Nobody 18 or under or 21? I think that is sad myself. How is pool ever going to evolve and take off if children aren't exposed? I started playing when I was about 15 years old seriously, and if I ever got the chance to go to the US open then, and was refused at the door, I probably would seriously develop tears. It is like telling kids they aren't allowed to watch a baseball game or see Lebron James play. What a joke. I understand that pool is a different atmosphere, but I think most kids that 'willingly' went to the US Open would not be disruptive and would even be a great way to market the US Open. Sorry for the long post, but this really disturbed me when I read the initial post.

I Agree with you there although maybe they could have made it no children under 10.

Would Wu Cha Ching been allowed in?
Won the world 9-ball when he was 16 years old iirc.

This was just a real bad decision on someone's part. The only baby that is going to be brought to a pool event is one that has mammy or pappy playing in it. Little Miss Maple Street USA isnt going to be bringing her infant or 2 year old to a pool tournament.

Pool wives and hubbies will be the only ones and they know better when a kid is out of line relative to the tourny than the public. I once saw Johnny's wife hustle the baby out of the balcony (vegas) after a couple of low decibel yelps and IM sure it could barely be heard at the table.

The point is the only thing the rule/sign accomplished was to piss-off a player and past US Open Champion. An unruly attendee of any age can always be asked to leave. No sign required. I think there may be some background none of us are privvy to in this instance. Even still, poor judgment.

PS_ if the child had been there earlier and was acting up bad, i take some of it back.

I bet if a five year old had put up $600 for an entry fee then he would have been allowed to play. :-)

Please..

Do SOME research before you hit enter. This was covered days ago. I don't think it's an unreasonable policy. There were plenty of kids there over six so the future of pool should be ok.

Excellent post and I agree wholeheartedly.

The times that I saw the children in the tournament room, they were well behaved. I did hear from someone working with one of the media outlets there that apparently Barry had seen the children outside that night and one was crying and acting up. It was because of this that Barry decided to not allow them in.

I'm of the opinion that he was entirely too quick to judge. Rodney's wife knows better than to take 2 unruly children into the tournament room. I'm also of the belief that the children know to behave in the tournament room setting. Barry should've waited to see what would happen when the children walked through the door.

As for the apology that Barry gave to Rodney... I don't really see any sincerity in it. If InsidePOOL had not posted the story and the forum members here not flayed Barry alive for doing what he did, I'm of the opinion that the apology would not have come. Barry was pretty rude and adamant about the whole situation until he got home and read these forums.

Watchez, the children appear to be 3 & 5 yrs of age. After watching the 3 yr old behave in the tournament room earlier in the week and watching Hennessee act like a 3 yr old all week, I think they chose to keep the wrong people out of the tournament.

Someone can't spell babies.
Aren't all babies under the age of 6?

Well he could have meant people acting like babies AND children under six but since none of the grownups who acted like babies were barred I guess that wasn't the intention.

Ryan McCreesh was almost barred. Outside of Rodney's kids, Ryan became the closest to getting barred that I saw.

Unbelievable

Welcome back Smorg....you were missed.

Ok, from a woman with children, IMO. This is/was a professional event. (No, children or animals (at the event). Children being under 13. I feel "teens" should be mature enough not to be running around or making noise.

There is too much money riding to let one kid or loose dog change the outcome of being the US or World's best player.

I love my kids and wish they could go but that just is not the correct thing to do.

Now Doug we are going to have to talk about this muzzle the wife thing dude.

To all you naysayers out there who are so negative toward children "possibly being disruptive" What parent at a professional sporting event like the U.S. open just allow that to happen?. Any decent parent would remove that child. And if they didn't then they could be asked to leave. Simple.
As a father of 7, grandfather of 6 and a room owner I take offense to that attitude. My children have attended too many tourneys to count from a young age all the way up to adulthood. Never a problem.

NOW SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW MANY PROFESSIONAL GOLF TOURNAMENTS DO NOT ALLOW CHILDREN?
And they are playing for a lot more money than a pool player has seen in his life. Try telling a golf champion he could not have his kids there watching him on the final hole. And beside that, golfers are used to quiet, pool players are not so all the more reason you would "think" they might not allow children at a golf event, but they do.

As for you Watchez, I gave away 4 daughters and in my wildest dreams I would not imagine barring children from a wedding or reception. One of the greatest things to be part of. And so we do not allow the grandparents either so they can babysit? Are u nuts? People like u is why there is so much domestic violence in this world. Your attitude sucks young man.

This site is Great isn't it  ....... We all have opinions and we are entitled to our own (within reason). This is a Forum, not a rule making session for the Board of Directors.

I still stand. I have 4 children and I would not take the two youngest ones. But hey, that's me and my opinion. Thanks for sharing. :)

First, have you ever seen a golf tournament where Phil Mickelson's 3 year old was sitting on the edge of the green? No, they are back in the tent and come out after daddy has won. You can be the best parent in the world (which most of America is not) and not control the sudden outburst of a child. Even if it didnt happen, as a player I would be concerned and distracted as to when it would happen. That is a shark enough that is not needed. Rodney could be father of the year. If so, he would have the opportunity to spend time with his pre kindergarten kids outside of his championship tournament play. I wonder what my boss would say if I showed up with kids on an important day at work.

Second, I am glad that you enjoyed your weddings. As a guest, I would loathe every minute of it. Kids running rampid while their parents get drunk. I went to one wedding where there were no seats cause so many people felt the need to bring their 3 year old. One lady put her diaper rash cream right on the table as everyone was eating. How appetizing. Just what a 4 year old child needs to see - daddy going to the bar getting his drink on. Remember, there are also always two sets of grandparents for a child - the other side can watch or they can use the standard babysitter. Unless they take their kids every where they go - including the bar on Friday night (which I have seen when I used to bartend and I would immediately tell people that their kids would have to leave. You would be amazed at how many times people wanted to bring their newborns into a smokey bar. Great parents)

As far as Golf events go I have seen many kids at them. Just judging by looks they were 6 and older. Heck at the BMW Championship Sergio Garcia tossed a ball to one of them. :D

FYI the purse for this tourney was 1 mil
