The truth about the GSBT event in Bristol TN

You are the one that just doesn't get it - the payout of how much each player paid and what was taken out was on there! Again, the registration fee - $10 a player (which takes the place of a tour card) which I have explained before, goes to clerical costs (fliers, ink cartridges, trophies, camera equipment, computers, etc.)

Would you like me to take a picture of the chart and send it to you? Would that suffice? Also, maybe you could come up with a word for "green fee" for us since you have had a major issue with that.

I guess also to please you I need to send you the other conversations that Janet and I have had regarding our next event.

What is your deal? You "supposively" played in the event and didn't like it, so I say to you maybe the GSBT isn't a tour that is gonna please you. At any time at the event you could have said something to me or Shannon. There are other tours that you can play in, maybe you will be happier there.

I will not post anymore on this situation because like I said before I really don't think your motives are legit.

Thanks again to Janet and Borderline Billiards for hosting the event and all of our sponsors, players, spectators for their continued support!

Like I said before, get your money, but get it from the room owner, not the players

The Great Southern Billiard Tour (Shannon and Marge) run an outstanding event. I'll see y'all in Murfeesboro with my donation in hand.;)

If you had been listening in the previous posts 100 players is not the norm for us. Our business structure is not set up on having that many players. But in the future we are gonna change that!!!

Apparently, nothing is gonna make you understand. You are someone that would hit the lottery and win 15 million and fuss that you didn't hit one for 50 million!

DONE!!!!

Don't lower yourself to this guys level. That is what he's trying to get you to do, to get down in the mud with him.

It ain't worth it. You folks seem to have the public support on your side, ignore this troll.

Same as I always say with tournaments..

Couldn't pay me enough to put up with some of the players out there. Maybe it should be reworded as a babysitting fee.

I agree. And, they still got 100 players there on a weekend.
Maybe there would have been 30 players there normally of Friday and Satuday and maybe a handful on Sunday.

100 players and maybe more than 20 or 30 spectators.

The owner had to like the total sales they made that weekend and not much of a profit, but if they came close to breaking even, it was good in the long haul for the room and the players.

How much is that worth?

And the TD and Promoter had all the headaches.

Babysitting... even if it is just one or two players, it is still a pain in the a$$.

This is an email that was sent from Janet to us.... And for the record Janet tried to pay for the hotel room and since all of this was stirring Shannon gave her the money back.

Shannon,
I just want to clear up a few things regarding the discussions on AZ. PLease feel free to copy and paste this to your site. I don't typically follow the forums but I've had several people telling me about comments that I think need clarification.

First of all, I want to thank you and Marge for a job well done and a successful event....no matter what the comments have been, overall I feel it was very successful. I had numerous compliments on the room and the tourney and have had calls since then asking when the next one will be.

On the downside, I had many complaints about the payouts. I was surpised myself to see that the green fees were basically half the amount of the entries. That seems a little steep. You may have told me this in our phone conversation 2 months ago and maybe it slipped my mind, nevertheless it upset several folks. I guess my biggest issue was it wasn't printed on the fliers and therefore the players had no way to know prior to entering the event. I think all deductions from an entry should be disclosed to the players prior to them committing to an event. You, Marge and myself had this discussion during the event. I'm partially to blame because we did nothing formally in writing about tournament fees due to the fact that we are friends and trust each other. I know that Marge has documented every penny that was taken in during that event and it was posted on the tournament chart for them to see. I want everyone to know that I don't feel like you were hiding or "robbing" the players in any discrete manner, you were just taking the fees that you charge to run the event. My problem with that is that you call it a green fee and most people associate a green fee with the room owner's return profit. This wasn't the case. I did'nt receive any of the green fees nor was I told that I would. I just want the public to be aware that I added $1500 and didn't take any of their entry fees. I did receive 5% of the auction and the Nick Varner Sneaky Pete Cue and $200 from the cue raffle, all of which was agreed upon prior to the event for hosting the tourney.

I think having 100 players says something for your tour and hopefully for me and my room. I am very thankful that we have that kind of support and hope that the payout issue does'nt become a factor in the future. I realize that there are many stops where you are not so successful and you need the good ones to help pay you for the bad ones. That's business and I understand that there has to be a profit or it is no longer a benefit to you. I hope that these players realize that 2 key things happened here: They got to play against some of the toughest players around for only $45-$60 and they were guaranteed that $1500 added if only 15 players showed up. It was you and I taking the chances here and it is like that every time you host an event.

For the next event lets be sure that we have everything documented. Not from lack of trust but lack of memory on my part. Please also make sure that the fliers and website shows a prize fund and entry fee breakdown so that no one feels they have been mislead. When disclosing the info it might be better to use a word other than green fees. Maybe change your registration fee to be $20-$25 and let the entry fee be just that and don't cut it any. Another suggestion might be to tier your personal income based on the entries. If you get over 50 players you could start to decrease your take because at 50 you have made a descent amount for running the event. Anyway, these are just a few suggestions concerning the feedback that I have received. Please don't take this as an insult. You guys did an awesome job running the event and I think we can do it again. I just want to keep the players happy and informed .We can talk about this for my next stop.

