Dennis Gieske/Tex
I've been talkin' with dennis recently (we attended college at the same time) having not spoken to him or seen him since 4-96 at CJ's in Dallas, it was the weekend of Earls Million Dollar Package and the first PCA event. Here's the encounter they had. The Tables they played on @ Crazy Horse in Carbondale were gold cloth rag 9' AMF tables with 5'' pockets....Dennis was in Very Great Shape, was a boxer and bouncer and professional student and could dance/spin/bop and weave better James Brown. There was nightclub in Murphysboro IL about 7 miles out to town where Dennis would Dance with this gal who became the homecoming Queen of SIU. It was big deal back then because she was a single mother with a child, and it was frowned upon at the time, but she won the title anyway.
About 1:30 in the AM before the dance club/bar would close the dance floor would clear and Tex and his gal would dance and everyone would watch in amazement. Dennis had moves and spins and splits and you name it, Michael Jackson/John Travolta/James Brown couldn't match this mans talent, and what a boxer he was.
Here's his encounter with Toby in the late 60's, and I quote;
''Yes, I think I read something bout him a few days ago at the forum... About how good he was. All iknow is I had him so down for the first 12-14hrs that he begged me not to quit him. I had been up all day and ran a full 6 miles before I started to play him in the eve around 7-8 pm. Sooo, I stayed instead of taking a break to sleep some til next nite...and payed for it. We raised the bet a little and I started taking more chances and Whammo! He got juiced up and I lost it all...even the girl that was hanging around me all nite. She went with the winner! He was there with that Cuban Joe. With my cash I couldn't bet him enough to bust him. One of many mistakes I made long ago. Yes! I've been there.''
