Two Greatest Players

Dick move, but it is Jason Shaw.

I had him to my room the night before our regional tournament that is held at a casino. He matched up against another pro and was paid to do it. Played in my pro am tournament and made easy money there (only Earl ever refused because it was single elimination!).

Anyway on the way out this dude is outside his care smoking a J. Takes the trash out if his car, throws it in the parking lot and drives off....since then he's dogshit to me.
That'll do it.

this was a tournament not two playing in the poolroom.

in tournaments you use all the rules you can to win. there is no dick move it is a tournament move.

anytime you think a ruling may go your way, you call the ref. that is what he is there for.

i don't know what it should be, but the ball was scooped and went air born. right or wrong you should ask the ref.

and if you disagree with a ruling you try to state your case.

Your right, it was a Shaw move.
Richard was and should have never been involved.
But Shaw got outta his seat to tell the European MR ref to give em BIH, that's all.
And it worked. If the refs that good he would of Immediately called Foul.

He lives in his in laws house, I believe, and the pool hall was being owned and run by his Korean father in law long before Jason showed up. I don't think that the guy is completely supporting himself and family with that type of in law support. it is a nice life when you can run all around the world playing pool and have many of life's necessities taken care of for you. Few in life have such luxury - and we know that such a luxury can be good or bad.
Realistically guy pulls in what 52k playing pool?

What's the difference between a pizza and a pool player?
A pizza feeds a family of 4.

I'm think with sponsorship help he's doin' better than that.... If I had em on my payroll representing my billiard product, I'd confront him Now about his actions.

I wonder if sponsors now are paying expenses only or also including extra payroll cash to players- years ago the travel was mostly domestic and rooms/ etc were a much lower $ figure than it the costs today. A sponsor paying expenses to a world traveling player is already laying out big dollars.

sponsors will pay out only what they think their player will benefit them to their desired amount.
which may include recognition of the company.

Big clue something aint right is used to be players endorsed the product. Now the product endorses the players.

Seriously you are upset because he was asking the ref to do his job? Fkt if you dont like the rule it obviously was a rule.

Where'd you get that number from? 2021?
Have you been living under a cueball?

i know some years ago a top euro player got travel expenses + equipment/tables for his academy. but it will be tiered for sure. below the elite level it's probably more meager, unless you're very active promoting.

jayson it seems to me has never been as successful sponsor wise as his standing in the pool world merits. i don't know of any other players at his level that had to peddle cues like when he was sponsored by peri? that felt old school

Flashback, Mizerak did the same to me by not showing up to our match in Vegas on time, He was in with the Promoters.
I waited 15 minutes told TD, ah, oh..... we rescheduled your match.
That was that money move.
This Miz money move tho, was not anything like thee above, but close.
I remember that. I was one of the TD's. My co-TD and the promoter wanted to delay the match for Steve and I told them it was a forfeit even if he read the board wrong. We were at an impasse and I agreed to let them ask you if it was okay to delay the match. He told me you agreed to it.

Obviously not a foul. Both Jayson and the ref need to brush up on the rules. Sad to see a player bullying a referee to change a call that was correct in the first place and succeeding. Meanwhile, at the Hanoi Open, when Capito committed a super-obvious foul late in the quarterfinal of the Hanoi Open, Lechner remained seated while he expressed disagreement. In one of the more bizarre refereeing incidents I have ever witnessed, the non-call of a super-obvious foul was upheld AFTER a replay that made the foul indisputable.

At the Philippines Open in Manilla, a correct call was overturned in favor of a bad one. Incredibly, in Hanoi, a pathetic call was upheld, even after replay exposed just how bad the call was. Referees routinely tolerated doctoring of the cueball in the World 9ball.

It was a bad year all around for the referees at the Matchroom majors. To their credit, however, they were outstanding at the just-completed Mosconi Cup, and I hope it is a sign of good things to come in 2026.
I saw so much bad officiating this year it made me sick. I kept thinking where do they find these guys. I found myself focusing more on the refs than the match. I had to laugh in one tournament where the wandering ref kept obstructing the play of players on the next table. She would stand right where they needed to be to get down on the next shot, and the player is left waiting for her to move. She actually bumped one player as she was walking by. He was just getting ready to get down on the shot. She was cute though so I understand why they hired her.

This is about how some players deal with their moments in match play.
I was there in 80's/Denver Open, when the other Greatest won his match ''uncorking'' as his opponent pulled the trigger.
Recently I watched this match live.

Deja Vu.... the Move.
Seeing Shaw pull this move.... took me back to when I was on Colfax watching Chuey Rivera in real time lose with the move.
The above video at the 4+ minute mark, Ref should of kept non player seated.
Did the ref go see a replay of the shot?
That miscue shot was a legal miscue ''all day looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooongah"
But Mr Big got the ref to change the game.
If anyone disagrees, tell me why?
That's not a foul unless the cue tip contacts the cue ball twice. I didn't see that. I wouldn't have called it.
