Tuesday Open Thread: Sky v. Alex and Efren v. Jose

Sing it loud. He's Sky and we're proud. Sing it loud. He's Sky and we're proud.

Sky Woodward for 2014 Team USA!

I say again, Woodward is better than everyone else on that list with the exception of SVB and maybe Bergman. If you don't know that, you haven't been paying attention.

You are so right. Last two Calcuttas, that I know of, where both SVB and Sky were in, the open first bid went for Sky. Tell you anything? Ended up being smart money.

I know SJM will say they were only bar box tournys, but was Shane not a bar box player? Anyone that has seen Sky play knows he is not just a bb player. Gotta get over that just a bar box thing.

I would venture to say if the Mosconi 8 with Sky and Mike Dechaine thrown in were to play a round robin, race to 11, Sky would end up top five. As much as I like Jeremy Sossei's game I do not believe he would be in the top Five. Not at the bottom, but not top five. Also believe Shane would come out on top, but not without losing at least once. While I'm at it, in my opinion Mike Dechaine would be in the top Five.

Where is Billy Incardona this year? I miss him in the booth.

Billy did some commentary with us in Poplar Bluff a few weeks ago. The travel there really put the hurt on his back.

Everyone loved him and Nick Varner breaking down the games and sharing old stories. Good stuff.

Actually, I've never seen Woodward play on the bar boxes, only on nine footers. He's a fine player, but his results don't say he's one of the best nine ball players on the big tables quite yet.

Sky's in the conversation, but he's got more to do to prove his pedigree against the most elite Americans. Of the under-30 Americans at Derby City, most of them outplayed Skylar at this year' Derby City 9-ball, such as:

Dechaine tied 6th
Shannon Murphy tied 8th
Shawn Wilkie tied 13th
Justin Bergman tied 13th
Joey Gray, tied 13th

Sky didn't cash in the nine ball. It's your right to suggest that Sky has left his fellow American 20-somethings in the dust in 9-ball, but the facts don't back it up.

As I've said, though, if he makes a deep run this week, I may sing a different tune come this weekend.

sjm as much as I respect your opinion you really have not seen Sky play much lately. Just curious though as to your list of twenty something players which ones would you think would go before Shane in the Calcutta of any tourny they were both entered into?

JAM I HAVE NO FINGERNAILS LEFT...great written play by play. I'm stuck on this horrible firewall at work...thanks for the commentary. looking forward to seeing more.

Any word on the schedule for the TV table matches for tonight?

I don't see the list anywhere. They had the "TV" table matches listed for the first three today on their facebook photo. (really? a facebook photo of a large piece of paper...really?) But they the afternoon/evening matches don't specify table assignments yet. There may be some other list though that I just haven't seen.

Congrats to John Schmidt and Oscar Dominguez, both of them winning their afternoon matches.

I would love to see Bartram vs Mika for the 1030pm match tonight. Shuff vs Morris should be a good one too!
