Players, especially up and coming ones like Shane should know better than to put themselves in these situations. Ronnie is a notorious degenerate gambler. Anyone who keeps up with pool knows this to be true. So from my perspective, its kind of hard to feel bad for Shane or his backers. Its just part of being involved with seedy gamblers.

TB,
I believe that your sentiments on "posting up" are very accurate.

I'm not so sure that Ronnie's reputation is as sullied as you believe. He has figured in some very prominent news stories on this forum (and there are a MULTITUDE of people here who "keep up with pool"), and I have not heard a whisper of "air barrel" in his rep. He won an IPT qualifier last year - no mention; he won a recent tournament - no mention; he is now on the front page of AZB for his defeat of Efren - no mention. A search on AZB showed nothing (if you search Earl or Tony Ruberto you can find a LOT more negative comments).

Perhaps his accomplishments in the "air barrel" department deserve as much, if not more, recognition as those in the tournament area.

You folks that knew this in advance did a grave disservice to the rest of us by not mentioning it.

I believe that was the match at the US Open 2 years ago, Shane had a big lead and Schmidt went to the restroom never to return. Shane won the match by forfeit. Someone else stopped by and collected Schmidts things.
Shane called me and was up 7 to 1 3 fouled schmidt and schmidt made a comment aout shanes game being inferior and left! shane didnt no how long to wait and just went up and told the US OPEN tourny staff they foreited him! yep Mr. Schmidt is a class act! and i will say there was a phone call from mr. schmidt to shane not that long ago! and shane wasnt impressed with what was said! it had to do with respect not being given to the US OPEN champ! the same champ that a year earlier WALKED OUT OF THE TOURNY! bet all you people that praise mr. schmidt didnt know that did you! as for the phone call to shane, you want respect you have to earn it! just like shane does everytime he compeats or meets new people! Shane is the gentleman in this situation! i asure you of that! as for mr. schmidt get it raised and bet it! then you will get what ur after,RESPECT! and more than you bargined for in my opinion! good day!

That Shane is deaf? So how could he talk on the phone? Just asking, don't want a war or nothing...

He has a hearing aid and hears pretty well with it. He turns it off when he plays though and i'm sure it helps with his concentration that way.

It would be interesting to hear John's side of it.

It wasn't the first time or the second time.

JB,
Surely the matter of Shane and the backers agreement is none of our business. The player and backers came to an agreement with which everyone was happy. This is a non-issue.

The REAL issue is a prominent player (RONNIE WISEMAN) firing an air barrel. I don't care whether he pays in the future or not. I find his behavior reprehensible. I will never root for him. I will never gamble with him. I will encourage all acquaintances to never gamble with him. Even if he posts, such a person would cheat or steal to triumph. Pool has far too many of this type of character; and far too few like Shane.

What are your thoughts on the air barrel?

I think it's a shitty thing to do, especially when you didn't have it to begin with. I have fired a few in my time but that was usually AFTER I was stuck big time and it was the last set. I always paid off VERY quickly.

Now there WAS one time when I was stone cold drunk in Vegas and I was hustled pretty good by a good player who knew I was too far gone to be a threat to drop a ball and have it hit the floor much less win a game. I lost Something like $1400 and paid it off in 3 years on purpose even though I had the money in my pocket when I lost. Now, I will take the blame for playing while I was drunk, but I won't forgive my "friend" for taking advantage of me. So he had to wait a little while for the cash.

Now, I will take back what I said as pertains to Shane's action between him and his buddies. The way it read to me was that one of the backers got all his money while Shane didn't. Apparently the backer is still owed as well although he didn't relate it this way.

I still stand behind the idea though that the player shouldn't be IN with his own money unless he has ALL of the action.

Having said that I have been happy to let my friends in on my action and been ecstatic when we win and heartbroken and sick when we lose. I guess that's why pool success is the high you can't buy. Winning is better than any drug but you have to earn it.

You are off base here. These are good guys who do a lot to help Shane and ensure that he gets to tournaments. They are here now and remain close friends with Shane. There is some conversation starting about a big match up between Shane and John Schmidt. Who do you like?

It wouldn't be the first time. The way it was related just struck me funny that's all. I am sure Shane and his backers are totally cool with each other.

Who do I like? For playing ability it's a toss up for me. For heart I'd have to say I like Shane a little better. Both Shane and John participate in this forum which I think is awesome. Shane however has never asked for a nickle here to support him. John did and while I applaud that as a smart move on his part in the business sense I think it speaks more to Shane's heart and support that he has people already lined up to put him in whatever match he cares to play.

I don't know John too well but he has always been pretty friendly whenever we happened to be in the same space. Shane I have played a little with and he's very cordial and quiet. He just gets the job done without a lot of extra fluff. So I'd have to bet my heart and take Shane for a couple hundred even though I feel it's more of a coin toss.

Just for everyone's info., Shane offered to play John in Atlanta and John declined. I'm not saying that Shane would win, but I'm just telling you what I saw. Shane beat everyone on that triple shim diamond including giving the 8 to Tony Watson and Troy Frank. Beat everyone that is, until Corey stepped up and GAVE Shane the 8 and beat him.

BTW- No one has asked the obvious i don't think. How do you have a Tour Championship without a tour?

While I'm sure that the story is at least partially true. You know the old cliche, "There's always two sides to a story".

But REALLY, isn't a two year old story a little old for this forum?

How about some current information or better yet, just stop dragging up old washed clothes for additional inspection. It really is getting old with forum members like you and the other guy dragging up old dirt on players two years old.

