Okay - Realistically how many american players do you think are actually in the top 10 players on the planet . And i don't mean some players that have been hanging in the U.S. for a while . Born and bred here .

Two. SVB and Archer, possibly three with Hatch.

In the world ? I don't think Archer or Hatch make the list . There might be ten or more players just in asia that are better than those two IMHO .

Archer and Hatch are pretty good. Who are your 10 players in the world that are better?

Id like to see your list myself...What 10 players are there that are going to beat Johnny in a race to 21 6 out of 10 sets every time they play, And I think the Mosconi cup showed just where Hatches game is there isnt a big oh line waiting to play him for their lives..

IMHO pool is not legitament enough to have a list. No seeded tourneys, you can do nothing abouit the luck of the break unless you soft break with the balls racked the same way every time, everybody loves watching that. Theres no head to head match up of the same players consistently, the same two players might not play each other in a tourney for months. Pool just flat out has so many flaws.

with every flaw in pool, there are 3 things i do like. negative asses like you keep it from being a sport instead of a game.

Orcullo, corteza, pagulyan, bustamante, alcano, manalo, gallego, kiamco are probably all favored over any American as are yang and chang and probably several others from Taiwan.
I do think Johny has proven he is still the best American player and he can compete with those guys when on like he is right now. He has hot and cold spurts because of the lack of opportunities for him to compete. Corey and dennis have the talent as well as schmidt, daulton, and a few others. Only shane seems to have the drive to push himself to improve and stays sharp nearly every time I see him but position play, kicks, and safeties aren't on par with the pinoys. His break and shot making allow him to win sets vs anyone. Who knows where he'll be in a few years as his game continues to develop.
The main reason for those 2 countries having such great players is geography. The US is so big and our players so spread out. Nearly every top player over there lives in either Manila or taipae so they see each other and match up constantly. Another is the tougher conditions. Ten ball or rotation on tough humid tables or in Taiwan it's 9 ball on quadruple shimmed pockets.
The only other guys I think Really belong in the discussion are mika, the most consistent player lately and ralph soquet who may be the most consistent tournament player of the last 10-15 years.

nice list but gallego would get beat by archer or svb.
i beat him with the 8 ball playing 10 ball so you know he does not play that good.

This post should have said the top 10 9-ball players on the planet...

I think Archer and Shane have proven to be right up there. Shane beats about anyone for the cash and noone even tries to play Archer.

I believe Manalo, Gallego, and Kiamco all get played. US may not win, but SVB and Archer are not dogs against these three.

your right if this is top 10 money players johnny and shane are on that list. no doubt.

I am glad to see the different opinions on who belongs on the list . My list includes about 6 pinoy players , a few european shooters and a couple chinese cueists . To judge a players gambling for $ you have to have some action to base your comparisons on. Not much happening with that so all you can do is go by the opinion of people that have seen most of the best players in the world more than a few times . SVB is on my list because he is the most consistent of the americans . Now i don't have a bias against U.S. players . The problem is that pool is more respected in asia and europe than here and the stigma of being a pool player is hard to overcome in the U.S. Trying to get sponsors for players and tournaments is next to impossible .There is more money to be had having a normal job than playing pool for a living . A few can make it , but not enough to make the vast numbers of shooters that would like to try . In asia and europe they treat learning and teaching cue sports the same way they do for tennis or golf or baseball etc... Until we have that kind of respect for the sport the U.S. will continue to lag behind .

You made some valid points, and the USA will never have that kind of respect because we do not have 1 governing body for cuesports here. You have to have some type of ladder for players to climb before you get to the pros. Just as baseball has double A and triple A ballclubs before you get to the majors. And we have to have a legimate pro tour that ranks players, and pays them decently. I would like to see High School competition in Pool between High Schools and in College too.

My question is why aren't the Mark Griffins, Mark Wilson, and Jays in the Pool World doing something about this. They have the experience and the brains to do it for Pool. I, myself, have played 48 years, ran tournaments, have a couple of degrees, am a computer expert (my former profession), have good business experience, am on disability so I have time, and I am game to be part of it. Oh, and my big brother is a well respected attorney, a poolplayer, and open for any legal work.

Archer and SVB belong in the top ten. For what it's worth, either one of them are liable to beat Alcano too.

Agreed! And the Americans know it. If the asians came over here the americans would be shut out. They would be forced back to the basement to reinvent their game. Just look at what the pinoys alone have done. Even the pinoys fear and respect the young asians.

I do not believe your brain registered what your fingers just typed.

Johnny Archer is in the TOP 5 pool players walking on the face of the earth.
