The Gus that won't go away

Did Barry confirm this cue as a real Gus. It's look like a damn nice player's cue.

Last time it was up for auction it reached 4K+ before it was pulled. The same guy in KY has offered it the last few times it was on E-Bay.
 
Here is all I will say.

This is probably another guy who asked an individual who had NO INTEREST in the cue what the value should be. He got ridiculously wrong information and is stuck on that number. The number is probably 1.5x the market price but this individual wants to show everyone who'll listen his supreme knowledge base and how much he knows about cues.

I can't tell you how many times at VF this year I heard... we'll this guy told me this.. and this guy told me that... I was offered. xxxxx . I had a guy come to me with a model I Palmer that was refinished, really nice cue. Gus points, all really nice. He asked what I would pay him for it,I said since it's resale I can only give you 800-1000. He said, this guy offered me 3k.. I am like go get him. Find him quick, then send him here, I got a few nice ones I'll be more than happy to sell him....

I wish people would just keep their trap shut when telling people how much something is worth. 9/10 have NO IDEA. 9/10 don't realize that 3k for a Palmer they saw online, was for a model 20, not an I. The Szamboti for 25k is super fancy and not to be confused with your friends 4 point 4 veneer cue that was refinished by Billy Bob in his fermenter while making shine.

I hear you. I get emails from people with Rambows all the time - same thing.
 
I called him the first time he listed it on eBay . Young guy and he want's $6,000 for it ,which isn't out of line compared to the 2 I bought! I wouldn't sell it for $4000 and I doubt you would either. I would be looking for $7500 with the windows and extra shafts! Am I wrong? Ron

Just a loser

I talked with this guy on the phone who has listed it now 3 times. Each time I was the high bidder and he just cancels it at the last moment. Ive offered to meet him in person to make the transaction and the last 2 times he said he would get back to me.

with all due respect to Barry... he is a businessman 1st and he needs to make money like everybody else and it is not in his best interest to tell somebody what a "Gus" is actually worth, unless its one in his possession...

If somebody has 4 Real Gus's for 800-1000 each let me know; YOU'VE GOT MONEY...

also, if any Real Rambows are out there that folks are willing to part with for less than Obama spends on dinner; PM me, we will chat about it...

I was told not to bid on it as it has a crack in the forearm. :cool:

I dont know if it is true or not, but I was warned by a closest of friends.

Like you have heard many times before, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

If anyone has interest in this cue, I recommend sending it to a third party with option to refusal.

I have a Rambow that was featured in Pool and Billiards magazine. I dont know what Obama spends.

stay clear of this cue!!!!!!

This Szam. IS cracked right below the joint which will require a total rebuild of the nose. I get this information from somebody that has seen the cue first hand and has owned quite a few Szam's. In fact, this is what his current playing cue is, a nice hoppe Szam. I asked about the cue today to see if he saw it on Ebay, he said "whoever wins this cue will be hot". If you would like more information on my source, PM me and I will give you his # and you can talk to him first hand. If you have bid on this cue, I would consider retracting the bid. I have no interest in this cue, I just wanted to put this out there so nobody gets a bad deal.

thanks for the heads up; will also see if seller will consider an escrow type option and what paypal/ebay will do if anything...
 
get out of the auction

Trust me on this one. The person I know that looked at the cue has the money to buy the cue outright. He also likes to collect Szam.'s and play with them. If says the cue is cracked, you can bet your last dollar that it is cracked. He does cue repair and sales for a living, ownes a retail store, and has been in the industry since the early 70's. I have also never known him to be dishonest about anything. Protect yourself and your money.
 
Why don't the interested parties just ask the guy through ebay if it is cracked, based on other's knowledge of the cue. If he says yes, you know what you are getting. If it comes not as described, and he says it's fine, your funds will be returned at some point. They freeze that amount of his Paypal, you provide proof of return shipping, and you are done. Also, in this ad, he states it will sell this time. We shall see. Well, I went ahead and posed the concerns to him in the form of a question, and requested he post my question along with his answer as to whether or not the cue is damaged. Perhaps someone should have asked sooner. The answer may help protect a buyer in case it is in a different condition than described.

Cue is now at $5650. still would be reasonable if not cracked.
I know i paid a lot more for mine that looks very close but i know that Barry did the re-finish.