If you want to gossip let's gossip about current news.

BTW, I like Shane and think he is a great guy. He's welcome in my town ANYTIME!

What were the tour events? I cant think of any. They dont even seem to have a website currently. Who is leading the tour? I think they put a sanction stamp on maybe 2 tournaments but i wouldnt call that a tour.

I had to comment on this topic. John Schmidt is a great player and very rythmic with his game and his pace of play. Shane VAn Boening is rather slow if you ask me. Their styles of play drive one another crazy. The three foul move just drove John over the edge. In the 10 years I have been watching "PRO LEVEL POOL" I have never seen a "3 Foul" and John must have felt that Shane should gun him down and run out, there is only 7 balls on the table at most and "HE HAS BALL IN HAND". I would be pissed off too!

Some players are just scared of john and play scared! Some get up there and want to play mind or head games with the "VERY SLOW PLAY". When you can shoot at a pro level and then play scared or play head games is just not called for! Either you have the Billiard Balls to win or not!

John Wins Tournaments! Shane wins money sets! They both thrive in different arena's. To call john out to gamble when the man is looking for backers to do what he loves by playing and winning tournaments is just a little too out of line! He has nothing to prove. he has won his fair share of money matches and tournaments. Shane can't say that about both arena's.

Just my two cents!

hi

i would like to give my side of the story because believe me there is one to be told.first of all the reason i quit in the middle of the match with shane was an hour earlier i lost 1000 on the golf course.so now i come in to play my match with shane and he misses the 8 and 9 ball three games in a row and gets safe everytime and gets ahead of me 7-1 so i went outside to relax for a minute and out of aggravation went back to my room and watched golf .thats not to say it was the right thing to do but i was in a bad mood.it had nothing to do with shane.as for big nastys remarks i would be glad to tell you what was said.i have had close friends call me twice in the last year telling me that shane has said i have no heart, and another friend saying that he had dinner with him and a bunch of other people at the same time.my friend said to me that someone asked shane if he ever had played me and shane said something to the effect of yeah i robbed john for 2000 the one time we played.now i know for a fact that the only time ive played shane was at the usopen and he missed like six balls in five games and i quit in disgust.further more corvette mentioned that he asked meto play in atlanta.he did and you know what he asked me to play 8ahead and i said i would play a race to 21 for 3000 and he declined.now i was sick as a dog that tourney, but i did not want to say that in front of everyone because it would sound like a lame excuse. as a matter of a fact shannon daultons wonderful girlfriend marge got me a z pack of antibiotics i was so sick.now i told shane that, but i said i would still play, but instead he goes around telling everyone i wont play.well ive got some things in order in my life right now and i been practicing for almost a week now.im at the tour championships right now in cali and i have a backer in victorville .he owns a poolroom there and he told me that he will stake me ten ahead for 5000 and the locals want to bet more on me,well anyway i told jay helfort to tell shane i will play.shane is staying with jay i also told shane i would play.shanes response was ill think about it.so we willl see what happens.i do want to clear some things up though, first of all shane is a great guy and a great player and i will feel thrilled and honered if i beat him in a ten a head set.but i did tell him that he should show me some respect and quit saying i have no heart because ive played many guys even who play just like him.anyway i know that was long and drawn out but i would hope you guys give me the benefit of the doubt and dont think i call people and say hey i won the usopen respect me ,fear me,youve got to be kidding bignasty if you think i worded it like that.also you talk about respect bignasty well ill tell you what ,if shane would like to play one-hole,14.1,and say the 12ball ghost against me we can find out real quick whos the best all around player i already know i play better all around on a 9ft. so i guess we will just play a lucky game like 9ball and gamble. if he beats me playing all around i will have respect .anyway i hope that sheds some light on things and i have no hard feelings towards shane or corvette or even big nasty although bignasty does seem to be going out of his way to make me look like a jerk.talk to everybody later john schmidt

so.....

well i cant remember EVER hearing shane talk down about you or your ability! and i have never heard him say anything about playing you for the money! anybody that reads these forums has read that we would all like to see you and shane play for the dough! several different times ive posted we would love to see that match up! as for my previous post, stated you walked out on your match with shane, you did! stated you called shane, you did! stated you mentioned a lack of respect on his part! never once has he mentioned anything but the truth about your match! you walked out disrespecting him! fact! and as for your ability as an all around player, you dont have to tell everyone your a better all around player than shane, you are a top pro! shane is an up and coming player, not a champion yet! becouse you have to beat a champion to be 1! i know i hope he gets the chance to get "lucky"against you again! this time! after all you have everything in your life straightend out, and have been playin alot getting ready for this tourny! so mr. schmidt i hope you and shane have a chance to play becouse you are surely the better player YOU have already told us that! and if by chance shane was to upset the odds on favorite, youve already mentioned that 9 ball is a "lucky" game so evan if he wins it was luck! john you are the defending us open champion at 9 ball! you must be a lucky man! well i truley wish you the best of luck at everything you do! i do hope you get to play shane! i think it will be good for his game, and maybe for yours also! you have to respect someones game that can elavate yours to its highest level! good luck Mr. Schmidt with everything you do!

John,
I wasn't implying anything with my post. I was only stating what I saw with my own eyes in Atlanta. I also put that I have no idea who would win. I don't even know Shane and since we talked in depth in Atlanta and buried the hatchet, I feel like I know you a lot more than most of the other champions out there. That being said, I would bet on your end simply because of that.
Take Care
