Honestly, I'm a liar.

The tension is building between the Amsterdam and Society gangs.

First, Amsterdam gang members branch off to form their own gang. They call it Society. Gang symbol still unknown. They form their gang on new Diamond Pro-ams. Amsterdam gang then gets new balls, racks, house cues and recovers tables in direct retaliation.

Next, the Society gang waves more league money around... to the tune of $10k. The Amsterdam gang responds with $20k.

What's gonna happen next????

In most cases the one with the deeper pockets wins. Johnnyt

I just posted this in jest, but its nice to see them upping the game a little. This is great for NYC players and honestly, I thank both rooms for the new tables, racks, balls and cash.

Ok as a league player for Amsterdam's Monday Night Straight Pool League I have had the pleasure of playing with some of the top straight pool players on some of the best equipment around. I have not played at Society of yet so I can not comment but a little healthy competition is great for us the players. It forces both parties to keep their "game" in check and at the best it can be.

I will say however I do look forward to playing on some Diamond tables at Society one day.

Had a chance to played a society...the diamond table plays really nice and the environment is great for competitive pool.

I'm thinking the "Dead Rabbits" will discuss a gang war, choosing knives as teh weapons of choice.

Rivalries aside. This is good news for NYC players. If the leagues are properly scheduled, there isn't any reason why someone can't join both leagues. As the poolhalls are in walking distance of each other.

If you use google maps, there is something like over 10 Starbucks on the route between the two poolhalls.

And 66 chase banks!

No, this is a great thing for us players. $30k added to the mix will make this a little more serious. I should start practicing!

If i got this right, I would give the nod to Society on Principle. ABC had all those years to step up and never did til they were forced to by Society who initiated the big $$ change.

Isn't Robles at Amsterdam? Correct me if I'm wrong. If he is, who do they have at Society?

Two halls enter, one hall leaves! :D

League players wars .

Now this is funny ,
Ok to all that don't know Jude was a league player at Abc for a very long time ,Oh and Jhon Smith was also, he's a very good semi pro .

Then a poolroom for league players opened that use to be a poolroom for hustlers and gambling ,now it a upscale "League player Room".

Now this is starting to get good ..

Ok to all my NYC pool players open another poolroom in NYC like Chelsa was ,24/7 action then i'll move back . ( lol )

Keep me in the loop so when i come back up in September , I'll have something to do for fun..

Hey Jude Good luck .NYC needs some new blood ,and you are it ..

P.s tell Chris L i said Hey from the south..

The question should be, what are other poolhalls doing to attract and retain customers? If any Society Billiards is a bigger competitive threat to the other nearby poolhalls, such as Slate, which have no concern for their poolplaying customers.

Last time I was at Slate, I played on a table with black cloth and didn't appear to have any overhead lights. When I started to rack, then I noticed was given a set that was mixture of Centennials and Aramiths. I had two 4 balls, but no 9-ball. I went back to the front desk, ask to turn on the overhead lights, and exchange for new set of ballsl. The lady at the desk told me there were no overhead lights to turn on, was indifferent to my concern and went back to her business.

There is another poolhall in Queens, where the cloths haven't been changed in years. The owner brought in table repair guys and ordered them to turn and rotate the table cloths, instead of replacing. I know of loyal customers who have personally pleaded with the owner that they'll pay for new Simonis on their favorite tables.

I will never go back to Slate. It isn't a pool room. No pool player is going to Slate period. They do not compete with real pool rooms such as ABC and Society imo

The only time i went to Slate, I had a similar situation with the balls. They gave me a mixed set of Centennials and the low end Aramiths. When i went back to the Counter, the girl had no idea what i was talking about and im sure it wasnt he first day.

I see now ABC is now spinning the $20K to be in honor of their 20th anniversary. Right!

At that time Broadway Billiards closed, and I was told about Slate's $4 per hour special. In all fairness, I went back there a couple of time to confirm their indifference wasn't just one-time experience. Their food is excellent.

As part of Amsterdam Billiards 20th anniversary celebration, daily powerplay prices have been rolled back to $15.

Back to the matter of $10K and $20K, if the two house leagues are offered on different nights, I can see tons of players signing up for both hoping for a chance to win in either.
