Yup. Many of the top pool players are pretty good at half-masses, including Butera, Schmidt and Harriman that I've seen. It's a very standard shot at carom billiards, which is where Efren may have learned it. Players will cut a ball to the right and also bring the cue ball to the right, for example, or shoot a ball straight in and take the cue ball to the side at speed. That was a great shot made to look easy by Efren. He actually shot a half masse to hold the cue ball.

There's one better than this. Watch Efren's kill shot on the orange 5 in the final game of the 2005 IPT King of the Hill match against Mike Sigel. Even Mike was so awed he mumbled "Oh, my God, what was that?", quite audibly, goading Efren to look up and smile after the shot.

What are we looking for exactly? I know someone mentioned Sigel saying something and Efren smiling. It looked like the cue ball may have kind of changed its path, because of the spot, and Sigel was *****ing about it. I could be dead wrong though.

Your exactly right, he hit it fuller so the rock would die and killed it with english. remember that night i played Ming for 5 hours? did you see the "Efren" style kill shot I made on the 7? I think you were there, infact I know you were. It as the best kill shot I made in years, I might never top it. Even Ming said "WTF??? who you think you are?". Every dog has his day, I have tried that shot 100 times and never got close again, Efren does that stuff at will-BETTER that any other player alive IMO.
Here's another great kill shot, even commented on by Nick Varner. The amazing thing about this shot is that it's hill-hill, and the *distance* that he has to kill it from. If there were any accidental side-spin, he'd have masse'd the ball and missed. Not that's what I call accurate cue action and confidence!
