UPA Pro Tour Championships

JH,
I heard from one of Ronnie's "creditors" that Ronnie paid what was owed several weeks later at DCC (but I know I would have been hot if I had to wait that long to get paid).
There has been some crossed wires about this. This is what happened.

Shane played Ronnie in Reno after the Open this year. They played one pocket for $400 a game. Since they were (we thought) friends they were playing on the wire. After Shane got 5 games up we asked Ronnie to pay and Shane would keep playing. He claimed that his money was " in the box " the hotel safe and when they were done he would settle up. Shane kept playing.

The end result, Shane wins 10 games for a total of $4000. Ronnie airs us. We see him in DCC and I make it known that I was up for part of the set and that I find it unacceptable that he is gambling with everyone in the joint while owing me and my friends a good amount of money. He and I agree he will have till the end of the tourny to put it together.

On Friday night he pays us $1500. After we chop it up, I am paid in full. Shane is still owed the remaining balance.

I originaly did not want to put this up. But if we are gonna talk about it we might as well get it right.

hey jay, how is Hemmah playing. the brackets show that he lost but got moved to the next round as if he won. what is the story on that?

JC,
I had NO IDEA that everyone did not get paid (though if I owed several people, I would consider it a matter of self-preservation to make sure I paid you first).

This is DESPICABLE!!!! With all the press Ronnie has been getting recently, I find a conspicuous absence of the word "slime-ball". Perhaps that should be changed. I'll bet you $20 he would have been happy to take Shane's money if he had won (you can just pay me next time you see me).

P.S. - was there ill will during the UPA match between the two of them?

This is why most pro's are broke most of the time. They play other pro's for large amounts of money that either one could win. A lot of them have got to have the action like it's dope. A fair amount of them give too much weight just to get a game. They would come out much better if they just played local shortstops giving them the 8 for $20 a game. Johnnyt

I too would also place a wager on Shane to beat Wiseman. ;)  Any takers?

Tanner, you and I are lucky to have any money left in our pockets. Ronnie 11-6 over Shane. Still, I like Shane's style.

live pool?

as in not recorded? as in every other sport on planet earth?

as in not having to scour the internet to find you tube clips or ESPN listings featuring two year old WPBA tournaments?

yeah, I might like that

Who is this guy that got beat by Landon Shuffett 11-0?!?

Also, Frank Alvarez... I played this guy in a weekly tournament in Boise one time and beat him and was not impressed with his play at all. I think he is in some kind of leadership position in the UPA, but he is nowhere near the level to be invited to BCA Open every year like he has been. When I see some of the guys that are not invited and this guy is... that's fishy. He goes 2 & out everytime I see him in a tournament.

He is currently President of the UPA. I guess that's some kind of leadership position.

Shane does not talk to Ronnie now. Wonder why?

Sorry, I am NOT involved in running this tournament. Scott Smith and Marty Rimlinger are, and did the draw. It was all done in front of everybody.

I knew it. That Scott Smith... Sure -- he's the same guy who pulls me off the TV table in the middle of my match when I'm playing the best pool of my life for some stinking bank pool ring game and then my game goes right in the toilet. And now..... well, somehow he probably, might have heard that I was pulling for Tony Crosby. :D :D
JoeyA (building up my credits with Scott).

Efren went hill hill with Wiseman and lost. Schmidt went hill hill with Raj and lost - more upsets?

According to the brackets on AZ Tyler Edey has beat Rodney Morris, this would probably be considered an upset by alot of people.

not to us calgarians.im surprised edwins not there.

Efren plays Tang tomorrow. If he wins there, he gets the winner of Rodney and John S. And that's the Loser's bracket. Almost everyone seems to be having trouble with the tight Brunswick Metros. Another tough losers match saw John Schmidt knock out Rafael.

Only Johnny and Francisco seem to cruising right now. Several players have complained about the woeful prize money. 10K for first and 5K for second. 3K for third, on down to 1K for 13-16. And that's it. Not much, for having such an elite field. Quite a comedown from the million dollar purses of last year (paid or not). These are not happy campers here. The total purse here - about 40K! UGH! The state of men's pro pool in America - SAD.

Regarding the Wiseman payoff?

How could you take money from Ronnie for the set that he and Shane played and NOT split it with Shane?

That's despicable if that's what happened.

I mean, it's really crappy to let Shane do all the work and not give him his share of what is paid out. I am referring to the line where it is said that Shane is still owed from the session but that the other guy is paid in full.

HOW can it be that THE PLAYER doesn't get paid at ALL but the people who weren't playing but were in on the bet get paid? If I were Shane I wouldn't let these guys ANYWHERE near my action ever. I I ever saw them betting on one of my matches I might even dump them on purpose. (just kidding but I find this too be in INCREDIBLY BAD TASTE)

I ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS take care of my horse FIRST when chopping up the cash. If a guy pays off ANYTHING then I either give it all to my horse or we split it as agreed on. And I don't want to hear any BS about Shane having so much of the bet and so and so having so much of it. Whatever the percentages of the bet are is EXACTLY how ANY payment should be split up.

Now, I propose that we coin a NEW TERM for people who air barrel and the pay off in installments. We call them an IPT. As in what are you, the IPT? Or sorry, I don't play IPT style, you gotta post. To a backer whose shorts his players, don't get all IPT on them letting them do all the work while you keep all the money.

--- I HOPE Shane got some of the money ---- I gambled with Ronnie once and beat him, the first five games going to 11. :-) I lost 11:5. I don't think he would have stiffed me for the $300 but he was probably NEVER worried about losing and having to pay off either. :-)

I have never seen so many missed balls at a Pro event. The tables are tight and frankly the lighting over them is really bad. Really bad. One players words " I can't see " The lights are basically 4 bare bulbs in fixtures suspended over the table. Shadows are really bad. Heard many comments from many players.

I think the equipment has alot to do with some of the upsets. The way the tables play, when you miss, most of the time the ball hangs in the jaws. Saw lots of 7,8, and 9's missed.

Whoever adapts the best to the conditions will have a real good shot here.
