The most racks ran

Paul Turner from Georgia is said to have run 26 racks of nineball on a barbox playing Don Ballard.

Lassiter himself said his high run was 16 racks of 9-Ball. And it was in a money game. I'm more impressed with that then 20 odd racks on a bar table.

Keith and Jimmy Reid used to run out all night long on bar tables until the suckers quit playing. A spot meant little to them. Buddy also could run ten racks on a small table like nothing. But Matlock may have been the king of the small boxes, especially playing Eight Ball. I wonder how many racks of Eight Ball he has strung on a bar table.

Richie claimed to have run 19 racks of 9-Ball, when he was practicing at Congress Bowl. And I believe him. Of course, it's not quite the same as a money game or tournament. But Richie could sure string racks, six or seven were no big deal when he was gambling. Even Cole and Keith would give him a wide berth out here. No one wanted any of his 9-Ball action for years. At least not playing even on the big table.

As for tournament 9-Ball, Earl is the all time King. I never saw anyone who could string racks like the Earl of the late 80's to mid 90's. He was putting sixes and sevens on everyone.

I got an accustats tape where Jimmy Mataya asks Danny DiLiberto what the most ever racks of 10-ball ran was. Diliberto says that Detroit Whitey ran 9 straight racks of 10-ball. IMO I think that is stronger than 13 or 14 racks of 9-ball considering the break factor of a 10-ball rack.
I have seen a 16 yr old run 8 racks, straight, of 10-ball with ease, on an 8 foot table. He was playing the ghost for $20 a rack...

Whitey did that in a ring game in Johnston City in the 60s against the best players in the world. When Whitey broke on the tenth game, the cue ball jumped the table, and Whitey immediately quit.

Wow. Now that's a strong frontrunner!

A guy that Strickland lived with said he ran twenty something straight 9-ball racks in practice. I can't remember, 23 maybe? I do remember for sure the first digit was a 2, which made it a little unnecessary to remember the second digit because my 7 was a little short. I'd bet a million dollars he wasn't lying.

Now with Earl I actually think this is possible. I don't know if it's true, but I think it's not a big stretch.

ron cook, "Bucktooth's" brother here ..... Califonia

When I was 17 years of age I ran 12 racks of 6 ball @ $5/game and my opponet quit and I had not missed when my opponet quit. A few years later I ran 6 racks of eight ball and 2 racks of One Pocket back to back.

Recently at age 58 I ran 71 balls in all in 1 pocket without missing.
(I set up a "L" shape pattern around one corner pocket & shot all the balls in the same corner pocket and set them back up again after I ran 15 balls).

Try that drill and let me know if anyone can run more than 71 balls without
missing in 1 corner pocket?

Pilipinos used to practicing running out with fifteen balls where they are more used to
i heard efren running out 3 during practice and one rack of which is using left handed entirely then he stopped

this seems to be more difficult

wow - hard to make a ball on the break in 6-ball.

Kilroy used to talk of Bucktooth - did you know Kilroy?

I know most of the good players in the San Francisco Bay Area and the
players that go to Reno each year. Unfortunantly, I don't know then all my name. Where does Kilroy play and how well does he play? Bucktooth hangs
out in San Ramon, CA at "Crown Billiards" previously name was "Felts."

I see you are in Florida, a long way from California ...... "Bucktooth" is
like another "Minnisota Fats" here in CA, well known ...... and matches
up to win.

But the real question is.....Can you beat your brother?

Hello Jay ..... rc here

Let me answer that one ..... About 10 years ago I played him on his table which has tight pockets and he beat me playing one pocket 21 games in a
row. At the time my stroke was all over the place and my eyes were failing me and I had not been playing. No one in the world could do that I
will take that bet from anyone and they could all line up.

About the same time a few months later I played him one pocket & nine
ball on a table in my billiard room in Castro Valley and I beat him in a race to 10 in both 9 ball and one pocket, and it was a real quiet in the room
and he was not saying much. Its amazing how great the home town
table advantage is.

Today I would say I could beat him in 9 ball but one pocket would be a battle again unless I played on my table.

Twice I drew him in a one pocket tournament, the first time I played him
I beat him, and the same day I beat George Michaels, tall Paul and I lost
to Go Away Jesse & Palmer. I ended up 4th in the tournament, John Henderson won, Billy Palmer took 2nd, Go Away Kid took 3rd & I took fourth in 1994 at California Billiards and everyone was there.

The 2nd time I played the him he beat me at Family Billiards in San Francisco playing one pocket.

Ron, I think you deserve a nickname. Why should he be the only one in the family with a cool name like Bucktooth or just "The Tooth" as Tony A. likes to call him.

Let's see, how about "Handsome Ronnie" or, I got a good one for you, "Undercover Ron". Now that one fits. I don't like RC. It's too much like RA and you are nothing like him.

Wow, I haven't heard "go away" Jesses name in awhile...He came to Modesto with a couple guys before and got matched up against my dad, my dad won but that Jesse could play a little.....................Marc

Kilroy, Roy Kozlowsky, passed about a year ago.

He was from Detroit (where I am originally from) but also travelled a lot - he may have encountered Bucktooth on the road somewhere or Bucktooth may have come through "The Rack" at some point? I can't recall but I know he spoke of him as a great player/hustler/character...Roy had a thousand war stories - I could listen for hours...

Kilroy is a prominent figure in my first book, Banking With The Beard with the feature, Kilroy's Rules Of The Road.
