Nothing really to report. I'm just jealous of all the stuff going on in Des Moines.

If anyone lives in Southwest Michigan and you know about any tournaments or you just hide out somewhere in the area (like me) let me know maybe we could meet up somewhere and sometime.

Merry Christmas to all.

Come down to Niles or Mishawaka

The new Golden Cue just reopened in a new location in Mishawaka...it's very nice..10 gold crown IXs and 6 barboxes..or the Billiard Garden in Niles has been there for years...you should be able to find action at either place. What do like to play?

Breakroom in Grand Rapids, Sun., sign up by 6:45, $5 entry, handicapped 9 ball.

Chalkies in Holland, Sun, I think about noon or 1 pm., handicapped, $20 entry???

That's all I know of. What part of sw Mi are you in???

edit: Just looked up where you are. You're way down there! You would have better luck checking out Indiana tournaments.

Thanks Neil. I'm not opposed to driving an hour or so. This past Sunday I went up to Playtime Billiards in Kalamazoo. GR is about 1:20 for me, so I would even do this once in a while.

Thanks for the info.

I will have to check out the new Golden Cue - sounds great. I snuck over to the Billiard Garden a couple of weeks ago one night and I asked the owner if their was anyone that played regularly out of there and he didn't have much to say. I would be willing to go over there to play some.

As far as what I like to play - I have been hearing a lot about this nine ball game and would be willing to try it if someone would be willing to teach me the rules ;)

I'm not really much of a gambler but I do some cheap sets here and there to keep my opponent interested.

I used to live in Battle Creek 10 years ago and they had a very nice pool hall called "The Billiard Cafe" that had tournaments and lots of action. Was run by professional Jayme Goodwin. Not sure if he runs it any more.

I think it is called the "Brickyard Pub" now

There's a weekly tournament in muskegon at a bar called the Doghouse its on saturday at 3 and it switches between 8 and 9 ball

You must have went to the Garden on a Friday night...have you ever played 3-cushion billiards? They have 2 heated tables at the Billiard Garden...Dwight will show you how to play too...it's a much better game than 9 ball imo...but a lot harder to win.

So when is the best time to check out the Garden? I actually went there on a Thursday night but the weather was pretty bad that night so I was the only person in the place.

As far as 3 cushion is concerned - I'll pass. I spent several hours on a billiard table one night and I couldn't even manage to find the pockets . I'll stick with pocket billiards.

I do appreciate watching 3 cushion played at a high level but that's about it for me.

Thanks

Just wanted to post a little update:

I managed to get out of the house for the first time in months. I ran up to Playtime Billiards in Kalamazoo and played in their Sunday 9-Ball tournament. It is on the bar boxes and it's handicapped. I played okay and got 2nd. I had a really hard time maintaining my focus. At one point, I even missed a straight in shot on the one ball with ball-in-hand...ouch! I'm not used to playing for 6 hours. I just drifted off after a while.

The handicapped events can be misleading. I didn't really play that well but got some good rolls. I have played better in tournaments and finished worse, and I have played worse and finished better. I guess that's the nature of nine-ball.

Anyways, I found out that Playtime is now running an 8-Ball tournament on Friday nights. It starts at 7 I believe. It is a race to 3, alternating break format.

Sounds like it is becoming quite popular. There's a lot of good players coming to play in this. First place paid out over 600 dollars last Friday. So go and check it out if you can. Maybe I'll see you.
