There goes a good thread.

No doubt my absent minded self will find a way to screw something up

Nah!
Unlike the old days when you wrote the G-codes, the CAM software does that now . You just need a few editing . And of course, the setup.
A lot less prone to screw-ups.

That's because you haven't "milled" the vice instead of the part on the vice yet.:D
Heaven forbid you go to X0Y0 without calling the safe Z.

In electronics they say "never let the smoke out; if you do it won't work anymore." I guess the corollary here is, if you see a lot of sparks you know your vise just went bad.

I'm not scared

Remember the noise and sparks your router made when it hit the tailstock because you changed to a shorter piece and forgot to move the stop??
You can expect to do this at least once when editing a program and forgetting to take out a - sign on the z! :0 [or similar edit]
It's all good though and the memories are with you for the rest of your time. :)

The memory that haunts me the most was with the 4 blade saw machine.

I had just spent over an hour replacing all the blades, $100 each by the way, and proceeded to crash them spinning at full speed into the tail stocks.

They cut nice slots in the steel centers, and ball bearing and parts of bearing races scattered all over the floor. It was a pretty cool spark show.

We talk about useful things and how to do certain things then some argue or disagree over opinions and sparks fly, threads get deleted and people get reprimanded. It's amazing how much knowledge can be shared. And then, more amazing is how some can talk about absolutely nothing and keep a thread alive with idle chatter about nothing.

Does anyone actually work; perhaps this is the job. :D

And you can judge what type of steel ya just wrecked by the colour and patterns of the sparks

Dave

Just consider it heat treating .
Dead centers with 2" radius tip actually look cool.
Kinda like a tactical pen.

can you do it again please, and video it this time :p

Sorry Brent!

I don't really need a video. I can close my eyes and see it all over again!

Royce
LOL
i know exactly what you mean
first time i crashed headstock with router i about jumped out of my skin
but boy it was a purty show !!

Gotta take a break now and then.

I prefer to crash routers into my thumb.... no sparks:thumbup:

Absenteeism is what keeps a good chat alive.

Joe,

Exchange of ideas and useful things is why everyone joins in these forums.

Open minded people can digest information and accept or deny same and that is cool.

It is not the Rabbit who always wins the race in the end as conventional thought often becomes an also ran when things are viewed in a futuristic way.

Critical thinking should:

Look for ways to see problems that other people don't.

Take risks that other people are afraid to take.

Have the courage to defy the crowd and to stand up for their own beliefs.

Seek to overcome obstacles and challenges to their views that other people dismiss.

As for work, some of us are retired and can hear and dance to the cadence of their own drum beat. The rat race vanishes in retirement, thank god.

We should all try to push envelopes and raise the bar of expectation through critical thinking.

After all, That's how Carol Shelby beat Enzo Ferrari at his own game.

Happy Cue Making to All,

Rick

Not to detract from your point, but Ford really wasn't all that interested in beating Ferrari until Enzo backed out of selling his company to them. Henry's ego prevailed and history was born with Shelby and the GT40 program.

Here is a tearjerker for you. Along the 118 for years and years sat this really cool looking car, covered in dust and in a state of disrepair, that I begged my dad to buy. I was no older than 10 and it wasn't until much much later that I realized what I was coveting. My dad won't talk about it.........

Here is a good picture of what it looked like....

This thread is an exercise in futility.

What have you gotten out of this thread other than learned who has more time on their hands than they sometimes know what to do with?

What is there to learn in a thread about a thread that has vanished due to personalities clashing?

Other than learning that a router crashing into a headstock or whatever makes a beautiful, colorful fireworks display; what else have you learned?

So, in conclusion what "exchange of ideas and useful things" is there in this thread?

And on that note, I am outta here so I want to wish all of you a wonderful weekend. See you all next week, same time, same place, same bat channel.