Good Luck this weekend!!!!

The owner even expressed disapointment in the payout. I'm not the only one. Hell, the owner even suggested changing their charges.

so you would have been happy?

Like I said before, get your money, but get it from the room owner, not the players

So all it would have taken to make you happy was for the $1500 added money to have went to Shannon and Marge and them only charge their $10 registration fee?

Didn't realize you were so easy to please!

Hu

Like I said before, get your money, but get it from the room owner, not the players

which would u rather have every week...1500 added or $25 per person as the added amount? They average around 40 players and 40 x $25 is only 1000....
I kinda like the guaranteed 1500 myself...week after week...how about u??

Instead of hiding behind smoke and mirrors please justify having a 1500 added tourney and not even paying back the entry fees. Oh wait, you already had your chance and you didn't respond. Would Shannon attend a zero added tourney?

Operate your own tour so we can rip you into a #$@^%

It's simple...... Shannon is a great player and he and Marge are nice people so people come to their defense quicky regardless of the facts. I did not want to be persecuted for telling the truth.

That makes you a coward and a hypocrite in my book. If a person cant put their name on their words then they shouldn't say them.

Truth,
So you dont think that everyone knows Shannon and Marge are doing well with their events? Sure we do and we are happy about it, maybe they will continue having events. Id like to see more bank events, this gives us a chance.
I dont think it should be a surprise that your ----truth----is met with unappreciation, no one is walking around with a blindfold on and the mechanics of that business is between the agreements set down between the TDs and the room owners. Its all a shell game and all of us know that. When its boiled down to it, we get to play and we know that, enjoy that and look forward to it. Its worth it to us.
You know what I hate about religion is that someone always steps up and pronounces what their version of right is all the time and then picks out some verse in the bible that may or may not have been said in the same context and uses it against the people they want to control.
That is exactly what you've done except we arent talking bible verses. Im not so high and mighty as you and your truth possibly but I wish youd keep your---- religion-ideas of truth-- to yourself like a lot of good folks do, rethink what youve done here by looking at the effect you might be having and just keep a clamp on it so the rest of us can have a good time.
If we are willing to pay for a service that should be up to us to decide if that service is valid or not.
Screaming fire and watching everyone else react and giggling about it makes you no less than a coward. It would have been one thing to do it once but youve continued to inflame this thread why dont you let it die, quit pool and go into another sport where higher ideals exist other than some good old selfish fun. As long as you come back with comments this thread wont die and youve got others chiming in.
Just leave it be dude, youre in the minority, shake it off and call it a day. None of us know who you are just pretend it didnt happen. Unfortunately we cant, but hopefully we can go on with out you.

Just seen this thread.

TWC, you NIT-picked one of the most popular & beloved champions our game has and took him & Marge to task over & over. SD & Marge don't need me or anyone else defending them. They've done more good for pool than most of us ever will combined.

But after reading thru this, you ain't being "persecuted" for "telling the truth." You're just making your anonymous self look pretty dang petty and kind of ignorant to boot.

When you start your own tour, let us know how things are going.

My goodness Marge! Do you really not know what this moron wants? He wants you and Shannon to add more money, do more work, and take less pay! I thought it was detailed quite simply. Of course, TruthWillCome lives in a different world than most of us. Pay no attention to the trolls! Continue the tour as you see fit! Either the players will come...or they won't. I'm betting on the latter!

If you were at the event, then you should have looked at the tourney chart. It was all there just like in the last 20 events. If you need to borrow my calculator I will be glad to do that, too.

We have said that if we continue to get bigger fields we will put more in the prize fund. I am working on that now, and it will also be in writing for the room owner as well as the contract that we already have. In short, in the future ALL room owners will be given our business structure as was offered in this case. What else go you want from us?
As I have said before this has definitely been a learing expierence and in the future the "green fee" wording will definitely be changed! We have already sent flyers out for our upcoming events so those will not be changed but any that I make in the future will be broken down and itemized better than someone who is having their taxes prepared!

Thank you and have a nice day!

The fees don't bother me but I am not a fan of handicaps in tournaments. Even though I have no shot of winning I personally just do not want to play in hcped events.

Other than that, carry on.

Former = the first option (players will come)
Latter = the 2nd option (players won't come)

Either the players will come...or they won't. I'm betting on the latter!

I am betting on the former........

Ktown D...Well, they got more than 100 players THIS weekend again, so it's not going down yet!

You & Ktown were betting on the same outcome, only you didn't say it right & he did.
