Thanks for the link Mr. Logan and I'm sure that Barry's decision will shake the tree and we will see what falls out. I am thinking that many of the past winners will not give away there free lifetime entry since Barry is doing what he can to make sure the players get paid at the event, it would be a shame for Shane to miss the Open. Since Archer is the head spokesman I guess you can stick a fork in him cause he's done, so there will be a little more lint on the tables.--Leonard

I'm not clear on this. Is he negating his offer to post entry for all previous champions as of the time of the statement, or at a future time if the boycott continues?
 
The offer demonstrates a reasonable effort (to me) that the funds would be available at the conclusion of the event. Seems like that would qualify as a "win" for the ABP...that could serve as a stepping stone to better financial security at future events, right?

IMO, they could shake hands now, make it known that the ABP is happy with the efforts Barry made, make it known that the ABP is happy to be participating in such a vital tourney, & make it known that the same (or better) accomodations are expected next year.

What more could the ABP want?

No, just negating the offer to past US Open champions that support and participate in the boycott. Barry just double-dog-dared them.

Agreed !! very reasonable, so much that even both sides could declare victory and save some face. As they say in show biz, the "show must go on"..........
 
This feels like it will be a long waiting period till the US Open events take place. A story like this is media madness. It is great the two groups finally had their first pow wow discussing their concerns.
 
Alot of the US Open champs on that list should have thought real long and hard about gift horses and mouths before they went along with this. Many of them have saved many thousands if dollars due to Barry paying their entry into the event for decades.

I do not blame Barry in the slightest on this, of course he was going to revoke this gift when they spit in his face like this.

The article says that he feels that he has no choice but to negate the offer to those past champions that participate in the boycott. That's about as crystal clear as he could put it. IMO, he's not bluffing.
 
It appears to be the right hardball stance to me. At its current pace, the ABP will dissolve in a year or two and then all of the players will go back to playing in the US Open. They won't grovel back because of the entitlement they will feel that should still be bestowed upon them, but some of them should be groveling.

Let me make it simpler:

OPTION 1:
Past champion on the list & no show this year, NO FREE future entries.

OPTION 2:
Past champion on the list & shows this year, FREE future entries.
