Threads I Hate The Most

Up until now, I have yet to direct my accusations at anyone in particular and I'm not going to start. I'm not going to get into the value of JAM's posts and I do this out of respect for her since she isn't even involved in this thread. However, I would like to note, at least her threads are properly titled....

Thanks for the respect -- I think. :p

I do not post -- or maybe I should say -- I have not posted in previous times for the purpose of having my posts evaluated. What's one man's junk may be another man's pleasure. :)

I am a long-time member of this forum and have witnessed the evolution of what it has become today. I think because of the growth spirt in membership, new members should be accorded a welcoming environment. Maybe they have not searched the forum to read all the Who's the Best threads, et cetera, and as such, they may initiate a thread or post about a topic which has been discussed ad nauseum. Should they be chastized for repetitiveness on topics that maybe veteran members have already read in times gone by? I don't think so.

What is offensive material to some may not be offensive to others. I remember when it deemed to be offensive, the mere mention of Santa Claus on this forum because this fictional character represented a untoward subject matter which was offensive to some readers, but not all readers.

Because the forum has grown, it has experienced what I would term as "growing pains." I think this happens in all newsgroups, discussion forums, and the like. To preclude someone from posting here because their content is not deemed worthy by a minute few seems sad to this reader.

Carry on with the debate. I just wanted to insert my 2 cents worth, which ain't worth much anymore. That was then, and this is now. :)

JAM, I'd like to avoid revisiting this topic but I can assure you, my offense was not at the mere mention of Santa. It had far more to do with the context of the thread. I was tweaked and someone just said the wrong thing at the wrong time and unintended at that.

Hey, Jude -- nice title for a song, huh? :D -- my point, if you can call it that, is that there are topics on this forum that may not be interesting to all the readers collectively as a whole.

I cannot read all the threads anymore, the way I used to when I first joined AzBilliards, because it's too voluminous. It would be a full-time 24/7 job to read this forum in its entirety. So, like most, I pick and choose the threads which are of interest to me.

I did not post here to contribute "value" in the past. Personally, I used to think of this forum as a vehicle to network with other like-minded pool folk.

Every time I see one of those diagrams that inserts an annoying pop-up on my screen for Flash Player, I don't like it. Yet, I would not chastize those who enjoy this subject matter and like to look at these diagrams.

My point, Jude, is this. What may be interesting to you may bore me to death. However, this membership is a multi-faceted group of readers. That's why AzBilliards is great. There's a little something here for everyone to enjoy. To restrict the content to be subject matters that is interesting to a handful of readers does not seem like a good direction to go towards. That's all I am trying to say. :)

One thing to keep in mind is that there is sometimes a place for repeating topics if it's not done excessively rather than just searching for old threads . You can get new peoples' opinions who either weren't here or didn't see it before. The alternative of bumping an old thread is not always a better solution because then someone might have to read through several pages to see what's going on.

Agreed,

Also,
We have to realize that there's always new members coming on that want advice on old topics. They need a break. The search engine is nice to have but sometimes takes way too long to find what you want to read and therefore easier to just Beat the Horse one more time. I simply don't open threads like OB1 ....type. That's my own ignore feature. I think we all have one of those. Given to us at birth and finely honed by age 14.

Sure there's stuff I don't want to read but remember there's things I want that some others don't, and vis versa. And yes I wish there was more specific pool stuff rather than the rest but few things in life are perfect.

Jude, one day when I am no longer a beginner I will knock you off your hill.... Until then I will be knocking the balls into the rails since they do not like to head towards the hole when I shoot. :D

JAM, I never said anything about restriction. Others have but not me. I'd like the participants to be more mindful of their audience. That's it.

Maybe I am not understanding what you would like to occur to make the forum more suitable. The audience is a diverse group of readers, and because they come from so many different facets of the pool culture, it is inevitable that some subject matters may not be popular with all readers.

I have read some threads which I don't like, but I have also read some threads which I find interesting. Therefore, I have the power to click and read what I want to.

BTW, I guess I will piss you off now because I'm going to change topics. However, were you recently on TV sitting in the "Cash Cab"? I swear there was a guy on there that looked just like you. I caught the program in progress and never heard the guy's name. He won 800 bucks, though! :D

Perhaps you should be more mindful in the fact that you are not the only audience.

Many posters have said this and I must agree...if you are too lazy to skip past posts that you are not interested in, then you have a major issue. Get a grip and a clue.

Godspeed Oddball, when that day comes will you please videotape it and post it on Youtube?:)

Do you really weave baskets? I have always wondered that when I see your avatar. I have a big collection of Longaberger baskets. I used to collect them. Now I've got a bunch of them around my home. I use them all the time, though. So they are practical. They're pretty, I enjoy them, but looking at them today, in hindsight, I think I spent too much money! :o

Sigh, no. I have never been so graced to find the cash cab but I can assure you, I would rock that show. Those questions are too easy.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the group's diversity but we're still supposed to have a common interest. Also, avoiding these topics would be far easier if they were properly titled.

*sits on bomber's couch*

Bomber, I don't quite know what to do with myself. I can't help but open all the threads and read all the nonsense! Where is this grip and clue you speak of?

Seriously, there is no greater compliment in pool than someone announcing their goal is to beat you. I'll post it on youtube myself.

I think it is in the package together with the new OB-1 shaft. I'll start a new thread and ask for it

Well, that depends on who's announcing that goal. I feel that my greatest compliments have been from my peers.
