The Hardest Shot In Pool For Me!

I always seem to struggle with the Guilt Shot.

Def - You luck in a shot, and the very next shot you shoot is the guilt shot!

Does anyone else struggle with this one?

It's not a problem for me, but I have missed the so-called "guilt shot" on occasion. There are a lot (and I mean a LOT :o ) more shots that I struggle with than that one though. Playing in the APA for a few years as I have will cure you from feeling guilty about "slopping" one in every once in a while. It's certainly gonna happen against you now and then, so you better not look the gift horse in the mouth when you get a lucky roll or two  !!!

The guys I play regularly are so doggone lucky that I'm
tickled to death when I s*it one in.:D

A hard shot for many players is the shot AFTER they make a real tough shot. You tend to let up a little (relax) and dog the shot or the shape. Ever happen to you? :) Uh Huh, I thought so!

The worst kind of "guilt" pool is having your ol' lady ask, just as you're leaving the house to go to league, "It'd sure be nice if you'd get some things done around the house once in a while." Thanks, honey.

The only solution I have for all types of "guilt" pool is to accept each shot as the only shot there is, cuz it is. Shoot now, feel guilty later.

Starting a thread labeled with a negative affirmation probably doesn't help...and come to think of it, posting on such a thread probably doesn't either! Ackkkk!

I thought I was the only one around that did that! hehe. Another shot I have issues with is when I play shape out of line a bit, and even though the next shot is makable, I get mad at myself for the other mistake and dog the shot.

How about the half-hearted combo on the 9?

My shot

I will start with the shot I shoot better than almost anyone I play is a long very very thin cut shot.

I have lacik done a few years ago, and I now have 13/20 vision in both eyes, I see the ball so well, I smile, when someone leaves me this shot, expecting me not to take it.

I used Buddy Hall's technic I read in a magazine about 2-3 years ago. Since doing these 2 things I have taken a shot I avoided to a shot that I look forward to. Maybe going from a 20-25% to damn near 90+% that I make that ball. I use this shot as a push shot often, as most would not shoot it and if they do not make it, I think it gives me a significant advantage.

The shot I struggle with the most, and I have not had any success in getting coaching is a slow forward roll for position. I think it has more to do with confidence and table time, but the local shortstops and pros in my home town shoot this shot perfectly and I struggle.

The other shot that I dread is a ball hanging and needing to shape quite a way aways from that ball. IF it was an inch or so further from the pocket shape would be a breeze.

Imo...

When I divide the number of shots that go in that should not have by the number of shots that don't go in that should have I invariably come up with zero...a wash.
That door swings both ways.
Don't confess (even to yourself) until you are accused.:)

No prob with the guilt shot at all , when I Luck something in I'm usually like " 'Bout dang time I get some payback for getting screwed on all those other shots ! "

That and then just walk it off like you meant it. ;)

Ken,

On that last shot, I see so many players hit it wrong, even good ones. With a ball hanging, the best option is nearly always to hit the rail first and then the ball. You can control the cue ball and get good shape. It's easy to come back down table hitting it that way. With accuracy too!

Once you learn this shot, it will become your first option most of the time.

yup, "same player" shot is what I call that.

Yes!!! I too feel guilty for having slopped in balls.

The real bad thing is that my opponents have no problem slopping in their own shots. In fact I have guys that think they should get paid double for a slopped in 9!

My guess:when one misses the shot ,after a hard shot, could possibly be due to the drainage of mental energy by the hard shot and lack of time to recouperate that energy needed for the next shot. But the champions do not have problem in charging their batteries very quickly.

My guilt shot is when my opponent makes a foul and gives me ball in hand.I call it free loading and I usually do not like free loading. While playing one pocket with ball in hand I usually miss 7 out of 10 shots even if the object ball was only 10-12 inches from the cue ball.I have been working hard to change my attitude and not consider ball in hand as free loading:cool:

Jay called it right. I think the incredible shot you never make is hard to follow. I become so focused on trying to absorb that shot and decifer how I did it that I lose track of the shot I'm shooting,

I know what you mean, but your math is wrong. If the two numbers are the same, dividing one by the other will produce one, not zero.;) :D

Honestly, when I slop a shot in.. It makes me try even harder, bear down if you will, on the rest of the rack. Why? Because nothing pisses your opponent off more than you running out off a lucky shot.

And quite often, having your opponent hacked off is the first step to beating them. I'm not going to do anything unsportsmanlike, but I will try to take advantage if they get a little weak for one reason or another.

Plus, bearing down intently to get out when you slopped one in is an easy way to turn a negative into a positive. I see the opportunity to run out after a lucky shot as a very positive development in a match.

I think others do not do well after a slop shot simply because they are letting negative thoughts into their head. People, you HAVE to find a way to make every single trip to the table a positive experience.
