thinking of going to a OB2

i currently use a predator 314 2. for about 2 years. i adjusted to the low deflection within days. but i never got the feel for my touch shots back. i hear the ob2 has some feel to it. im not crazy about the 11.75 tip. but im sure i could get used to it. i hear the ob1 has more deflection than the 314-2, and i guess the 314-2 is compareable to the ob2.
any one do the switch

i tried someones for about 20 minutes. that small tip will end up getting you busted in the long run. maybe it's just me but i can't cue straight enough to handle it

ignore what you "hear" about the deflection of an ob1 or ob2 vs an 314-2 or a z shaft. It's all about how it feels TO YOU. I always heard great things about the 314, but when I shot with it, I HATED it. I tried someone's ob-1, and it was heaven. I only shoot with an ob1 on my schon now, and I'm planning on getting an ob1 for my new cue whenever it shows up.

FYI, the ob1 and 314 have the same diameter, and the ob2 is the same diameter as the z shaft.

i don't think the ob1 diameter was effecting his decision. you should have stuck to the 314. you'd be a ball better by now!

i agree with the shadowcat, whatever works for you is the way to go, its all personal perference

i tried a first gen 314 and loved it, second generation 314-2 and hated it

z-2 was the shaft i really learned how to use controlled english and loved it during that time, and then after a year of using a custom i tried the z-2 and hated the feel

tried the ob-2 after that and for me it feels great, does spin effortlessly, but the taper is too thin for my taste. I think thats why i liked the z-2 back when i was learning more about english because i used an open bridge more often

I haven't tried the ob-1 yet (really need to because i think this shaft would be good for me lol), but if you're going from a 314-2 to an ob-2 the hit is going to be completely different along with a completely different taper. i would suggest going to an ob-1 if anything and not worrying about what people say on deflection because if there is a difference, its a very small one but in return you get tons more feel in the hit which helps in those touch shots. Unless you mostly use a open bridge then jumping to a ob-2 might not be that bad for you. Hope something in this rant helps lol

As far as feel I have never hit with a cue that plays softer than a OB1. Dunno about the OB2 but I didn't like the super soft OB1. I play with a 314 2 but I just broke another ferrule. Doubt I get another.

The OB2 is a conical taper and even though it is a smaller diameter "tip/ferrule" than the OB1 or the 314-2 (which both has straight tapers), it is a stiff hitting shaft.

Like what one of the other posters said, judge a cue/shaft for YOURSELF. Leave subjective thoughts behind and let the "PERFORMANCE" of the cue/shaft determine your path.

Sound, soft, hard, looks & feel: All subjective stuff. Look at the performance of each shaft. Set up the same shots and test the different shafts shooting the same shots. You might surprise yourself if you give them all a fair test.

I shoot with a McDermott so I picked up a used I-3 shaft that has a 11.75mm diameter tip. Love to play with it. I got used to the small tip very quickly. You can really hit the cue ball exactly where you want to with that small tip. Try it, I think you'll like the OB-2.

I purchased 2 OB-2 shafts for my Schon. It took me awhile to get used to no white ferrule........but I am delighted with the performance of them.
If anyone has an OB-1 shaft for a Schon, in excellent condition, I would be willing to trade straight up for one of my OB-2's. Wish I had ordered 1 of each to compare.......but hindsight is always 20/20.

I now have the OB2 and will never go back.

I thought I wouldn't like the size of the OB2, but I now prefer it over the OB1. I love it!

thanks for the replies
i think ill pick up the ob1 and then maybe pick up the ob2 in the future.
any thoughts.

I love my OB-1, but the taper of the OB-2 is different. I am still trying to get used to it. I actually have gone back to my Z shaft. I like the thinner shaft.

I was in a similar position as you about a year-and-a-half ago. I was a long-time 314 user and new to an OB-1. Found that the OB-1 was softer than the 314 and wanted something with even greater performance and a stiffer hit. I put my money down on an OB-2 and I love it.

Played alot with both(1&2).

Personally I like the ob-2 more, thought I like thinner shafts.
I feel I've more english controll with the ob-2.

I run out with an 11mm tip and its stiffer than any aftermarket shaft out there, its not a problem at all. It didn't take me long to get used to it, tho I prefer 12mm or just a lil bigger. THe great thing about a smaller tip is that you don't have to get out of the center of the cue ball to get the desired english. Lets you shoot alot straighter.

The only thing I don't like doing with that small a tip is playing bank pool.

you can get used to anything,

now im leaning toward the ob-2. im sure if i dont like it i will be able to sell it easier than the ob-1 since its newer on the market

I had predator 314.. liked it...then the 314-2.. LIKED IT!

Switched to the OB-1 ..loved it! now I have the OB-2... REALLY LOVE IT!

Just picked up a 5280 cue in trade and hoping they make an OB-2 to fit the Wood to Wood SP-38tm pin...can't find it on there website.

Royce?

I tried the OB-1 and couldn't like it. The hit felt mushy to me. I tried a hard tip but the hit still felt and sounded mushy to me. I play with a Z2 with a hard Morri or Talisman or Super Pro tip and I get the sound and feel.. the "click", that I require.
