Thoughts on Sugartree

I have never hit with a Sugar yet but looking forward to when mine arrives. I think the woods and rings are very nice, just natural beauty. If it hits half as good as it looks then it will be a fine players cue. These 2 are my favorites from Eric, the bottom cue is just sick especially the joint on it matching the points, not sure of the wood. Having met him he is a pretty straight forward and down to earth guy along with being a family man. Not sure if he will be at BCA this year but hope to run into him

The second pic did not show up. Please re-post. I'm curious what the other cue is. The cue in the top pic is the sister cue to my ICCS cue. Ebony and Curly Narra. Eric made two cues at the same just in case something weird happened. It is currently owned by Tofurkey here on AZ.

I have played with my Sugartree every day since I got it in 2006. Eric is a stand up guy (above and beyond customer service in my case since UPS delivered an empty tube and he sent a replacement out of his pocket) and you will no doubt love your cue.

Mine is a very simple sneaky Pete with basic ringwork and the hit is great.

I rarely go to a pool hall to play. Last week I was at Mr. Cues II in Atlanta practicing on a table while a small tournament took place on the other side of hall. One of the tournament players approached me about buying my ST (he had no idea what it could be) because he heard the hit from afar and loved the taper once he got a closer look. Unfortunately for him I would never sell it.

Enjoy.

jps

nice joint prts.... if i only had walrus ivory joint protectors for mine.. hint hint eric

I shot with the cue for the first time tonight and i loved it. The way its weighted, the taper on the shafts, the weight and balance of the cue. And above all the hit is UNREAL. I couldnt be happier. As soon as i get a chance to take some good pics i will post them. The Tigerwood in the cue is sick, it almost looks alive.

pick up

yea did you get that plane jane from jamie... i liked that one also i wanted points so i held out and found mine.. now if he could only fine me a wrapless bluegrass to go with my sweet sugar...let me ask what you guys using to break with i know my sugar can handleit but my tip mushrooms all the time on my olde cues i have used...

It's wild isn't it? I know when I saw it I said "This thing is nuts." Nice pick up.

It really is insane, you really do have to see it in person to appreciate it. The pictures did no justice, so youre description made my decision easy. Today is a nice sunny day in Pittsburgh so i plan on taking some good pictures. Thanks again.

Yes i got the Tigerwood/Curly Maple plain from Jamie. This is my first Sugartree so im starting out small, but eventually i will be purchasing one with points. Im hesitant to break with the cue since i just got it. Its so solid i know it would destroy the rack though. Im just taking it easy on my baby for now:thumbup:. I really cant imagine playing with anything else. Erics cues are the nuts!

I met Eric for the first time last years SBE very down to earth man . He makes a sweet hitting cue . I does take pride in his work . I don't own one but soon . I put in a order for one . Can't wait to get it..

Ive never had the pleasure of owning one but I have hit with a buddies several times and I must say I was pretty impressed. Not only is the craftsmanship just beautiful but it hits pretty darn good!

Well, I couldn't resist...

Hi Lenny, That was my cue. I was the first owner of the Hickory Burl and African Blackwood beauty. Here is my favorite pic of that cue:

I have to agree on that one! Absolutely perfect. I can only imagine how that baby hits!

IMHO, your new cue hits better. The cue that you have has Eric's newer ferrule material which produces a much better hit. Don't get me wrong, this cue plays great. The only reason I sold this cue was to get the cue in my avatar. It is currently the biggest cue Eric has made to date.

The material you are referring to is 2500 year old fossilized Walrus ivory. Yes, this cue has it as well as your new one. They were made in the same batch of cues. The same can be said for the razor wire ringwork.

Be on the lookout for my new cue direct from Eric. It will have this ivory and ringwork as well.

CMD i was very curious about about the ferrule material because i have never heard of it. Im glad you cleared that up for me. And that does explain the amazing hit with my cue. Its like nothing ive ever felt before. And another thing CMD your are one lucky guy to have owned these two monsters Erics made. I cant wait to see your new one. Someday eventually i plan on having one of Erics "big" cues:thumbup:
