This is a well regarded secret that was told to me by a wise old man at a pool hall one night ! I will never forget !

Hey says to me keep these two secrets in mind and you will never miss another ball ever !

Secret # 1 : Never ever undercut a ball !

With this I am listening and thinking and waiting for secret #2

The old man had a very serious look on his face and says

Secret # 2 : Never over cut a ball :D

thats sound advice. I will give it a try and let you know how it works for me.

thanks again,
eric

Geez, for somebody so thorough, I'm surprised he said nothing on the subject of never permitting a ball to skid.

Pool does have two rules...

Rule #1... just make the ball.

Rule #2... don't forget rule #1

Larry, I wish I was able to give you some more REP...you've been a stellar contributor to the forum lately. Hoppe vids, secrets of pool, a post on Hannah...you've been busy!

BTW, ask that wise man (if I'm guessing right) about the ring game he & I participated in last Saturday. I pulled off something that hadn't happened before...hint: we pay off double on skunks.

Years ago there were advertisements in many magazines and comic books that showed a person using a slide rule and graphs. The advertisement read something like this; Betting on the horses? Tired of losing money? Learn the secret that the pros know. Send $5 for guaranteed method of never losing another dollar again playing the horses.

The sucker would send in their $5 and get back a envelop with a piece of paper inside that had this written on it: Don't bet.

Therefore

The real secret and guaranteed method of never missing pocketing a ball in pool again is: Don't shoot.

Very similar to my own two secrets.
1. Aim at the correct place.
2. Get the cue ball to go where you are aiming.

That will be $50 please!

:D

In that case ............ I haven't missed a shot in the last 20 hours. Damn, I must be good. ;)

Stu,

(Btw, good meeting you at DCC. In case you don't remember, I'm the guy you suggested to in the Az room, that I cross bank the 15 ball in the side out of a full rack of 15 balls. Nice call  ).

Your skid quote reminded me of something I witnessed for the first time recently.

I'm playing some 14.1 and my opponent badly overcuts a ball by at least 1/2 a diamond.....but the ball skids.... and makes in the pocket!

To add insult to injury, this happened just after he missed a ball in the corner, sending whitey 3 rails around the table and making the ball in the same "called" pocket at 1 full diamond from the hole.

The game was for $200.00, so I was'nt the happiest camper.

C'est la vie.

I guess I'll just have to go back to 9 ball where there is absolutely no luck involved.

Thanks.

Bernie P.
