Tony Ellin vs Mike Sigel Video

Thank you Lenny. This was a great match, and a great day for Tony. I was just posting yesterday about how powerful Tony's break was, and now people can see what I am talking about.

I watched for 2 minutes and John Sanders give Mitch the 7 out in the booth.
Where is this guy, we need him back.

Thanks for posting these. When I get a moment I'll watch them. I remember Tony's game, he was truly a talent.

Nice upload, might help people realize that Sigel circa IPT was not the guy that played back in the 1980's. Sigel back in the day was fairly quiet, determined and he would chat abit quietly but none of the trash talk crap he did when the IPT formed. I think he was mostly doing that trying to drum up interest and I don't think it helped his play at all because it was not really his character.

in this video you can see how he talks loudly, shake his head almost on every rack, complain about almost anything. And this is 1990.

Good post. I remember marveling when Mike was talking non stop while Efren was shooting during the white washing Efren gave him in that first IPT final.

He was hyping up the final for sure all tournament and I can appreciate that.

I'd never seen Ellin play and what a treat that was.

I remember actually watching this match when it first appeared on ESPN; I was three years a civilian after serving my country for 8 years in the U.S. Navy (got out in 1990). While in, I was stationed in Norfolk, VA, and I spent virtually all my non-duty waking hours at Q-Masters. This was when Q-Masters was still located on Sewell's Point Road, the location of which had now long burned to the ground. Got to see Tony play in person, and Blackjack's right -- Tony's break hurt your ears if you were anywhere nearby. Sometimes he would find himself at the opposite end of the table (body momentum) if he really laid into it!

One thing unique about Tony is how he often popped-up on his shots -- I'm reminded of Ismael "Morro" Paez when he does this. He didn't do it on every shot like Morro does (and not nearly as aggressively -- i.e. a "Mexican jumping bean" -- that Morro is known for), but he does it often enough that you can see a pattern to it -- certain cut or long-distance shots caused Tony to spring up before the cue ball has even contacted the object ball.

Quiet and unassuming, he was a monster nonetheless, and the pool world misses him dearly. A pure gentleman much needed in today's marred "making a disastrous spectacle of oneself" pool world.

RIP Tony,
-Sean

Glad you all enjoyed it and thanks for the rep/kind words. I wish I had more footage of Tony but sadly I do not, will post some more rare videos as I get a chance.

Mike's schtick is still with us...not sure for whom it is done, but he is a talker today.

Read somewhere he was going fishing. There won't be a fish w/ in a hundred yards of his boat. Guaranteed:wink::grin-square:

Mike doesn't go to the lake, river or pond... he goes deep sea fishing... sometimes with Kevin Trudeau.
