The positives of pool streams

I am sick to death of all of the negative threads about pool streams. Cry babies whining because they don't like the way someone commentates or that there isn't a commentator or there aren't enough cameras or they don't stream the match you want to see or their computer screws up but it is somehow the fault of the person streaming. Honest to goodness some of you people are incredibly ignorant about how the streaming works and incredibly selfish and quite simply annoying with your whining.

That being said, how about we focus on the positives?? Some of you should be grateful that we even have these streams for you to whine about. Never thought of that, did you?

I am grateful to everyone that has or does do streaming. Because of the streamers, I am able to watch a tournament that I might never have been able to see.

Sometimes I get to see champions and sometimes I get to see amateurs and sometimes I luck out and get to see a friend playing on the stream.

I like that the commentary is varied. I very much enjoy having a pro player in the booth because of their insight. Sometimes the person plays it just like the person in the booth called it and sometimes you learn a new way to possibly shoot a particular shot by listening to the thought process of someone that can do it better than yourself. I also like that sometimes someone that is a member on the forums but isn't a high calibur player will get in the booth. They might not be able to commentate on the match so much but they can interact with the chat room on a more personal level because they know or are familiar with most watching the stream.

I like that sometimes we get to see a little bit of everything. We can always count on Lenny to bring us some one pocket, the Seminols to bring us 10 ball and various regional tours to bring us 9 ball.

There is also a wide variety of players to watch. We have the beautiful and talented ladies of the Socal tour, lots of amateur & pro am tours that show us both men and women.

I love the fact that I can still watch a pool tournament even though I live in a place that doesn't have any. If it weren't for the streamers, I would not be able to see any tournament play unless I was able to travel a great distance at a large cost to go watch one.

To all of the streamers, I say thank you for allowing me to continue to enjoy the world of pool even though I no longer live near the hot spots of action and tournaments.

Well said.

I agree.

Thank you, streamers. You are appreciated, at least by some. Probably by more than you think.

You nailed it Urack. Thank anybody that takes there time an GIVES us a pool stream. I for one are more than grateful. Thank you streamers. Skip

+1. The quality and availability of live streaming pool has progressed so much in a short time. I remember how excited I was about some of the initial TAR, Bigtruck, Accu-stats...streaming matches and looking forward for *gasp* weeks for a big mach. With all of the live streams and subsequent archived matches now, it seems one can find good quality videos of matches between great players at any time. While I, like most, have my favorite streamers, commentators...I find it very difficult to be negative about those who are putting a lot of time/effort into providing what are often free productions.

Exactly! I only have one favorite in the booth and that is John Schmidt, lol you never know what that young man is going to say but you can bet that it will be a funny zinger of some sort. That coupled with his knowledge, how can you go wrong??

I enjoy most everyone that gets in the booth for different reasons and appreciate the various personalities. I do have a couple that I don't care for in the booth but I can honestly say that I have never complained about them. If they bother me that much, I can always use the mute button which will allow me to still enjoy the pool that I am getting to see thanks to the streamer that is bringing it to me.

The Livestreams haven't hit their stride yet. The best is yet to come.

I wonder how many of you send out an email, a tweet, or a text message to your friends who play pool to let them know that a particular match is on and what the link is?

The streams are great for different reasons for each of us. I like to see particular players matched up with particular players and the livestreams give us all a chance to see our favorite players.

I really like the idea that there are so many matches in archives by the livestreamers. I don't always watch the livestream but it is great when I can go back into the achives and view a match.

Yeah, the whiners sometimes get petty but some of them don't realize that they are stepping on the very toes of those who are bringing them the livestreams. It will never be a perfect world but I appreciate all of the people that make an effort to bring the pool matches to the world via live streaming.

Want to add to the love here, group hug for all the streamers :clapping::canoodle:

Greenie for the opening post! I love streaming. Sure it has it's shortcomings, but it is a technology in it's infancy...

Well said and thanks for a positive thread. It is one of the things that keeps my interest up for the game. In turn it makes me want to play more and that gets me to put my dollars into the industry.

Thanks to all the pioneers of streaming, these folks are out there busting there butts for very little $$$. I hope to be able to help much more in the near future and I hope others will also.

Thanks to all who make these streams happen.

I can take a hint Urackm, I made you feel old in the other thread so now you have to crack on my commentating!!!

I'll throw in here too. And as for the commentary, I have found that stream commentary while varied, is at its worst still way better than anything on most televised events, with the possible exception of Matchroom stuff (but they are streamers at heart).

Keep up the good work, guys.

There have been heaps of positives on several of the streams.

Someone is focusing on the negative........the OP. This thread is innately biased, and rather blind to the actual situation.

Bias is bias, whether it is overly positive or negative. The streams are what they are. Sometimes the streamer is just out for Number 1 and gets the feedback appropriate.

