Unknown wood - cue

Does anyone out there recognize the wood in the forearm and butt of this cue? Someone said it might be "Palmwood"?? Cue has kind of a funny story. Anyone recognize the signature on the cue??

Looks like a Huff cue signature. I think his name was Dennis Huff? I just remember some controversy with him. Can't quite tell from the pics but it does look like red Palm wood.

You might have a rare cue! David Huff was the most notorious cue salesman around for a while. His big deal was that he sold cues and didn't deliver. Since you actually have one that did get delivered, I would think it would be rare. Nice red palm!

This article shows you need to watch out for all you people out there ripping people off, it will and can come back to you, wish we would have more people going after these crooks making examples of them. :smile:

his other deal, every cue he sold was "damaged" during shipping.
EVERY CUE. not just the occasional real possibility
never did find those chips /chunks / flakes from the finish inside the packing though
i wonder why?

I bid on EBAY for this cue that was being sold by a guy named "TONY BROWN". The add stated that it was a beautiful SW style cue, comparable to a $1,000 SW. The bidding never went real high, so I gave my highest bid. Someone locally outbid me, so I forgot about it. Three days later, I get an e-mail from Mr. Brown, stating that the orig buyer had backed out and opted to buy a higher priced cue that he had (locally). He asked me if I still wanted it. I said yes, then he proceeds to tell me that he had a problem with PAYPAL and would prefer a money order. The amount was minimal, so I said, ok. The photos shown on EBAY were dark and very deceiving. I had NEVER had any problems on EBAY, so I guess I was expecting the same from this one. Well, I received the cue. Someone had tried to refinish the cue. There was clearcoat spread all over the linen wrap, and the butt was "eggshelled". I almost threw the cue away. The coating was so bad, I thought that the butt was painted, as I did not recognize the wood. I wrote a return e-mail to the guy and told him that I did not return items that I bought. However, I was going to tell everyone I know NOT to buy from "TONY BROWN". I got no response.
I took the cue to Jim Pierce (Pierce Cues). He refinished the cue and put a textured leather grip on the cue, and....WOW.. I NOW have a very nice SW style cue with a great shaft. Long story short, If this guy was selling for Huff, (who the money order was payable to), I have nothing against Huff. If HUFF is actually the one who was selling, then he's still up to his old tricks.
I did end up with one hell of a nice cue, but not without effort.
Thanks for the replies, guys. I'd really like to hear some of the stories from people who have dealt with Mr. Huff in the past. I'm curious about what kind of work he really did (on cues that is!).
