Two months off

It is the longest I have ever taken off work since I started working at 13. It is the longest time I have ever gone with out walking (since I was two.)
It is the longest time I have gone with out playing pool and I miss it.

I get my cast off next Tuesday and I cant wait to try out my new stance;). Because of my surgery I have spent a lot of time on this forum and it has helped me pass the time but it is time to find my game again.

Thanks AZ world for giving me something to do and keep me from going stir crazy.

Never heard what happened or what the surgery was on. I had a pin put in my leg 3 years ago, I was laid up for 3 months without walking then another month in a walking cast took me a full year to start playing basketball and running again. You doing much physical theoropy? I feel ya though, it can be a nightmare.

Hey Cuebuddy:

Sorry to learn of your recent woes. Once you hit the comeback trail, I've got a table and fully stocked bar. Table time and drinks are on the house. I'm in Golden now, fyi.

Is that a radial or 3/8x10?:p:(. I truly am sorry to see that. My wife has her right ankle pinned together as well. Not nearly as serious as your's. I hope all will go well for you. And above all I hope the pain is minimal. May God bless you and have a Merry Christmas.

You got some serious equipment now! Pool players always looking for new equip. Might tell your surgeon he might have used a G-10 in that ankle. Technology you know! Good luck with your game.

I am able to put almost 100 pounds on it now and it feels solid, the bones are fusing well and most of the pain is gone. It will be good to get back to work, I am lucky to have a great job and good insurance.

Thanks Mark, the Doctor that did the work has done hundreds and most of those have been pro athletes so I feel lucky. Merry Christmas.

You saved my life, man I was so sleepy that night we talked on the phone when I was driving across the desert. I slept 14 hours when I got to LA. It was a long drive.

I will give you a call when I get back from Europe, after the first. I hope your up and around 100% by then

Happy Holidays,

Eric

That makes me queasy just looking at it. Will any of those pins come out some day? I remember when my daughter broke her elbow right at the joint when she was only 13. She had to get two (3?) pins put in the elbow socket to hold everything together. When the day came for the doctor (Todd Grant, a well known orthopedic specialist who also worked on athletes from UCLA, the Lakers and some pro football teams. Sad to say he had a heart attack and died way too young), I went with Heather and watched as he pulled hard to remove the pins. He actually put his knee (and he was a big guy) against her elbow at one point. When I started to faint, they had to take me out of the room. What a wuss!

Good stuff, unless you are like me. I broke my left leg in 4 places and just when I got my cast off and was walking with a cane, fell on an icy side walk and re broke one of the breaks. Always an option if you need more time off work.
Other than that, walking around a table is great therapy.
Merry Christmas.
Terry.

Cuebuddy,

The x-ray you posted looks like the doc left a butter-knife and other assorted metalic apparatus in there! Mumma-mia, THAT'S a screw!

All your pals here at AZB wish you a total recovery and continued good health now that, hopefully, the hardest part of this ordeal is over for you.

On a personal note, I worked from when I was 11 until Aug 30, 2008. A surgery, massive infection in the spine and then another surgery has ended my work career. The worker's comp docs all agreed with my docs in their conclusion. Good side, I get to be a full-time housewife now. :D Bad news, my annual income is going to be approx 40% of what I was making, with an even bigger hit each year down the road, since the disability amount is fixed. My pool game had peaked & I was shooting as good as I ever had, with intentions of going to & playing in, my 1st ever DCC in 2009.
Wasn't to be. My game is still about a ball, ball & a half off. But, my washing of clothes, dishes & other assorted housewife chores can spot anybody 10-7! :D

Said all that to hopefully make you giggle a little! What's important is that you gain your health back and stay strong. What's fun is playing our favorite sport and posting about it here at AZB!

You've made lots of friends here by the way.

God bless you cuebuddy!

You said that in a way that was kinda funny!

Reminded me when I got my first Lumbar Epidural Injection. I'm laying face down wide awake and had been instructed to stay perfectly still while the doc puts a needle into your spine. I was determined to be a statue laying there, wasn't going to blink an eyelid. Then one of the nurses is standing by my head and is soft talking me. I looked at her and she's wearing a string of smelling salt packets around her neck! I said "What the heck is them for?" She said "It's just a precaution honey."
Turns out it was no big deal. Sounds worse than it really is.

Jay the pins will stay in unless they bother me, the doc said he could take the smaller ones out. The idea of a DeWalt drill and worn out Phillips bit is enough to make me faint:eek:. As far as being a wuss check out my Fibia front view(better sit down first).

Thanks Terry. One of my reasons for starting a thread like this was to thank the people on AZ know the powers of friends and a sense of community albeit an online community. My game was strong right before this operation, I had just won a tourney in Denver and was feeling good. With the amount of pool match's I have watched in the last two months I am well versed in how the big dogs play the game. Good luck with your new or renewed career, I know you will be great at it. By the way I have your number on my phone and will shoot you a call after the holidays.
