"The Checks are in the mail." Oh Dear...

This has been said before, but the big bar table tournaments in Vegas such as the BCA, VNEA or APA pay people by check in Vegas.

We are talking about well over 1,000 checks that are printed out and given to the players a couple of hours after they have been eliminated.

The IPT has no excuse.

They should have either brought the checks with them or have had them shipped to them earlier in the week.

Psst, this is not about having or not having the checks there on time. That's a hanger.

Looks like a clerical mistake. :(

And you bought that. C'mom Linda. Are you really that naive?

So the checks arrived Monday

Did they offer to have cheques for people who waited on Monday?

Does FED-EX work on Saturdays. They don't here. i had a package sit at their warehouse 2 miles from my house and they would not let me come pick it up. i was told that i had to wait for delivery on Monday........mike

"YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS"! Someone forgot to tell Fed-Ex that the checks needed to be delivered by Saturday or find out if Fed-Ex even delivers on Saturday - that's rich. Besides, if any company worth their salt had a PR nightmare like this actually accidently happen, the chief executive would have made sure that the checks would have been OVERNIGHTED no later than the following Monday morning.

Yes, they do deliver on Saturdays, but probably the facility is not open for people to come in. I used to send tons of stuff and was warned by my company not to check the Saturday box, as it is way more expensive to have delivered then.

Also, I'm not sure many players would stay another day...they already had flights scheduled out of there for Sunday.

I remember sitting on the underground in NY on my first visit to the USA in 94. There was 2 old women sitting across from me and could overhear their conversation. They both were very religous and one women seemed riddled with guilt. She had recently "signed up to the silver membership" at her local church but she said "I feel guilty I didn't join the gold level, it was only a few thousand dollars more". It stook in my mind because these poor women had somehow been convinced to part with large sums of cash and they genuinely believed that they we're not being taken for a ride.

Since then I've seen countless, often much more creative variations of similar schemes all around the world. It never ceases to amaze me how a good salesman can convince people that a spade is indeed a club.

Casino thinking

My hope for the IPT is it's not 'another pipe dream'........... the thinking in Las Vegas at the Rivera hotel when doing payouts for the BCA event was, "get the checks to the players and let em get the cash at the cages, they made sure the players were walking around with all that cash in their pocket". IMO I would of wanted McCready walking around "my" casino with $30,000 burning a hole in his pocket, if it didn't happen someone would of been shown the door. Jay...thought you might like this 'ether' post :D Jam its all in fun:cool:

(sorry for stealing your cleverness Todd, but maybe my addition will make you smile, I know your pic was very funny)

Sorry gal, not when it comes to people like KT. I have been dealing with them for years. I will bet you whatever you want, the IPT is gonna go down faster than the twin towers. Have you ever seen a snake charmer?
You have recently met one! The cobras head just sways back and forth and up and down listening to that beautiful flute. I think you folks are being mesmerized by the supposed cash. The elusive supposed cash now.
You figure out what you are willing to pony up and PM me. Good Luck and please don't take this personal.

Purdman,
Your signiture at the bottom of your posts is a quote by Mark Twain and I can't help but think that if Mark Twain were talking to KT when giving this advise it would appear that KT was following this advice......hmmmmmmm

Maybe you should change your signiture....hmmm

It's Thursday now...

...and no reports of anyone getting paid.

I guess we can probably put the whole "forgot to check Saturday delivery" theory officially to rest. If they actually have problems with cash balance that's really bad. Running a business at a loss for a while is one thing, you expect that in the beginning, but actually running out of cash is a whole different story. When you're out of cash it's game over. In fact, I'm kinda stumped because I can't imagine that anyone with any business experience at all would run the risk of running out of cash in this way. I mean, they have known for six months that they had a hard-deadline $3mil expense coming up last weekend.

On the other hand, if they have the cash, the worst thing they could do for their reputation would be to botch the payments. And, like Jay Helfert said, getting the checks to Reno is a hanger. I mean, if they had the cash, they could get the checks delivered to the south pole if they wanted, on Sunday, with a few hours notice. They're a business, it's not like they need to wait for the first national bank of Bumblef**k to open on Monday morning. And yes, FedEx delivers on Saturday. In fact, they deliver on Sunday. They deliver same-day. This is a modern economy, we're not talking about the Pony express. Also, this is a bunch of checks that need to be delivered, it's not heavy or fragile. And by the way, you don't need to actually mail physical checks to get cash transferred from one place to another. If you wanted to get $3mil to Reno because you wanted to play some high-stakes blackjack on Sunday, I'm pretty sure the casino would find a way to make that happen.

Also when they "accidentally" missed the payments in Reno, the first thing you do on Monday is overnight the checks so they arrive on Tuesday morning. And then you issue a big apology to all players and you fire everyone involved with the botched checks.

Not sure what's going on here. Either huge mismanagement of cash, or huge incompetence. I hope its incompetence, but with every passing day, cash problems become the more likely explanation. Or maybe there's some other explanation, but whatever it is, at this point it's no mistake, and the players haven't gotten paid because the IPT has intentionally decided to not pay them yet for whatever reason.

If the checks come next week, then I would guess they don't quite have enough cash to cover the prize fund, and they need the revenue from the first set of qualifiers to make it. Which would still be weird because the qualifiers are not going to bring in that much cash, and you'd think if it was close then KT the "billionaire" would just personally make up the difference.

How about those players from Reno that need the cash to send back to the IPT for this weeks 2007 qualifiers?

Im going to start my own tour. It will be called the USPT ( United States Pool Tour). We are going to have 15 events next year with a GUARANTEED prize fund in each one of $50 million. A qualifying school will be held in November to decide which 100 people get tour cards for next year. The entrance fee in the q-school will be $100,000 , but if you make the top 100 you will be guaranteed 48 million dollars next year. I only have $1100 in my paypal account to pay out and I don't have any sponsors yet, but I've already got 80 employees working hard to find venues that seat 65,000 and have good buffets. If anyone is interested, the website will launch in 2009.

Seeing as how the IPT are keen on Internet-based technology, including forcing anyone who wants to buy tickets or pay an entry fee to do so on their website via a credit card, why can't they just PayPal the payments to the players, or do a direct bank transfer?
It might cost the a bit in transaction fees, but so does physical check generation and postage.

Ok, today is Thursday.....Linda did you get your check (s) yet? If they were mailed Monday, no way you wouldn't have them by now.

Also, when you get your check---please give me the name of the bank & the checking account number. I'll verify funds & see how much money the IPT really has.