Just this week there have been a lot of positives. Lenny put in great work with the One Pocket event in Cali. Every time I popped in, I saw the donation bar fill up. People were very appreciative of the massive amount of time and effort he put into that stream. BigTruck continues to get great praise for the Ultimate 10 ball stream.

Likewise, the Inside Pool stream of the Ultimate 10 ball wasn't nearly as praised, due to some rather fitting critiques of the commentary. The issues with some of the recent PPV's not fulfilling their part of the bargain have received criticism as well. When people pay for a service, they expect that service. When that is done well, then there isn't a lot of negative feedback, but when it isn't, it is appropriate.

It isn't helpful to just ignore the negatives and 'focus on the positives'. The negatives need to be said. Sometimes they aren't done in a constructive manner, but then again, the positive feedback is often perilous too. People often times get fired, not for the negative feedback, but positive feedback that doesn't reflect their ability. Positive feedback creates positive expectations, and there really isn't any type of feedback more damaging that false positive feedback.

What is really necessary is accurate feedback, in a manner that is most helpful. Generally speaking, as long as both parties are fair and forthright, and willing to work together, the situation ends up amiable. When it doesn't, it is usually because one or both sides has expectations and demands that are not reasonable.

Pool streamers give me something to do in the wee hours when everyone else is sleeping. I've watched a lot of great pool after midnight thanks to the guys who go out of their way to bring pool from the pool room into our houses.

You all are appreciated.

Other than the opening line, this post accurately expresses how I feel.Positive and negative feedback is necessary for continued growth and quality. The good will survive and perhaps thrive but the bad should die-Natural selection.

If I tune in to a free stream and am counted as a user I am now part of a tool for a streamer to approach potential sponsors.Nothing is free and I may want to reserve the right to express myself with an opinion good or bad.

For me it's mostly positive.
Thanks,JMuck

I remember that not too long ago - we had to wait months to see pool matches on ESPN. Most of the time, you already knew the results months earlier, but unless you were at the event, you rarely got to see the game played at the highest level.

These days, you have a choice of streams almost every day of the week. Some of us have become spoiled. For the people that constantly critique and piss and moan about how everything isn't perfect... you're right. It isn't perfect, and some of us prefer it that way. We should be grateful that people care enough to provide the streams for us - mostly for FREE. If you don't like the commentary, turn down the volume. If you don't like the chat, go full screen and your problem is solved. If you are unwilling to do that, then the way I see it, you just want something to b*tch about.

I think we've come a long way with livestreaming - and we still have a long way to go, but it's great to be able to click on a website and watch a variety of different streams whenever you want to. I think its great, and I think the people that provide that for us should be respected. JMO.

Ha! No hint towards you, I actually enjoy you in the booth. You have a good voice for it and surprisingly a little bit more knowledge than originally thought. lol

I never said to ignore the negatives. I have absolutely no problem with constructive criticism of something that is wrong and needs to be corrected. I agree with you about that. What I have a problem with is the whining. You watch enough streams, you see it all too often. The crying in chat is enough to drive someone insane.

This weekend there was someone in chat that kept begging them to stream another match on another table. They weren't happy with the fact that two great players were currently on the stream, they wanted to see the other match. I can't even peek into the chat room when TAR is at the DCC because all you see are two groups of people - the ones that are content with what is on the stream and those that incessantly demand that they switch to a different table. Then they come on here and whine about it.

Another one of my favorites is when people cannot get the stream, the problem is on their end and yet they come on here and in multiple threads they complain about the streamer. It is the streamers fault and their stream sucks because it "doesn't work". All the while it is a problem on their end. Even after they have been told by many people that the problem is on their end, they still blame the streamers. This happens WAY TOO often.

I don't think these examples fall under contructive criticism, I think they fall under nitty whining. There has been some genuine constructive criticism in some of the threads of late but there have also been a lot of whining threads. In the face of that, I decided to make a positive thread about streams. People get so wrapped up in their selfish wants that they forget that they're lucky to even have these streams to complain about in the first place. I felt the need to remind them that they have more to be grateful for than to whine about.

You said a mouthful.

I think when people have a desire to complain about a live stream, they should send the live streamer A PRIVATE EMAIL.

Live Streamers have different amounts of control over the things that go on but advertising or should I say whining about the negatives on the most popular pool forum in the world is not a very smart thing to do if you like live streaming. It discourages the live streamers who are giving up a major portion of their lives betting on the future of live streaming. They are constantly being hit with curve balls and the whines are just another form of the curve balls that they have to endure.

I would hate to see any of the pool live streamers give up this medium because they are constantly being beat down. We've already lost some of the live streamers that gave a lot of their lives.

I like what BlackJack said about us as a group. We have become SPOILED and that's the bare-bones truth and that includes me. When I sit on the computer and have the time, I have so many choices to watch pool matches I can get a headache just choosing. My first choice is always LIVE-STREAMING MATCHES and I hate to see that go away.
