Trivia contest -- Minnesota Fats

... It was The Shots of Artistic Billiards........by Bob Jewett...:bow-down:
If it helps you to feel better, there are five shots in there I never made. The official shots have since changed partly because ivory is no longer the required ball material of the competition and that makes a lot of difference to some of the positions.

Or the real Fats that was a monster player sued by fats for using the name that fats stole from him? I obviously haven't seen the book. The real Fats was the player of the two.
Nick :)
No, I mean the other one. :p
Another item I saw along the way: the birth name of the original Minnesota Fats, by which I mean Walter Tevis' character in the book The Hustler (and also, I suppose, the movie). I had never thought about him having a real name. Maybe I saw it at one time reading The Hustler or the short story but it didn't register.

Well, I didn't have the excuse of not having the right equipment....
....Joe Burns of Dayton let me use a good set of ivory billiard balls.

..they made the table play a length faster

ps
Oh, and sorry to end the contest.....November 08, 1963

I'm not sure but I'll bet Fats could talk for two hours nonstop about how and when he got his social security number.

In researching for the answer, I came across a really cool read for $9.99 that you can download called "Wanderon." ---> HERE

Evelyn and Minnesota Fats in 1962. There's Minnesota Fats' Derringer.

The plot thickens, and I'm getting close. Just found this little nugget:

Hee-hee. ;)

I guess I will amend my earlier guess of "1964" to include amonth. September 12, 1964. :)

Hmmm.... I think we may have to limit the number of times the contestants can change their minds. New rule: everyone gets two guesses max, but anyone who has already guessed gets one more try.

Fats' SSN application form has a number that has been hand written (last four digits -- I think each office got a pool of consecutive numbers). That number is different from the number I saw quoted above, but only in the last digit.

Jennie, your latest guess is correct within four months, but not as close as a previous guess.

My first guess was only the year: 1964. Then I saw that people were inserting the month and day, so that is when I made a second guess of September 12, 1964.

You've given a pretty good hint, however, since my date is 4 months off. :grin-square:

Since I'm out of the running now, knowing I am 4 months off, I'll give a better tip to those still in the running: 4 months before September 12, 1964, is May 1964; and 4 monthws after September 12, 1964 is January 1965. :D

I deliberately did not insert the day of the month in my hint, leaving that for prospective winners.
