The latest view of pool in popular culture.

stopped watching after a minute

imho... i just hope pool doesn't become mainstream like poker has become.
part of what i find appealing about pool is the stigma of the sport and how in the mainstream view it appears dark and mysterious.
i'm sure that a large part of it has to be the gambling aspect of pool. with terms and slang such as hustlers and sharks its kinda easy to see how pool might be viewed in a negative way

rediculous

OK I watched the whole thing,it reminds me why I do not watch TV.

The entire pool class setup was just preposterous. The production company probably called one of those pool table/juke box companies to have them set up the pool room.It looks like this particular sit-com? is willing to use a pretty thin premise for an episode.

I watched the whole thing. It reminded me of the old Fresh Prince of Bel-Air episode where Will loses his car at the pool hall, except not even that good.

Community isn't exactly my favorite show to begin with. But keep in mind, we see everything that is ridiculous about it, but the average person just sees some people playing pool. Its not that bad.

Agreed...people who don't play probably found it amusing. Especially the bits stolen from color of money. Like it or not, I guess "werewolves of london" has become pool's theme song.

I have always felt that if pool was more popular that there would be more cash...

I think you are looking at this game through the eyes of a hobbiest there is another point of veiw to consider. Many people in this world depend on a living from cue sports. It is our duty as players to try and make our lives better by growing other peoples love of the game. In other words putting asses in seats...

I love pool!! Thing is I also love getting paid to play it. If it doesnt grow I don't get any more pay...that makes jack a dull boy.

Don't you think that the top players in the world deserve a base salary?

If you want oscar winning performance, go watch The Hustler or The Color of Money. Its a typical american comedy, the writers will try to squeeze as many laughs as possible, whether its pool, senor Chang's contempt, or how to pronounce Bagel.

BTW, where can I get a copy of this?
Pool as it was meant to be played, with a full range of motion and optimal comfort.

to many cons to this
i think too many balls would be visible
i cant stand playin someone even if just their ass crack is sticking out
you dont wanna be sitting directly behind the guy whos down on a shot.
ever have to stop playing to remove a hair from the cueball ? that could get grosser than normal
you dont want be down on a shot and have a guy directly in front of you either.

Hmmm, dont flame me to bad, I thought it was hilarious. But I happen to like the show anyways. I think anything that portrays pool in a good light is good. You never know it might inspire a bunch of people to play pool and maybe one of them will like it enough to actually put in the time and get good. Its not like they showed pool in a shady or slimy light! I mean yea the shots were bullsh** and the music, haha! But it is still postive for the sport!

The video presented pool in a very benign way. Entertainment isn't truth,or stating an opinion one way or the other,it is a vehicle. When pool is a part of that vehicle,it may be used in a positive or negative context. That's the viewers choice. Pool has a lot of cash in it,that's why it is one of America's longest surviving industries. Tens of Millions of people pick up a cue and bang balls around with no more devotion than drinking that next beer. They, and over a Million League Player's drop Billions of Quarter's into Bar Boxes every year. I chose that because they contribute more revenue overall that Large Table play. If you make your living from Cue Sports, that is wonderful. That means you work every day to stay one step ahead of the competition. What did you mean by "putting asses in seats..."? If you are talking spectator's,I am not certain that's the way. Putting people at the table, educating them to further their enjoyment, and giving them what they need to grow with their new found interest is perhaps a suitable option. Then lastly, you asked if (we)I think that the top players deserve a base salary? No. Because that means they would have to be unified enough to agree to such terms under the control of an institution that would determine it. Deserve has Nothing to do with it. They do it like you do it...earn it.

Wow Chevy Chase's career has really hit a new low. He was an A list comedy star in the 80's now look at him. That was really horrible.... I fast forwarded through most of it.

Carl...tap, tap, tap...for a well-thought-out, accurate, and eloquent response! I can't tell you how many "champions" I have met who believe the world "owes" them a living, just because they are good at what they do!

Thanks Scott. That is very kind of you. You and I both know that our wonderful association with pool gives us much more than we can possibly give to it. We do it,and that is our expression of "Love". Money is a by-product of success. Again,Thank You My Friend.
P.S. Little Miss Rousey did well representing over in Taiwan. Linda and I are so proud of her and what she's done.

I saw the show and was certainly not impressed by it. I consider it typical of todays very unremarkable television sitcoms.
I believe that many of us here at AZB are sometimes overly sensitive with regard to the public perception of pool, and pool players, because to us the cue sports are such a serious undertaking; not only as a hobby, but for many here a way to make a living.
We invest large amounts of money in not only our equiptment, but sometimes an even larger investment in the time it takes to acquire the skills necessary to play the game properly. It would only be natural then that a poorly written and poorly executed comedy skit would anger us.
I say not to worry. That particular show, or any others like it for that matter, will not be remembered any longer than the week it takes to get to the next one.

And neither will this reply.
