The Gus that won't go away

follow the link in the O/P ... the guy put up a detailed explanation as to why
he backed out before and why he will follow through this time...

15 bids and current price is at: US $3,050.00 at the time of this posting... NO RESERVE

*Gus Szamboti Custom Pool Cue*
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110668575961=

I will be the guy winning it for 4k if I can get it for that... that's my budget...

with all due respect to Barry... he is a businessman 1st and he needs to make money like everybody else and it is not in his best interest to tell somebody what a "Gus" is actually worth, unless its one in his possession...

If somebody has 4 Real Gus's for 800-1000 each let me know; YOU'VE GOT MONEY...

also, if any Real Rambows are out there that folks are willing to part with for less than Obama spends on dinner; PM me, we will chat about it...

Shows it went for 7300+ to a new Ebayer with a 1 transaction rating, as of today is back up due to non-paying bidder, didnot see that coming.:grin-square:

What the??

OK...This time I'm gonna sell it!! for sure..for sure..for sure..FOR SURE!! This guy is unbelievable...Literally!!

I wish there had been pics of the "cracks" just to see what the damage was. I wouldnt need 4 shafts either. I would sell 2 of them and keep the other 2 with the cue. I know you could get a good penny for the shafts(provided that they are good). Will check to see how this transaction turns out.

Finally, it's sold and we won't be seeing it again

Anyone here win this beauty?

I contacted the seller several times, and I'm not convinced he can lick postage stamps.

gone in 60...ummmm....months? lol

It may not be the last time we see it. I am sure if the new owner knows what to look for, it will be back. I just hope the buyer used a CC.

I try my best to desribe what I have for sale honestly. Most times, I will make it sound far worse than the flaws might be. I figure if a buyer likes the cue described this way, they should love it when they open the shipping package up and hit a few.

AZ may need a tread dedicated to "bad cues". Pictures of cues that may be fake, broke, or just junk could be archived there. Just a quick reference for potential buyers to research cues with issues. This may save a few good folks hard earned money.

Here is the feedback from whom ever purchased this cue

I've known this cue for 20+ years. I don't know the person that sold it on ebay, but I know the original owner as well as the second owner . This cue, if fake, is a really good fake and has dupped alot of knowledgable people over the years. I honestly believe it is a Boti and the buyer is pissed(with cause) because he bought what is rumored to be a broken/repaired cue.

A book could be written about this cue, complete with the plot to steal it 20 years ago, and what was done to recover it. Drug dealers, disguises, threats made. People have done things that put their lives in jeopardy over this supposed fake cue.

Not for nothing but there is a shipping label shown in one of the photos. Maybe getting in touch with the name on that label would shed some light on the situation.

I'm not sure that Ed is still living. I used to see him pretty often but quit playing for several years and haven't heard or seen anything of him for at least 15 years. He was the original owner and from what I was told, owned several Boti's. The Label could have come from a different cue. He has owned alot of highend cues over the years and knowing him, I personally feel the cue is authenic.

My Gus looks very much like this one. If it is a fake it is a great copy. Only Barry would be able to confirm one way or the other if it was real or not.
Unless i had LOA i wouldn't want this cue, plus even if it is real there may still be something structurally wrong with it.

It IS a GUS.

It does have a cracked and repaired forearm.

Can I be any more clear?

UGH

So the guy who bought it wasn't completely ripped off. It still might play really well but it's only worth a fraction of what it should be.The cue should go to Barry for a complete repair, that would raise the price considerably.

I already looked at it

I don't mean to hurt anyone here. The thruth is all I care about.
This is a very good COPY, fake, tribute, whatever you'd like to call it.

I checked the cue out and I have a page of notes on the cue that
tell me what is wrong with it.

Plus, It does have a crack in it from the joint screw turned in too deep.

I don't have a horse in this race, but I thought that my opinion was asked
for and that this was important to write.

Thank you,
Barry Szamboti

"And now you know...the rest of the story"

So will it go away now?

Classic dilemma. Ken says it is, Barry says its not.

What to do?

LOL, I was told it was a Gus cue from a knowledgable person, but at the end of the day if Barry says no, then I would obviously defer to him.

Like Barry, I dont have a horse in the race, I just didnt want anyone from AZ to get it and it be a ripoff, as I was told it was.

No hurt feelings on my part.

Just glad that nobody that read the thread got burned. No hard feelings here at all.

I totally see how it happens. The cue really looks like a Gus, you get told a Gus, its a Gus. Right up until the point where Barry says its not a Gus.

It's way easy to have a sense of humor about the situation when none of us is holding some cracked fake and wondering now what to do.

Thanks

Kevin
