The way it really went down

Oh, I must have missed that. I didn't read that about Billy's involvement in a ball-wetting incident.

But Mlalum said he was "told," I think. So, if he didn't read it in a thread, I was just curious if his source could be credible. That's all! :)

It's easy to miss a lot of stuff when there is soooo much. The thread was at least a few weeks ago but it did not mention anything about a door being openend to let humidity in.......unless I missed it.

You know, I sometimes believe that when players lose, they're looking for every excuse why. I mean, it couldn't be because they didn't shoot well enough. :o

I remember my boyfriend playing in the Glass City Open one year against Hillbilly. It was a money round, and they were both neck and neck. My boyfriend was on the hill, getting ready to snap the win.

Well, he broke the balls and they barely budged, not much movement. It's now Hillbilly's turn. Hillybilly proceeds to run the rack, wins the next couple games, to include the match.

My boyfriend runs out of the tournament room, his face beet red. He left his cue case by the table and everything. I grabbed his stuff and chased after him. I said, "What's wrong?" He said, "Did you see that? Did you SEE THAT?" I said, "No. What?" He said, "Right when I was breaking the balls, Hillbilly snorted."

I was sitting right there tableside. I never heard Hillbilly snort once.

That's my point exactly. Lets get real, whenever your gambling whether it be pool, cards, golf,or any game that is not monitored in some way players will take an edge if given the opportunity. Have you ever seen anyone bad rack someone? move their ball on the golf course, try to peek at another players cards playing poker? I'm sure you have, or at least heard about things like this happening all the time. So basically it's your responsibility as a player to protect yourself whenever you're in an uncompromising position. And that certainly holds true gambling for huge stakes in a pool room. Whenever this developes it is your responsibility to stop it in it's tracks and continue from that position. If your opposition refuses to adjust and do what's right, then another decision must be made at that time.
There is nothing right about waiting untill the set is over and use such things as basis for a claim to welch on a bet, if that was the case there would never be any gambling period. There is a place and a time for everything, and there is never a place for claims of that nature in gambling.

Exactly! If a situation arises it must be handled immediately or it's not a situation any more. If you accept it for even one shot, you've accepted it as is. If there's a dispute, my cue stays on the table until it's settled. Any claims after the fact fall of deaf ears, it's too late to make a call at that point.

The "wet ball" incident, if it happened wouldn't have been that big of an advantage. It's only the one shot following that it would favor one player over the other. IMHO After that it would be even. certainly not more than the game being played. Playing 15 ahead it's not much. Rediculous to use this as an excuse for not paying.

And even the open door move? WTF Is there ANY humidity in Vegas that doesn't come from the people?

to me you seem to be saying it's ok to cheat especially if you don't get caught. if your opponent doesn't catch you well that's his hard luck and he shouldn't say a thing about it.

Billy I was told you were the one that told Scott to go put water on the balls. Is that true?

Even if I did suggest to Scott to wet the balls do you really think I would confirm that on an open forum? Secondly if I did ask Scott to wet the balls do you think that I would of said it loudly enough for someone to hear?Thirdly would I have mentioned it loudly enough for a propogandist to overhear? Well i'll let you answer your question to me.:sorry:

she should hold up well!

LOL! I saw her on TV the other day. Man, she's 69 and still looks gorgeous! Wow!

She is a beauty but she was also plastic when plastic wasn't cool!

Can't knock the lady, she became a solid if not great actress and has had far more staying power than hundreds more that started as the sex goddess starlet she was.

Hu

I was pretty impressed when I saw her on the Oprah show a couple weeks ago. She's still got "it." :grin-square:

I really don't think you deserve an answer.

Ok I accept that. Sorry if I've made you mad.

But you and Lenny have been burying Dippy all day because you say he won't answer your questions. When he does answer you say he's lying. I don't know if he is or not. But he answers. Integrity can work in a lot of different ways.

But my question seems pretty simple. You could just say no I didn't.

Billy...

I'm sorry that this has happened to you all...but I'm extremely surprised you didn't intervene in all of this action and explain to Dippy that the money needs to be put up in a secure spot for these types of gambling sessions. I'm sure Dippy would of not been offended and would of understood. I know hindsight is 20/20...but I am really surprised you guys operated like this.

When I was in Vegas Dippy was gambling by the game and paying off after every game...and I thought to myself that something could go wrong sooner or later. I think I even remember him saying once he was going to stiff somebody...somewhat in a joking fashion.

I personally know what it feels like when somebody pulls this type of move on you for big time bucks. It is a sick feeling and I wish it upon nobody in the gambling business.

This thread is a disgrace to the sport. There is nothing positive for Billiards to read here. Nothing gentlemanly or respectful about it. Crying on a public forum about losing out on your illegal ventures is about as second rate as it gets. Cry me a river losers.

