Tuesday Open Thread: Sky v. Alex and Efren v. Jose

If Alex is still in snooker stroke Sky wins. If Alex has been playing pool for a few weeks...I like Alex. Johnnyt

Biggest package

Does anyone know what's the biggest package ran in the tournament so far? I know Bergman probably ran a package in his 11-0 whitewash and I read in an article that Dechaine ran a 3 pack against Tony Drago. If anyone is to master the break, I bet on Mike. Hopefully he wins his first US Open this year! I'm rooting for Shaw, Dechaine, Shane, or Earl. Had to throw Shaw in there to not seem to biased towards the US of A.

Hey, I don't see anything wrong with rooting for USA, ALL THE WAY! ESPECIALLY at the U.S. Open. ;)

But I agree that Shaw seems like a nice kid. Last year, though, when he in the quarter finals, he did seem to have trouble controlling his emotions at the TV table. This is something that comes with experience, though. One should never let their emotions get the best of them when in the heat of the battle.

It will be interesting to see how he handles it this year.

I know Pinegar ran a 4 pack in his match on the TV table yesterday. If you watched and saw how tough that table was breaking you'd know that was pretty damn strong. Especially considering he was doing it by cutting the 1 in the side.

Sky's sweet mom, who is proud as punch of her son, said on FB that Sky is comfortable on TV tables with hot lights. This should be very interesting. I can't wait!

Let's not forget Sky's win at Derby City under the Accu-Stats lights. Winner of the Derby City Classic Banks ring game.

I agree, Ray. Derby is a wee bit more relaxed than the formal atmosphere of the Open. There will be pressure on everybody who plays on that TV table in the Open.

And the TV table does roll differently than the other tables because of those hot TV lights. :embarrassed2:

It doesn't get any better than this. Wow!

Alex is a veteran champion and has no fear in front of the camera. It will be interesting to see how Sky handles this kind of pressure. This is Sky's first Open.

Most know there is a wee bit of rivalry between Jose and Efren. IMO, Jose is, indeed, the leader of the Filipino Invasion, but Efren has received much more accolades than Jose Parica. There is a tension here. When Jose beat Efren in a California tournament about 10 years ago or so, he did not hide his glee. :D

This will be the match of the century. Efren is in dead-punch stroke right now, playing in many events. I have not heard much about Jose in recent times. Who do you like?

Agreed that these are wonderful matches. Alex is one of the very best to watch in our game. He has a unique blend of skill, imagination and charisma, and I wish the game had a few more like him. Woodward, at 21, is just starting to show us what kind of player he can be. He's already one of the top few bank pool players and is no slouch at the other games. He has a shot but will need to be at his best.

Efren vs Jose, what can I say? Jose will be inducted into the HOF on Friday evening. These are two of the legends of our game, but I think Jose may have a little more left in the tank than Efren. I'll pick Jose to win it.

We've got it going on at the US Open!

Very good observations, sjm. I like both Efren and Jose, but I do have a soft spot in my heart for Jose. He was so kind to Keith before Keith and I met, helping Keith get through some difficult times. Jose is a good friend.

Sky looks handsome in that beautiful rose-colored shirt. Looks good on TV. He's dressed very nicely.

He is practicing the break right now.

Who is that on the mic? It is Pat Fleming and somebody testing the mics.

They're talking about headsets. They should be using Beats Solo, of course. Everybody know Beats are the best.

Alex is nowhere in sight. Wow! I can hear Alex's voice, but he is not practicing like Sky is.

Mark Wilson and somebody named Billy commentating. Who is Billy? That is *not* Incardona.

Also, Mark Wilson said Sky is a bar table player, may not be qualified for Mosconi Cup. I did not care for that remark.

Sky is warming up, grew up around Buddy Hall, great player. Made quite a name for himself in the last years for the bar table championships he's won.

40-second shot clock. Alex walks in wearing a lime green shirt.

Very colorful match.

Race to 11, racking the 9-ball on the spot. Referee explaining the rules to Alex and Sky. Alex is already joking around, laughing. Looks like the two of them are comfortable around each other. No tension.
