Samm Diep just wrote an article for Pool Synergy, in which she claims that the "true secret to pool is humility." http://www.pooltipjar.com/2010/04/humility/
I'm with the other posters, in that pool has many secrets that will take a while for many of us to learn and master.
Years ago, non-players (usually thieves or outlaws of some sort) would sidle up to me and ask me how to get good at pool. They were mainly interested in wanting to rob their buddies. I would give them the bad news - There are no short cuts! There isn't anything I can whisper in your ear that will magically give you the ability to play good pool. It literally takes years of dedication. That was the end of that conversation.
The secret is - THERE IS NO SECRET!
One day while playing you discover "the secret" or a huge secret in the game of pool. No one else knows it, you are sure. You cant find it anywhere. So what do you do with it? Do you publish it and let everyone spread it around for free? or Do you sell it one player at a time? What is the best way to sell it? Should you share it for the good of the sport? Should you copyright it and try to prevent its being reprinted in mass? If this is so good it makes pool less challenging, do you destroy it to preserve the game? What do you do with something so good?
The answers to these questions might prove interesting.

If by "good," you mean "fair," then I agree. :grin:Actually you are selling this information for a good amount.I've openly shared every "secret" of pool ... it's called VEPS.
If the OP has good information and is dedicated and committed to a DVD project (which takes a lot of time and effort to do right), then he or she should go for it.So your advice to the original poster is to make a DVD of his information and sell it?
That's easy ... put out a high quality product with useful information ... the smart distributors will pick it up, and word of mouth will spread. Now if anyone can tell me the secret to getting major distribution in a fragmented marketplace I'd love to hear it.

How dare you accuse me of advertising the Video Encyclopedia of Pool Shots (VEPS), the best resource ever created for pool players. That easy eh? Ok then. Can you do me a favor and get rid of those annoying four diamonds and the ta da sounds? That kind of drags down the otherwise professional content of your VEPS offering.
I like the way you slipped several ads into this thread. You are the best on AZ at guerrilla marketing for sure. I thought I was good but you have me beat by miles.
So instead of advising the original poster on what to do based on your experience, you advertised twice in his thread instead?

The secret to playing great pool is simple, you look at it through the eyes you did when you were young, no cares in the world, just get up there and play!

I proudly admit that I've learned a lot from many books and videos (I've read, watched, and studied many), numerous magazine articles (I subscribe to and read every article in BD, P&B, and IP every month), many instructors I've had the privilege to work and communicate with (Jerry B, Randy G, Tom S, Tom R, Bob J, etc.), and from the thousands of threads I've read and participated in over the years.Dave,
When you came on this forum and started recording everyone else's thoughts, ideas etc., it became clear to me that you had in mind to sell this info. at some point and it has proved correct. I don't mean to be so critical because it doesn't bother me. What's fine for other people doesn't bother me. But I have a question. Can you list some of your original ideas, thoughts, etc. about the game that you haven't cloned from others.
Just checking.