He has 50,000 reasons to lie. Based on the information given, its hard to say who's right and who's wrong. Both sides sounds convincing enough.

What strikes me as odd, Billy said that Frost bought an SUV from Dippy and paid him for it. Now, if Dippy owed Scott $50k, why is he paying for anything?

Also, Billy said he had $25k and a rolex on him. So did Billy and Scott get that $25k and rolex?

YOU THINK BILLY WOULD BE SMART ENOUGH TO HAVE BOTH SIDES POST. I KNOW EVERYONE ON THIS FORUM WANTS TO WORSHIP BILLY BUT HE IS OLD ENOUGH AND EXPERIENCED ENOUGH TO KNOW BUSINESS IS BUSINESS.

SCOTT IS PRETTY STUPID TO GIVE SOMEONE $10k AND NOT GET A TITLE AND HAVE IT SIGNED.

FOR GUYS THAT THINK THEY ARE PRETTY SMART, THIS CREW SEEMS PRETTY STUPID. I FEEL SORRY FOR NONE OF THEM.

BP Oil Spill

This whole thing can be compared to the BP oil well spill. Oil is flowing, then the blowout, followed by much discussion of possible solutions. Billy, I think you should get started on your relief wells so that you can get the oil flowing in the right direction again.;)

Yes!!!

It was only yesterday that I posted how being in the stiffing business could be hazardous to one's health. Now, less than 24 hours later we have reports of a 6' 8" Samoan goon coming to chat with Dippy and grabbing him by the throat? This makes sense.

Now that Billy has chimed in, the room is getting a little smaller for Dippy. And, as the always-level-headed Nathan suggested, it would be nice to hear first-hand from Scott for his side of the story, but to be honest, we may not need to. Most of the pieces of this puzzle are now together and I must say, it does look like a "Viffer Stiffer".

The only remote possibility that could have supported Dippy's claim would be that if he paid Scott and now Scott is bagging all of his buddies, and in particular, Mr. Incardona. This theory has been dispelled by the distinguished Billy Incardona himself, right here in this thread. And just like Lenny's account, it has the ring of truth to it, complete with details of the conversation they had with Dippy right after the 3rd match and then again later where Dippy gave a BS answer to Billy about when and where he supposedly paid Scott.

Facts mixed with Speculation & Hypothesis (is such a thing permissable?): Mr. Dippy lost some big dollars to pool players and he obviously has (had?) a lot of gamble in him. Went up against Scott and found himself down two sets for big money. As reported, Scott had a close hit that was watched by Bartram (friend of Dippy) and was called clean. Despite Dippy posting here yesterday that he didn't even watch the hit, reports are that Dippy declared it was a bad hit and further stated that he wasn't gonna pay for that set. So naturally, the Freezer gets pissed off to the extent that he's spitting mad, literally. Billy, who's been there so many times and has the complete set of t-shirts, with a cool head tries to keep things moving forward in a positive way and gets Scott to spot up the 9 and resume play. The Freezer is now melting down in full deFrost mode, Dippy is trying with all his might to make a comeback but ultimately he's overmatched. He must have been thinking I'm not gonna be a golden goose for this guy who is stomping and spitting (even though his *Dippy's* whining about the bad hit, fueled it).

And so here we are. Added insight by Billy regarding a car sale where Dippy won't give Scott the title, etc., all points toward big sour grapes between Scott and Dippy. Dippy must be trying to teach him a lesson.

Until and unless Dippy can come up with credible info on when, where, and who saw him pay Scott, this court finds Dippy Dave guilty of stiffing in the first degree. There will be a $50,000 fine assessed and if not paid within 48 hours, you will be remanded to a Samoan village where you will be made to feel very uncomfortable.

The cue ball is in your court.

Next case...

Best,
Brian kc

You my friend have nailed it, no one has made as much sense of this senseless attempt by Dippy made more clearly than this post of yours. And with a dash of humor as well. Great stuff.

I think it can be difficult for some folk to understand why things can happen in the heat of the battle. I know you're aware of how crazy it can be.

With challenge matches, there are concessions made oftentimes that would not normally happen.

As one example, how would you like to play somebody that said you cannot say one word the entire set, but he can run his mouth to whoever he wants and that's okay? :grin-square:

This may be a far-fetched example, but it illustrates what people will succumb to, especially if they have an opportunity to compete for high stakes. As you know, in pool, unlike poker and other sports, these opportunities don't avail themselves very often. :o

Heck, when you side-bet with somebody, sitting on the rail, as an example, you're under the assumption that you're going to get paid off if you win. There is a certain level of trust there. Unfortunately, sometimes people may not follow through what they say they were going to do after the fact. It's never a pretty situation. What are you going to do?

It's logical to think that events should have transpired differently, when it gets upside-down. That's for sure! Monday morning quarterbacking at its finest! :)
