Training/instructional videos made by instructors?

Well, it depends on what you mean by players. You mean top pros? Or just good players? You can't exactly instruct if you're not a "player" >_<

Bert Kinister is what I'd call an instructor more than a player. He CAN shoot but as far as I know he isn't doing pro tours or anything. I'm not even 100% sure if he's considered pro. He's made dozens of videos.

RandyG and Scott Lee have a two DVD set out. If that doesn't qualify, I don't know what would!

dr. dave,

i have seen volumes 1,2 and 3. they were done nicely, but they seem to be geared completely towards beginners.

T ... The funny part is that he doesn't even play pool. He plays 3-C! ...
Well, actually, he does play pool. The last time we played straight pool, he ran a 50 on me, and he recently set his personal high run of 70 or so (note to those who keep track of running your age).

Wow Bob...I would of said he played occasionally at best, but if he does that well at 14.1, he obviously has played a bunch!

I worked on the Video Encyclopedia of Pool Shots (VEPS) with Tom Ross, who is both a long-time "player" and "instructor." I also instruct periodically; although, I'm more of an "instructional author" who likes to play.

Wow, you must have extremely high expectations for beginners!

There certainly is a lot of information on Discs I-III that can help beginners, but there is also a lot of information well beyond what a beginner should be thinking about, IMO. I'd be curious to hear what others think about this also.

Many people don't master the English and Position Control stuff (Disc II) and the Safety Play and Strategy stuff (Disc III), even after playing pool for many years. I think everybody, even advanced players, can learn some things from these discs. Based on the overwhelming positive response we have received so far, many people of all skill levels are enjoying and learning from the series. I'm sorry if you did not. :frown:

FYI, here are some example testimonials from others.

Regardless, even if you already knew everything on Discs I-III, hopefully, you can still learn some things from some of the even more advanced stuff on Disc IV (Banks, Kicks, Advanced Shots) and Disc V (Skill and Specialty Shots).

Regards,
Dave

PS: Did you watch the entire discs, or just the sample clips I have posted online?

While Bob Byrne's books and videos are well done, he is not now, nor ever has been an "instructor". The funny part is that he doesn't even play pool. He plays 3-C! :grin-square:
Scott,

Maybe you didn't mean it this way, but your post seems a little disrespectful to me. :frown:

I think Bob Byrne has probably done more for pool learning and instruction than any other person on the planet. Isn't that why he was voted into the BCA Hall of Fame?!

Some of his books do have lots of three-cushion billiards principles and examples in them, but all of his books also contain lots of great information for pool players.

Respectfully,
Dave

Dave, today I took my son (2 y.o) to the public library. One of your books is availble there. Must say that suprised me.
That's a nice surprise for me also.

That must be a really good library! :grin-square:

Hopefully, you checked the book out for your son to get him started early. There are lots of full-color illustrations and photos to look at. ;)

Regards,
Dave

the entire discs. perhaps my post about "beginners" is a little too open ended. how about this, i would expect an apa skill level 4 or lower to gain info from these, but i think anyone who is a 5 or higher would find the info to be pretty obvious.

i don't mean any offense, im sure plenty of lower skill level players will gain a lot of great stuff to lower their learning curve.
