Cases are tooled in the Fellini tradition. The leather was tooled by Peter Main. And of course the cases were made by Ron Thomas.

Wow.. those are beautiful and very classy.
I know that Peter and Ron are good friends. Peter has been a huge influence for me and has often taken the time to give me advice. I consider him to be one of the best leather toolers and colorists in the world. His work is always extremely clean and professional. Congratulations!

Wow Ric, you weren't kidding, those are fantastic! Tooled by a true master of the craft, and built by one of the best around. I'd be thrilled if at the end of my leather career if I had a tenth of the talent that Peter has, he's incredible. These couldn't be in better hands either, you are one lucky guy.

those 2 cases are so neat and clean
so sharp
i seem to remember seeing fellini cases with similar designs
those are really class

will you or ron be selling these styles

i would like to own one of each

Hey Rick, you have some of the nicest Gems(as shown in your Avatar too)
I wish I where near to your Country:(
Ralf from sunny Thailand:wink:

Three things:

1. Peter Main is a tooling GOD!!!! Awesome that he is doing some work on cue cases.

2. These cases are fantastic. Great job by both Peter and Ron.

3. I guess it's now ok to duplicate the Fellini tooling designs? Meaning that we can all do them without getting withering criticism from the copy police????

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I really love Thomas' cases. I make no secret that I am not a fan of tooling but I do have high regard for the art. These examples are very high level examples of that art. Simplicity speaks volumes. Simple case, simple adornment = elegance. That they replicate classic designs only speaks to the timelessness of those designs and their solid foundation in the art and function of the cue case.

Peter Main and Ron Thomas nailed it. Case closed, these are to drool over for sure.

for more www.petermain.com A truly amazing artist.

Thanks. I am already familiar with his work.

It was for everyone. I hope that Ron and Peter are working on something with Peter's original designs. That would be out of this world imo.

Ah yes....as the song says...."You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you".....and the song wasn't about me. :D In fairness you quoted me so I thought it was a specific reply.

It would be amazing to see further collaboration for sure. I would love to see Main unload both barrels on some Thomas cases.

Wow! Did you see the leather work he did on the guitars in that link?
This guy is amazing! I'm at a loss for words for this guy!!

I know. I have Peter Main's work printed out and held up as inspiration for our toolers. These two cases are actually a walk in the park for Peter as far as I am concerned. As always with him the tooling is clean and crisp as Rex said, but the actual pattern isn't very hard for someone of his caliber.

I have been preaching that people should judge tooling the same way they judge inlays on a cue. When cases get into the $800 - $3500, even north of $5000 then it's time to start really looking at the details in my opinion.

I have a picture of a flask the Peter did, this one, http://petermain.com/images/flasks.jpg the larger image.

Some day I will do a case that looks something like this. We have experimented with it a little and failed so far. The detail and steady hand required here is phenomenal in my opinion.

I hope that someday cases with collaborative work are judged by the artist who did the work as well. This is why I tell my toolers to sign their work. Like Sandra Brady and Bob Hergert and others I think that the artist who does the carving should be noted and celebrated. (and judged if one wants to compare notes)

Anyway, I am glad to see that someone has opened the door to re-creating some of the Fellini designs before I did it. Now the "heat" is off me :-)
