This was during my xylotex ( cough! ) and mach2 days .
The keyboard did not have a big red ball.

That's because you haven't "milled" the vice instead of the part on the vice yet.
Heaven forbid you go to X0Y0 without calling the safe Z.![]()
No doubt my absent minded self will find a way to screw something up![]()

...... if you see a lot of sparks you know your vise just went bad.
TW
I'm not scared
Remember the noise and sparks your router made when it hit the tailstock because you changed to a shorter piece and forgot to move the stop??
You can expect to do this at least once when editing a program and forgetting to take out a - sign on the z! :0 [or similar edit]
It's all good though and the memories are with you for the rest of your time.![]()
....It was a pretty cool spark show.
Royce
And you can judge what type of steel ya just wrecked by the colour and patterns of the sparks
Dave
The memory that haunts me the most was with the 4 blade saw machine.
I had just spent over an hour replacing all the blades, $100 each by the way, and proceeded to crash them spinning at full speed into the tail stocks.
They cut nice slots in the steel centers, and ball bearing and parts of bearing races scattered all over the floor. It was a pretty cool spark show.
Royce
can you do it again please, and video it this time![]()
LOLSorry Brent!
I don't really need a video. I can close my eyes and see it all over again!
Royce
We talk about useful things and how to do certain things then some argue or disagree over opinions and sparks fly, threads get deleted and people get reprimanded. It's amazing how much knowledge can be shared. And then, more amazing is how some can talk about absolutely nothing and keep a thread alive with idle chatter about nothing.
Does anyone actually work; perhaps this is the job.![]()
Lemme know when that cnc is set..
I prefer to crash routers into my thumb.... no sparks:thumbup:

Joe,
Exchange of ideas and useful things is why everyone joins in these forums.
Open minded people can digest information and accept or deny same and that is cool.
It is not the Rabbit who always wins the race in the end as conventional thought often becomes an also ran when things are viewed in a futuristic way.
Critical thinking should:
Look for ways to see problems that other people don't.
Take risks that other people are afraid to take.
Have the courage to defy the crowd and to stand up for their own beliefs.
Seek to overcome obstacles and challenges to their views that other people dismiss.
As for work, some of us are retired and can hear and dance to the cadence of their own drum beat. The rat race vanishes in retirement, thank god.
We should all try to push envelopes and raise the bar of expectation through critical thinking.
After all, That's how Carol Shelby beat Enzo Ferrari at his own game.
Happy Cue Making to All,
Rick
