No Jesters...because there never was $60,000 of it in the first place. $4,000 is player entries.
The entries were real money put up by the players. The $60,000 added money is a promise from Barry. There is a huge difference.
I understand that the 4k is actually the players money that went in and should be accounted for. You are correct but I mean there should be some kind of accounting for the other $60k.
This is disgusting, the more I think about it.
It's not even that the top 6 players are being paid later or whatever, it's just that they were given bad checks.....that's the part that's weak...If he would have just said, hey guys we over extended ourselves so we will have your payments in 2 weeks, that would have been at least better...It was also a bit of a Jerry Springer moment for Barry to say he's been clean from substance abuse for 10 years in his speech and then say in the same breath, but I am going to have some drinks tonight"-)??? What kind of program is he working...I quit smoking crack, now I just do lines#@$^%:grin::grin:
Well looks like Barry beat the over/under I heard it was the top 16 wouldn't get paid. Hopefully, this will bring the demise of Barry Behrman's US Open. It has gone on too long. I6t took him 25 years to make a world class event out of it and about 10 to junk it out. The problem is his ego won't let him turn it over to a business man who could turn it back into a world class event. If during the 90s when it was growing and doing so well he had taken the profits and created a trust to support the event it would be self supporting. But rather than wasting the money that way he spent it on drugs, gambling, drinking and whores. Oh by the way, I have a hard time buying into the short fall idea since I have been a TV table season ticket holder for 25 years including 9/11 and hurricane Isbell
The $60,000 is just like a come bet on a dice table. If things work out you get paid. Every year there is talk of barry posting the added before hand. Every year it doesnt happen.
The only reason players still go is for the title and because Barry does eventually pay. After all the heartache and controversy last year and now this after everyone thought it was worked out....its just bad.
Barry is the ultimate bullshitter. I dont think there is any malice in his heart at all. He just says whatever he thinks people want to hear without ever paying much attention to what that ends up being.

What would happen if lets say the winning Golfer at the Masters tourny and the top six were given bad checks? Ya think that would be in the NEWS--Sounds like for Barry to get the message ,the Chesapeke News organization needs to get a full dose of this crap---One of the most prestegious tourny's that comes up once a year and ya have this for the grand Finale---There's got to be some news in this that the people in Chesapeke would find very disturbing--there are fine people in that city and very powerfull as well.

I agree with you about there being no malice in Barry's heart. He just really needs to figure this thing out with the paying players:smile:. This game is such a difficult one and I really feel bad for a player that grinds his way through, beats a bunch of champions and receives a bad check for it. If you are playing in a tournament and you aren't sure if you will be paid or not if you win it, that can mess with your head in a major way and be totally distracting to your play....
This is a well known issue to everyone who cares about it.
Barry could give a shit what the local news says. The only people who matter are the players and people who pay to watch. They all know the event has been as fvcked up as a football bat for years.
People who post "Barry needs to learn a lesson" simply do not know Barry. Normal people do not do the shit he has done to run this event for thirty years. The dude is not normal. That comes with down sides.
The only way Barry "learns a lesson" is all the players dont show. Then the Open is dead. Lesson learned.

The guys all know he will pay them, who knows how long it will take but he pays. They also know if they go after him legally they probably wont get anything. End of the day its like an election...choose the lesser of two evils.
The thing everyone fears is going to happen probably will happen sonner or later and that is that one year he wont or cant pay and that all the last US Open 9 ball champion wil have to show for it is a big check and a trophy. I hope that never happens and he gets his shit together but I'm not holding my breath.

No I'm saying this crap has been going on for years and trying to blame it on one years turnout is a joke. It would be like judging all your broadcasts based on one event. This is not the first time the checks have bounced. Barry has ruined a great event and sucked the money up his nose.
Bill...Ironically, Rob Johnson is the President of the BCA for another two years, at least. BTW, they don't handle the HOF or the dinner. That's all handled by others now. Just thought you should know.

I like what you do Justin with the TAR matches. The players don't wait for checks to come in the mail. It's cash on the spot with the best in the world and that's why I am a repeat offender on buying the streams:grin: I'm not comparing your thing to anyone.....just sayin'
Thx Scott, since do have the HOF event at the Open, and since the BCA inducts and credits those who have attained this, seems like a natural to evolve the BCA into making this business model move forward, it will benefit our entire industry.
