quite have enough cash to cover the prize fund, and they need the revenue from the first set of qualifiers to make it. Which would still be weird because the qualifiers are not going to bring in that much cash, and you'd think if it was close then KT the "billionaire" would just personally make up the difference.
