The Pro Players Have Best Shot At TV

I know this sounds crazy but I think if anyone can get men's pro pool back on TV it is the pros themselves. They need and Org led by a non-playing top pro that its sole purpose is getting a 32 man pro men's tour together to sell to TV. Good leaders would be players like CJ and Allen Hopkins. There are others that would probably do good too but CJ and Allen have proven that they understand and can work with TV. Johnny A and his clan should play on the tour but have zero to do with the running of it. Johnnyt

But johnny...

It makes a bit of sense to us, coz we like pool. On the other hand though, we do not have any real idea of what it takes to get pool on tv.

As I recall, the WPBA had to pay ESPN to get itself there...and was responsible for the production too.

I think the first step is having something formally organized. Then that organization can work on getting TV deals, promoting itself etc. The key is not going too big too fast. That's why stuff like the WPBL and especially the IPT flamed out. Also, I like the idea of 32 person tour. You could even do something like have the first round be 64 and half made up of regular tour members and half event qualifiers with some sponsor's exemptions thrown in.

Getting closer. I think it could start with 32 "tour cards". And that is all they hand out. And in order to get one, you would have to maintain a points lead over one of the 32 for x number of tournaments. Or to keep your tour card, you have to maintain a certain number of points.

So if you have a tour card, but blow off tournaments, or not make the top 16 or 32 for 6 straight tourneys, your card goes to the 33rd ranked person.

If Johnny and his clan should have nothing to do with running it, maybe even better is leave out allen, CJ, or any other pool player.
Seems to me the job doesn't require someone who can make a ball.
I think I heard that Dana White never fought professionally.

Just hire a savvy businessman/PR person with a track record of successfully helping other sports
or activities get publicity and airtime.

C'mon Johnny, give it up and go back to the 'ol rockin' chair in your avatar .

That is not surprising. Most "hobby/enthusiast" programs on cable purchase air time from the cable company. There are many hunting and fishing shows -- every one of them is "purchased time."

With a "purchased time" show an independent producer pays all the costs of shooting the show, and then pays again to air it. He makes his money by selling advertising to suppliers in the industry like Bass Pro Shops, Cabella's, etc.

The cable company has nothing to do with the show. As long as the content is legal, they don't care what the show is about. Why should they? They're just selling the time.
