Just wondering if anyone else knows of a player that had their winnings check from the Open bounce the first time around.

So you know of a player who had a basketball check? About how big was the check in event you don't want to disclose the player's name?

Oy Vey...

Not comfortable about disclosing player's name right now. But I am talking about last week's Open and this player finished in the top 10. Just curious as to whether it happened to anyone else anybody knows of.

i think the US Open is a great tournament, but this nonsense has to stop. If that means Barry and Shannon stop running to tournament, or it going by the way side then so be it. These things cannot keep happening. The US Open has always been surrounded with controversy. It's truly unfortunate.

Press Release from front page:

Barry Behrman Makes Statement About U.S. Open Prize Fund

"It is with regret that I have to announce that due to a lack of seating (that I admit I did not properly envision) that I am having to delay the prize payments to my top 6 finishers at the U.S. Open. Shannon and I had many extra expenses this year such as building the wooden risers for the seats, and that along with the large storm that forced many to leave the event early caused a major problem with our receivables. We were unable to provide proper seating for many fans and this caused us to come up between $20-30,000 short of our projections in the $10 all day and $10 all night ticket category alone. This was a major source of the shortfall. Another source is my insistence on adding the full $60,000 that I promised to add prior to having the difficulties explained above.

We expect all debts to be covered within the next two weeks. We still have sufficient revenues coming in from the event and will pay the money out as quickly as it comes in.
Finally, we hear you and agree with you. Next year we will be in one big room for the whole tournament again. It just works better for everyone and we have learned from our mistakes.

By Barry Behrman - 2012-10-31"

This makes NO sense. They must be about $70k + short. If the added $$ is $60k then he is still $10k off.
Barry, sell the US Open to Griffin.

And what was even more surprising was the problems with seating. After 25 yrs this makes NO sense, just reminds me of.......................a bad dream.

plain and simple this is not fair to the players. If Shane or any of the others who had a check coming asked BB before the event "Can I pay my entry after the tournament I have had a shortfall" He would tell them "NO WAY!" But somehow its acceptable to short them their money after it cost them maybe $2,500 just to be there and compete.
If this was the first time at a new venue with a stellar track record I am sure nobody would be happy but would be more forgiving. This is a constant problem and its not as easy forgiven when its always the same.

I wonder if this is a realistic possibility.

I doubt Mark is in a position to comment on this, as it's so fresh off the press and such a delicate matter. But when is enough enough?

I LOVE the US Open and have been genuinely grateful for Barry's efforts, but this type of thing could possibly kill the top caliber of next year's field. In which case, who's going to want to spectate and who's going to want to be a vendor?
