To much forum arguing.

Lately it seems that when people post something that has been posted before by someone else the new poster gets jumped on and told to use the search.Or if someone posts in the wrong section they are yelled at instead of being advised to post in the correct forum.
I don't understand all the rudeness around here, it use to be we all helped each other out and gave advice selfishly. I hope we can make this site more user friendly again, especially for the noobies.
We all have the same interests and thats pool so we should all try to be more civil.
That's all i've got to say on this.

Wow, I almost posted a thread on this exact same subject a few days ago. My take on this is that as new members come onto the site, it is always refreshing to hear their take, even on a well-discussed/overly-discussed subject. They weren't around before and instead of bringing the old thread back to the forefront, I personally had just rather someone start a new thread and go from there. One thing is pretty evident, aside from new products, new rules, and new players, there ain't a whole helluva lot on the subject of pool that HASN'T been discussed. It would be a pretty dull website if we waited for something NEW to come up to talk about.

The only thing i am tired of reading is about CTE.
All other subjects when it comes to pool is fine with me.
It looks like we lose a lot of noobies because they are made to feel inadequate.
It's about time for civil discussions.

This place is super nice compared to lots of places.

If I am going to say a BlackBerry forum cause my phone died and it showed a code on the boot screen I would not start a thread on it. I would take 10 seconds and type that code into the search. Then if there were no posts with the information I was hoping to find I might start a thread with a specific question.

If I were to go to a handgun forum with a question about whether people like 9mm or .45 better I would not start a thread. I would search. If I went to a Mustang forum to find out what brand of drag radials people prefer I would search. To do this shows respect for the forum and its members.

To come to here and ask "What is the best tip" or "What is the best cue" or "What is the best case" is just poor form. It shows that the person is too lazy to look and read what many many forum members have taken the time to write down already.

Just my opinion on forum life in general.

Couldn't agree more. Exactly right.

Also, to the OP - when someone starts a thread in the wrong section, I agree that they shouldn't be yelled at. Their thread should be immediately DELETED with no explanation, warning or fanfare.

And to those self-righteous azzholes who start a thread with "I know this is the wrong section, but...." JUST BAN THEM!

At least for a week or 2. Yep, dead serious.

Shouldn't this be in the NPR section? j/k

I love this forum, the knowledge and great stories shared as well as a lot of great people on here. I agree with you though, some people are too quick to tell others to search, which the search capabilities can be difficult at times on here. Anyway, great post!

Your points are noted but the search feature here could be improved just a bit.

I totally disagree with all of you.

And I believe the word intended was "selflessly".

Things can always be improved but I suspect many of the endless reposts are started by people who have no clue how good or bad the search function works.

I agree. And it shows that the person really isn't that interested in the answer to his question. There is a wealth of information here in the forums, but having dozens of threads asking the same questions over and over just dilutes and buries that information.

It could be improved A LOT. It's sad how outdated the search software is. A search that doesn't recognize words of less than four letters makes it awfully hard to search for things like "cue tip," or "9 ball," or "cue case" ... Very basic searches that should be easily accessed, but can't due to inadequate software.

but.....it's been REALLY HOT lately.

Seriously, it seems there are some short fuses on here quite often, but when it comes to things like Justin brought up, I totally agree with him. In those posts I feel like posting - TRY EM ALL, then you tell us!, but I refrain.

I try to post in a civil manner MOST of the time. I might needle someone here or there a bit, but I never do it in a malicious way. If I happen to be grumpy and a post rubs me the wrong way I might even throw some sarcasm at someone....There is a large range of personalities on here from many differing backrounds, so there is bound to be SOME bickering...not a real big deal. I like to follow the internet rule of don't say/post something that you wouldn't say to someone's face (which in Justin's case I may need a stepladder or at least a chair to do :p - and yes, I would say that to a Justin).

Arguing

There's nothing wrong with arguing.
A discussion is 'examination by arguement'.

But we should not lose sight of the fact that these discussions
should be a mutual search for understanding.

And if someone is having a bad day, give him a break.....
....you bunch of inconsiderate #%@$&^^*&
